Still not terrible. Remember, In Place small FFTs is 100% all 4 cores. in gaming and most other activities, you wont see those temps. In my PC its 10C less.

Do you guys use any application/software (like AI Suite, but something else) that stays on the Desktop reporting Clock Speeds, Multiplier, etc - CPU related information? I'm using RealTemp (System Bar) to monitor CPU Temperature & PC Probe to monitor Motherboard Temperature, Voltages & Fan Speeds. But I don't really care for AI Suite to keep mhz, speeds on the desktop.

Any Suggestion?

Yup, in Vista. Actually that OSD in Everest looks pretty good too. Should I abandon PC Probe as well, and just keep Everest & Real Temp?

Thats your choice. I use Everest, RealTemp and Coretemp (graphing feature is sweet). Mostly use RealTemp though just to check things out.

Going to order one to use in a Gigabyte P35. Board can do 550FSB without a hickup with a 45nm dual core so crossing my fingers for some nice 1:1 action.

Can anyone recommend batches that have "more chances" of a good clocker? I can have the store choose a batch, but iirc, the VID on the box is always printed 1.25V MAX and a default for that kind of CPU. No way to tell what VID until you shove it in the board

I'm coming from an E6420/2GB PC2-5400/P5W DH Deluxe and upgraded to a Q9450/4GB PC2-8000/P5Q Deluxe (P45).

This is all at Stock (8X334, 2667MHz), will be OC'ing this weekend, but wanted to compare Stock vs. OC performance.

I'm not impressed.
Sure, the system is flying in routine, regular operations like multi-tasking, boot up, opening & closing programs, etc. However, the true, labor intensive work is not showing big difference from my E6420.

For eg:- Did a video encode job last night. MKV -> WMV-HD (VC-1) 1080p (1920 X 1080) @ 11 mbps 2-Pass VBR / 768k 5.1 WMA Pro. Took about the same time it took before. I thought the SSE4.1, 12mb Cache & 4 Cores would make a noticeable difference. It didn't.

Un-raring an 8GB Archive took the same time as well.

The only difference was that during these processes, the system was more free & loose for me to do other things, hence multi-tasking galore - whereas before the system would practically render useless while doing these things.

Still, I was looking for more speed. Multi-tasking alone was neither the purpose for the upgrade, nor worth the money. So for my tasks & usage, at stock I'm definately disappointed.

I hope to OC it to at least 3.4 - 3.6, which gives me a good 1000Mhz over stock, and will take the Memory over stock as well. Hopefully I'll get better results then. Just wanted to put this out there, especially for video encoders because I know a lot of us went for the SSE4/12mb benefit in this chip over the much cheaper Q6600.

As I'm about to lap my cpu cooler and cpu I'm wondering if I should lap the new coolers as well.
From what I have read online these coolers have a copper base and it is nickel coated.

What do you guys think? Should I lap the new coolers?

Has any one on here had any luck over clocking the 9450 with a GA-EX38-DQ6. I seem to be habing issues with it. I just bought the chip like 3 weeks go and I have had it to 445 FSB but, after that my board wouldn't stay stable. I'm thinking it's the motherboard. Thank's for your help any one. I almost read all of thses post but, wow alot of them..

You did run this test @ stock 2666 MHZ right? Was the previous system stock clocked as well? Considering you were on an 4mb cache chip, going up 8mb in cache and 500 or so MHz in speed, you won't see an incredible noticeable difference. Now try running that test @ 3.6GHz which your E6420 probably couldn't do on the P5W DH, then you'll see the improvement. Also consider that the 975X chipset is probably still faster @ stock than any chipset released since. Too bad the chip has trouble with that board though. I think you've not enjoyed the potential of your purchase yet until you oveclock it. Most intel cpus perform with 10-15% of each other @ stock clocks.

You're 100% bang on target. Believe it or not, I just had an identical exchange with someone else in the P5Q thread ... who's post resonated exactly what you just said. And I agree with you 100%.

Yes, this is all @ Stock. My E6420 was OC'd to 2.8GHz at which my board hit a wall (360 X 8), possibly due to my PC2-5400 RAM and the P5W 975X chipset. So you guys are absolutely right - I'm really comparing an 8mb increase in Cache, and that's about it! That & the better RAM is resulting in overall system boost, multi-tasking, but not actual result in CPU-Intensive processes.

I really should re-phrase the word "disappointment" because it's truly not a just comparison. And I really can't wait to overclock, which I will commence tomorrow. I think at 3.0GHz+ I'll begin to see the difference I paid for.

Hi, I've got a question. I'm running the Large FFT test in prime95 for my Q9450 (3.2Ghz) but it keeps freezing... after 11 hours, and then 5 hours after bumping up the voltage. None of the cores seem to fail according to the logs, but the computer freezes. Does anyone know why and what I should adjust? I've got a 780i motherboard, 2gb ram, TRUE120 aircooling. Thanks in advance. Also, I've got bad vdroop and I can't get the pencil mod to work. I drew couple lines over the resistors exactly as shown in the picture. 2B pencil, but got 1.26875 in BIOS, 1.232 in CPU-Z

Other info: Previously I was able to run prime95 Large FFTs for 16 hours stable @ 1.26875 until I stopped it, recently it's been freezing.

EDIT: I think I might have found the problem. My RAM was bugging out in Memtest86+, so I fixed that and am retesting prime95.

Addition The highest I have now got it is 460Mhz and I hit a wall on the board.. Ithink they need to get off their asses and make a better bios i what it is.
