Can you all please try to confirm that everything = default but vNB=1.3V will lead to not booting ?

    Thanks.

I've having problems booting at 1.12v NB, never mind 1.3v.

I'm going to try the 0702 BIOS.

Where can I get more information on PL? I'm not clear about PL and what it really is.

I second that... is there like a generic guide to OC with p45 mobo, I feel like I don't understand half of what is being said here (that's what happens if you fell out of the loop for a year )

On my board with 4gb Mushkin ram I get these results with the Qx9650 :

400FSB and Ram at 800Mhz -- Bios sets 13 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 9 (8 doesn't post)

400FSB and Ram at 1003Mhz -- Bios sets 10 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 7

400FSB and Ram at 1066Mhz -- Bios sets 9 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 7

450FSB and Ram at 900Mhz -- Bios sets 13 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 10 (OCCT stable)

450FSB and Ram at 1081Mhz -- Bios sets 10 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 8 (OCCT stable)

500FSB and 1000Mhz ram is perf level 10 (OCCT Stable)

500FSB and 1200mhz ram is Perf level 8 (OCCT Stable)

I have to admit I never went over 1.5NB voltage to test, I tried a quick boot with 1.7Nb voltage but whenever I set a lower PL value it doesn't post or is very unstable in Windows... Think P45 is a bit crippled here over P35/X38/X48
but makes up for it with heavy and easy FSB clocks...

PL is performance level : it's ram related, I'm no technical geek but it increases overal bandwith and lowers latency... overal with this board if you can run a divider (so not 1:1) do it... you are rewarded with a lower PL which brings more performance... I've summed up my findings in the above post with early tests on which PL level to expect... I don't run weird FSB ranges I only do 400 - 450 and 500

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

I haven't been out of the loop for a year and I still don't understand half of what is being said here ... primarily due to the mammoth change in BIOS, coming from the P5W DH bios, which was essentially 2 years old. The BIOS on the P45 has changed so tremendously, I'm basically accumulating bits & pieces of information from here & there. We definately need a new, P45 updated OC Guide.

Anyhow, Lee, thanks for the info on PL.

lol, what a coincidence, I'm coming off p5w too... it was a good board but it's showing its age p5q seems to be a very worthy successor, for the price, of course

Totally Awesome!!! Can't believe you hit the magic 4.0Ghz (500X8)!! That is really, really promising. Do we have the same memory kit? (OCZ Platinum Edition 4GB (2X2GB) PC2-8000).

Would that 1.4v hurt the CPU? It's higher then it's rated 1.3v

Now - I need to get my system to where you're at - And get it Prime Stable!!

Thanks, but all these are pretty old and none of them is p45 specific Put it another way - I've already know how to oc in general, or how to oc conroe on a 975 board (p5w specifically). Now, I'm moving on to wofldale and this board and it's more complicated - more options, etc, so I would like to know what does what. Your links are helpful in general but not with this board, unfortunately.

How much of an overclock are you looking to get? Also, what currently are you using for cooling?

As for other solutions there are many, but it depends on how much you want to spend. And also if your looking for 24/7 overclocks, or temporary extreme benching overclocks.

Yeah we've the same kit. It should do 1040mhz without tweaking the sub-timings.

Nah 1.4v won't hurt the CPU. It drops considerably under load.

And Prime95 stable can wait til the w-end. I alreay know this chip is 8 hours stable at 3.8ghz on P35

Well your PL question wouldve been answered by the RAM Timings article. Not to mention P45 just came out and there probably arent detailed guides yet for the people who dont want to do it on their own.

Also, many of the terms apply to P45 even if the article refers to P4's (like EIST/C1E/ram timings/etc). So why not just figure it out yourself? Thats part of the joy of overclocking, then when you get your next mobo, you will understand it all better (and maybe wont need a guide).
