i dunno lol - i think the 650i just sucks for high FSB running - i got it at 4ghz like i said with minimal adjusting on my part...granted i've been using these boards (had 2) for over a year now...running rock solid stable as is but for my temps and inability to push the fsb more regardless of NB voltage or cooling

auto fsb voltage and 1.2375v in bios (volt mod raises the vcore by .03 but drops droop to zero)

thinking about getting one of the new Asus P45 boards or found a decent deal on a used P5K Deluxe

I was looking at getting that new Biostar P45... but really want to see more reviews and user experience

Its tough out there to pick a decent OC board and not feel like i'm being taken for $250 for some extra's i prolly won't use...

trying to not start another damned "what mobo should i buy thread"

i'm gonna start hunting for a TEC cooler soon

I have a 3.6Ghz G0. Keeping playing with these cause they are fun. Its funny how many apps dont support quad. Buddy went from a quad to 8400 and was complaining about Unraring stuff slowly. Winrar only uses multi core for encoding, not decoding. QuickPar doesn't support multicore either. Had a hard time finding any apps I use that actually take advantage of 4 cores. Yet for Winrar decoding the E8400 tears it up at 4.2 Ghz vs 3.6 on the quad since it's only using 1 core anyways.

So, yes, the quads are nice, but how many apps do you use really take advantage of 4 cores?

hey guys, got a e8400, got a few questions on stability checking:

    -Any specific settings for memtest86+?

-And after testing in memtest which prime test should I run? large ffts since memtest has tested the ram already?

another newbie question: is it silly to run a e8400 @ 3.6 (9x400) with c1e and eist on?

Still test with small FFT and Blend at least. That's what I do to ensure full stability.

Just placed it in its permanent home [read signature]. It is currently running at 4.0Ghz [9.5 x 421] on 1.20v; 28c at Idle / 48c at 100% full load.
Might try to kick it up a notch over the weekend, going to try 500FSB with an 8.5 multiplier.

Large FFTs tests the memory, so you definitely want to run Small FFTs now if you ran memtest and looped tests 5 and 8 for ram stability. Small FFTs will push the CPU and see if the overclock is stable. Running C1E and EIST overclocked may not work properly. I'm assuming you are air cooled. Try it and see if you board works properly with it.

I'm soo soo close to grabbing an E8400 for $185 after taxes at fry's - throw out the ECS 7050 board (or try to sell that thing for 20 bucks...) - pick up another mobo...damn...i sold my back up vid card...so...use the GTX... And see if I can get better clocks from that setup with coolertemps (using my now spare ninja...) hmmm - tough choices...or just buy a new motherboard and see how this chip does on that

there goes my "extra" money in my back account....

me thinks that since i'm buying to lame'o frys B&M I could make out on returning this stuff if I don't like it....

any suggestions on cheap cpu only WC for a Wolfie????

That has always been the case with core temp vid reading lower than CPUZ. It's really low vid! It's an awesome chip I bet. That should be able to run 4.2-4.3ghz stable with really low vcore.

Well after a few months not only did my E8400 require more volts but also my motherboard. Managed to get my system stable again @ 500x8 but needed to bump my cpu to a rather high 1.41 from 1.39 and also my northbridge from +0.125 to +0.325:

    Stepping Q744a:

Even though this chip needs loads of volts for 4GHZ, it seems to run fairly cool under the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and there are no issues with the core sensors. Ive seen loads of newer E8400's running with way less vcore but are reaching far higher temperatures! Seems to be that newer chips run hotter but need less vcore.

I am using a new beta bios that was sent to from Gigabyte for my board that fixes the DPC latency issue, my system has real low latency now, can run audio with a latency less than 1 and my system feels really snappy on the whole. Beta bios works fine with no bugs. Here is my latency now:

The Wolfdale runs hot if you under volt or over volt it.

Not to get sidetracked but if you're interested in VID and what it really means then head over here and read this post to learn some more:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1499

I'm working on adding Minimum and Maximum VID to RealTemp so one user isn't comparing his Minimum VID to another user's Maximum VID. CPUs contain two different VID values.

If you want to do some beta testing just download this file:
    http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip

Unzip it and copy the new RealTemp.exe into your previous RealTemp folder. Post some E8400 VID data with this new tool so maybe we can start making better comparisons.

Ever thought ya mobo is giving in ? Or maybe due to the lower latencies and increased performance level by the new bios requires you to pump more NB volts... NB voltage nothing to do with ya CPU mate...

Newer chips run hotter ? all a mix of batch, VID, Wafernr ... pure speculation there...

Good clocks, but I would replace that Freezer with something beefier... not all core readouts are correct... no matter what program you use... just for ya peace of mind...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Yeah, i think my mobo needs a lot of volts to run 500fsb performance level 7. Its not the new bios though, as it was the same with the previous official F12 bios. I know NB voltage is nothing to do with CPU i was just talking about system stability in general. Maybe i just didnt stress test it properly in the first place!!

Yeah that is pure speculation mate! Just a casual observation...

Cheers mate, can you add me to your O\C list please? LOL i was gonna try for 9x500, defo need a new cooler for that allthough the Freezer 7 is holding up pretty well, my temps seem pretty accurate TBH but i hear what your saying.

    Booted into windows at 5ghz....:

Well i did this pretty quickly, i was able to do a 1M run at 4.9ghz i got about 9.343secs at Case4....

But i thought i could do better but then got a error with the next run, and after that a couple more, but hey 5ghz wasnt too bad to get.

I think also being able to boot into window at 585FSB i think wided its overclocking at x9

oh btw i was using ICE water, big pot of ice and water with the lid on it so that it wouldnt melt so much. wrapped my tubing a crap load in paper towel and put down a lil bit of insulation of the chip socket and then covered with paper towel once again.

Need to figure out whats causing it to get errors at 5ghz.

my e8500 is having trouble hitting 5ghz

priming 4.25ghz right now though @ 1.376v (8.5x500). will update this post w/ pics once it hits 1 hour.

passing 20 min... means nothing just counting down. i could probably do a better mount on the cooler though... load is -19. i dont remember if i used thermal paste or not lol!

I doubt it's your mount bro. My E8500 does 4Ghz at 1.20v [BIOS setting], and 4.25Ghz at 1.30v [BIOS as well]. Seems to me that anything passed 4Ghz requires a boat load of vCore, and if yours is requiring 1.37v for 4.25Ghz, then you gonna have to juice the hell out of it to get it to boot at 5Ghz.
Unless you are just trying to see if you can hit 5ghz with it, I would say forget about it since it is just not worth it, at least not to me. The fact that mine needed .10v for a mere 250Mhz, when it only needed .025v from the VID [Core Temp and Real Temp showed the VID for my CPU at 1.175v] to overclock from 3.16Mhz to 4040Mhz. In my case, I'm extremely happy with the purchase and the performance gain from the OC; I'm getting some nice Super PI timings at this speed with my RAM running at 2000Mhz [without tweaking yet, set to 8-8-8-16-1T 1.95v]. Once I iron out some kinks in my config, it should be rock solid.

my remount resulted in -24c which is a bit better than before. im trying to get my 24/7 setting dialed in before i start benching more @ higher mhz. i dont want to just hit 5ghz, i want to bench @ that speed. excessive vcore is no issue to me. ive only had this cpu for about 4 hours now so i still have some fine tuning to do to drop volts a bit more. i just gotta quickly set it up for tomorrow.

do you think 1.55volts cpu is safe at 20*c??

Probably not, but i wasnt like hanging around in windows for long, i could probably lower the volts to about 1.495v , Im happy i broke 5ghz. Um water temp was -2 degrees
