Hi Perkam, can you lock the thread for 24 hours? We'll not have any new info in that space of time.

Ok, I'll just come out and say it, OBR, you're not that smart

    If I could I would

But people really need to get over the OBR thing. It'll come when it does. OBR gave us a little tease and frankly, I can say with certainty that even the XIPs and XLs are EXTREMELY tight lipped about this stuff, so I'm not too surprised with OBR's decision, as AMD calling him is perfectly plausible considering the amount of secrecy over the subject.

You can't blame OBR for being inexperienced with this kind of thing, you need quite a bit of restraint to stop you from posting GTX 280 SLI benchies. You can ask Kingpin about that when the cards release and Futuremark servers go down the drain

Sounds like the 4000 series are going to be the new golden boys of GPGPU applications. It would be nice if AMD hit the ground running with this release.
    That's the biz, sweetheart.

I agree, just a bit miffed at the situation...OBR, well, I could care less what he does. Just seems strange to have a jump in traffic at the same time that spammers are posting, when they haven't been able to in the last few days.

Don't get me wrong, I do not blame OBR, but his timing is very poor!

Anyway, as a lesson to others, please don't post "hints" or "teases", just post numbers and nothing else.

LOL @ everyone who believed OBR was REALLY going to post anything.

    Are we there yet?

Only with Nehalem, as 3DMark06 is now a CPU bound bench

Thats without the DDR taking effect and making it 3.6GHz effective.

    Let's wait and see

The only concern there is the drivers...which need time to mature, especially for Nvidia's new arch. ATI will try to cripple its performance early on and release better drivers once the 9900s hit the market.

i knew that, its still slow for gddr5 (goes up to 2,25ghz), i expected more than the lowest bin gddr5, maybe we see higher clocks in the X2 version.

That's still the lowest GDDR5 bin.

It's probably not available yet, but GDDR5 is supposed to go up to 4.5-5GHz.

As someone else mentioned, likely the supply of higher bins is not so great yet and also the cost would be higher if they used faster modules. There probably isn't much of a need for more bandwidth anyway, so it would just be a waste. The 4870 will still have more bandwidth than the GTX 260 (115.2 GB/s vs. 112.0 GB/s).

A 4850 overclocked with a GDDR5 would be interesting.

This is what i mean - if the 4850 and 4870 are using the same core, with the same number of SP's, is the memory bandwidth of the GDDR5 alone going to increase performance of the 4870 much above the 4850? Isn't that like comparing a 512mb current card to a 1gb or 2gb version (i believe there are 1 or 2 kicking around), whenever you see benches on those huge memory cards there is virtually no performance gain with the extra bandwidth, even at high resolutions.

Hmm, nothing sounds like anything to me personally so far, not until the launch day reviews! No harm in some speculation i guess.

    Nah.
That "1800m" is DDR-1800 (900MHz). But since GDDR5 is quad data rate 900MHz GDDR5 acts effectively as DDR-3600.
You were not supposed to see this.

In simple words if there is a need, it will be used. If it does not have, likely can not be used.

I refuse to participate in any debate with creationists because doing so would give them the "oxygen of respectability" that they want.
Creationists don't mind being beaten in an argument. What matters to them is that I give them recognition by bothering to argue with them in public.

I'm envious of you guys that are clearly "in the know."

I'm sure everyone who this includes has done loads of work on their part to earn that right... Reviewing products, offering insight to the vendors, etc. Just wish I had the money and connections to get into that stuff myself haha. In any case, I have a feeling we'll probably get things leaking out more and more as the date draws near... With all the cards Nvidia and ATI will likely throw around for benching/reviews/teasers... Someone is bound to break NDA eventually.

Extra bandwith will not be superfluous especially on a high resolutions.

i read the last few pages of this thread and almost puked. honestly some people make me SICK. ORB was going to give us the privilege of seeing some more info on it but re thought things a decided to play it safe. and then many people come and flame the crap out of him for not showing anything???? WTF??????? all of you people saying that ORB should get banned or ORB should die need to GET A GRIP. it's ONLY a freaking Video card!!!!! and we will have reviews shortly. the man tries to do us a favor and it does not work out so we spit in his face????

my gosh people. some people need to calm the heck down. so what if we have to wait another week or 2 to see some numbers on a MIDRANGE AMD card?? that's worse than crying of split milk. i am not impressed at all.

i did not get all mad because of a Video card i got mad at issues that really matter in the world, like treatment of human beings for example?

is hatting man because he can't deliver on a FAVOR right?

and some of those posts about trying to get him banned? some people have obviously not been here long enough to know what he contributes to the forum. especially when it comes to launches and reviews. sure some things he says can be a bit biased but he is one of our only sources of pre launch info. and i honestly can't see him posting any leaking info after the responses he got.
