There were no such claims ever made

The 4870 should give the 9800GTX a run for its money and the 4850 will do the same with the 8800GT Most of the 4850 naysayers would start a big debate if I mentioned 55nm and DX10.1, so, let's wait for actual reviews before making claims of lack of competition from ATI.

    Hi Jymmiz

Can you run two 3dmark2006 feature Tests: FillRate Single Texturing and FillRate Multi-Texturing?

    Best regards

Hmm would like to see how these cards in crossfire compare to a single 9800GX2.

Doesn't GPU-Z just draw information from a pre-made database, and not actually retrieve any information from the card itself, aside from maybe the clocks?

    got a few questions

    Does running x-fire on 2x 8x PCI-E lanes matter?

Are you limited in certain things? like how in SLi you can't run multiple screens.

Are there computability issues with popular games? I tend to play all valve/steam games, UT series, Supreme commander, of course crysis.

I'm considering going two of these to a single GTX280, biggest problem I have is the slight problems I had with my X1950XT when I went red for a while.

You are correct that no one on this thread has made this claim, however if you read various threads across the web based on the specs the assumption was that they would be twice as fast as their current counter parts. I purchased 2 of the 3870's and I am running them in CF and I am trying to figure out whether I should take them back and get the new 4850/4870 instead. Since there are not any comparison tests yet, I have to speculate on the performance differences between the new cards and the current cards. I have until the end of the month so I still have plenty of time assuming there are no shortages of the cards.

Overclocking section has some entries in it now, as well as a GPU-Z shot. also the volt mod is done and works. WOOT !! (link in third post or go to the v-mod section to see it.)

I just need some software to oc beyond the 700 ceiling in CCC. it is begging for more clocks.

Can you try reinstalling crysis and the bench to get very high working? Id like to see how it does on very high 1920x1200. Trying to decide if I should order a pair of them or go with a 4870 or GTX-260.

I saw you got the voltmod done. Can you overclock with Rivatuner? Anyway to edit the BIOS with new clocks, then flash the card?

I have fought it to the death. I work all week but I may try again one evening. It isn't a matter of re-installing , done that twice i seem to have a glitch where the in game runs fine but the tool just starts the game. fine in xp this is only in vista.

No promises I'm mad at it right now.

Yeah, thats the same that happened for me. Ive seen a few glitches here and there, like in the editor, sometimes when I drop in, it says Im outside the area and kills me. Whats weird, is my friend tried the benchmark, and it flashes red and sounds like he is dying, during the fly through loop .

Only thing I did besides reinstall everything was a defrag. Comes to luck I guess.

Of course, I've tried all the usual stuff RBE110 opens, mods and saves files, then winflash will say it is ok. the file when opened by RBE110 shows it is modded. but they have no affect on clockspeed. i spent no less than 6 hours trying different combinations of clocks, the only difference is if you touch the voltage settings at all it drops .05v off of loaded clocks, making once stable clocks unstable.

I will send bios dumps etc to anyone if they think they can get riva working.

almost forgot.. tried 3870x2 and a 4850...... no go. gave it three trys..lol , It would not install drivers for the pci to pci bus. no crossfire option in bios etc. not compatible with these drives any way. I guess it is possible later but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I was just going to ask if there was anyway to get a 3870 to xfire with one. Guess not. I want to order one so bad, but have to wait and cancel an order tomorrow first.

Anyone order one from buy.com yet? It says they are in stock and ships in 1-2 days.

One last request, can you disable two cores, and run some benchies so those of use with dual cores can compare? With my 24/7 settings (3.8 cpu, 800/2304 stock 3870) I get 11674 in 3d06. With cpu at 4.275 and card at 850/2604 I get 12700.

What is the diameter measured between the mounting holes ?
I want to know if a HR-03 would fit this card .

It is the same as the 3850's. 2.10" hole spread

An 8800GT @ 700|2000 will beat this card under Vista x64 @ SM2 in 06 and will get beaten @ SM3. The old one I tried did 5.8k in 2 and 5.5k in 3 under Vista x64. @ 746|2000 the scores moved to 6.3 and 5.8 respectively. That was on older drivers though.

Overclocked and even stock the HD 4850 looks to very solid at SM3.

Can you tell us what driver version you're using?

Just a screengrab of the CCC's Information Center / Graphics Software screen would be good enough.

If all bets are off, it's the 8.6 Beta and 3DMark (06 at least) is going to fly past that score when something official comes.

I am only using the disc that came with the card it's cat 8.5 but the driver is a newer rev. check my GPU-Z screens for the 3d driver info. other drivers do not recognize the card yet. 8.6 official should give a boost, but you never know for sure.

Errr... the 8.6 Beta actually calls up as 8.5!

I'm guessing it's the same version. GPU-Z detects ati2mtag, that's not present in Vista anymore and isn't the real driver too (just an interface AFAIK)

It might have inherited some of 8.4's 3DMark 06 bugs so scores should be higher. I know for sure that current drivers of GT200 and RV770 bork 3DMark- at least a little. With ALL that shader power something has to pop out

Would you be able to provide measurements of the card in comparison to a 3850 and/or 3870? I'm assuming they are the same length...

Also, might you be able to measure the core die?

    Thanks!

i think 4850 will edge out 8800gt wrt performance in that price segment, based on the few tidbits of benching info provided so far, but im all ears for more info.

The only purpose of my posting this is show that Vista 64-bit Crysis does work!

Using XP, jimmyz got the following Crysis score:

    DX9 1680x1050 AA=4x, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~ Overall Average FPS: 20.045

When you look at this first image try not to laugh! This is an example of what I get testing Crysis on Vista 64-bit using DX10.

It wasn't until recently that I found a work around to my problem. In this second image I'm using DX9. What an improvement that makes.

You can imagine that I was really disappointed with my SLI setup until I used DX9. I don't know if this is a driver problem or maybe DX10.

*jimmyz* Have you tried the work around that I described over at TCP? Also, what monitor do you use?

It took me a long time to get Crysis to work with my Vista 64. I found that solution that I described doing a Google search.

PM me if you want to compare how our Vista 64 systems are configured.
