I have had many unstable overclocks (with many different motherboards and CPU) pass a Super PI.

I have found that with P5B, you need to bench with each overclock setting. More is not always better. Also, At afferent setting, one thing may increase in a bench and another area may go down. This board can give you dam good performance. But, you need to find it. Not just crank every setting to the max. You need to bench, bench and more bench with each setting change. I have read about the reasons for this and have posted links several times. I think all mainbord/ CPU/ memory conbos, new or old, are like this.

I have seen very few benchmark results in the many pages of this thread. Mostly I see unstable OC screens that would never get you through a game or run windows without a quick crash. Not all P5B threads on the net are like that. I have seen many thing written on the net about OPTIMUM OCs OF A P5B.

I believe you can find setting with this board that perform as well or better than a P35 +, But there are vDroops, Memory holes, Strap oddities etc that must e tweaked around.

Hey guys, im wondering why my P5B Dlx allways sets it Vcore to auto when ever i reboot ? Its kinda scary to turn my pc on and find that its shooting 1.5v thru my poor E8500 (when the SS isn't on :P). It only happends since the bios update and i can't go back as i lose support for my cpu.

Anyone else having the same problem ?

Same problem here. Just reboot, set the vcore and save and don't go into bios anymore. It's working fine for me.

Ive flashed my bios via Asus update windows utility from a file. It first erased the bios the flashed. But it got and error when verifying bios. So now I cant boot. The screen is blank no signal.
Tried the crashfree bios recover via the support cd. But no luck. Nothing happends.
Can it be fixed or is my mobo dead?

I don't know why they have Asus update. It has something called "crash free 3" But often it does not work.

I've heard cases where the BIOS update went bad and the fix was to remove the bat for a long while and then it worked.

I've never had any issues with any of my ASUS Intel based boards and I've updated the BIOS several times through windows, flash drives and 100% success at all times, although I must say that I've never tried beta drivers, only official posted by ASUS

You only need it to fail once. If it happens, you should not re-boot out of windows. Maybe contact Asus tec support. I had it happen. Asus update failed during the flash. And, every time I tried to re-flash. I received an error. I have read that there is a way to flash with the Windows Command Prompt.

I use the DOS program. But, EZ Flash is good too.

Hey guys, I am having a bit of a problem with the p5b deluxe.

My friend has been having problems with his comp crashing when playing games(approx 5months), due to some video error, so he decided to reformat (xp 32bit). Now he can't get it to even post. After powering up it shuts off after 2-3 seconds then tries to power up again, and keeps on doing this vicious cycle.

    Specs:
    intel qx6700
EG701AX-VE(W)SFMA V2.0, or 600 Watt Enermax power supply
    Corsair Memory 2 GB TWIN 2 X 2048-6400 DDR2 SDRAM
    Crucial Ballistix Memory 2GB (1GBx2) Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400
SATA 75GB 10,000 Rpm Western Digital Raptor Drive
SATA 500 GB Western Digital 7,200 Rpm drive
    nvidia 7950gt

I tried switching out the PSU with another, and still encounter same problem.
reconnected wires & double-checked their connections
    Cleared CMOS, to no avail.
Tried booting with only 1dimm of RAM (tried each of the four)
    tried to booting it barebones.

I read in the first few pages of this thread (sorry i couldnt read through all 100 incase this problem already was solved a diff way) that it was a RAM issue. As trying all 4 sticks that worked for a few months, would it also be this case, maybe try lesser volt ram?

I am stumped as i tried everything i could think of, maybe just the board went bad?

    Thanks

    Dear skeelz.
This may be a dumb question, but are you sure you bios ver. supports your CPU?

Chuckbam: I am unsure if the bios can support the cpu, I can only assume that it does as it was working for my friend for a few months. Only after the reformat, did it stop working

I ask, because I had that problem with a refurb board. I needed to find an older CPU to flash it.

Do you have a bios before 1219?

Go into the bios and set to default. Re-boot, go back into the bios and set you settings.

You can try 1:1 if that works with your cpu x8

    With
    my motherboard a setting of Vcore 1.4375v = 1.35 ~ 1.39v

You need to do that default thing again. Strange, I have not had the 1x problem for over a year. I would read if you should flash to a old bios and flash again w/ the new one.

CrossFire worth it on P5B Deluxe

I'm thinking going CF path vs Single with the new HD4850

I know CF should work on the mobo , generally speaking

What bugs me is : IS IT WORTH IT or x4 + x16 gives a too low perf. boost .

btw , 3dmark06 on XP32 , gives me double of Vista32 ( different partition same raid array) . I'm gonna go Vista64 soon , but none the less WTF ?

Personally I don't think it'd be worth it, but if you think it may improve something that you might need? Why not?

I remember long ago about the difference between 8x8 vs 16x4 which was 975X vs P965 and it wasn't a world of difference but it was slightly noticeable.

Though I'd say that it'd be a much better idea to go with one of those video cards that have two GPUs, like the 9800GX2 or whatever ATI has that's similar to it.

2 VCs? nah, I don't think so. For that? Get the P45 or an X48.

The Reasoning for 2 Video Cards is simple: What you don't use you lose i.e with hardware upgrade cost and frequency , I'd better buy what I need and use now, and not an overkill now.

So 1 ATI now and 2nd later, for less money mind you, makes a lot of sense to me. Even though simply replacing the video card is an option too, but you would be buying a 1st Tier card and not older 2nd/3rd .

Anyway , reading the latest manual , ASUS is talking about "ATI Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire " ,ATI X850 , and which is supported under XP 32/64 only and the pictures show the outdated external cables design.

So I'm gonna ask ASUS support what exactly is going on
