Got some Mushkin PC8000 Redline going, dead cheap for a 4gb at 80 euro's and they do 1066Mhz at 1.92volts even with an E8400/8500 your current ram will cripple your FSB attempts... and running 1:1 is not always the fastest option (powerlevel related)

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

I know dude, this is more like my final attempts to pull some more performance out of this "old timer" before I do the unavoidable upgrade. I'm thinking to buy some new memory first and see if my CPU will keep going, if needed upgrade to 45nm. My RF won't be going anywhere

lol if you want to sit in a room at 100F then buy all means I will share my secret with you.

Looking at your hardware you have a nice fat wallet so this should not be to hard to achive.
Take 88 bucks and go to wal-mart and grab a AIR CONDITIONER, now not only will you be nice and cool so will all that hardware

On a serious note tho I would'nt want my chip running that high 24/7, everyone is different. Regardless on how long you plan to keep it having your cpu hot enough to cook your breakfast on is a problem in my book.
Oh and btw my ambiant air ( wich everyone was so quick to point out ) is 72F

    Kekeke!!!

I wish I could have ambient at 72(c) 24/7. Yesterday, it was 82 in here with the A/C on full. Funny, though: system temps increase by only 5(c) with a 10(c) difference.

    I hate overclocking in Florida.

Our AC was down for two weeks, when the AC guy came back turns out our central air was still under warranty So we opted to pay alittle extra for a new model, its about 12,000BTU's more than we need so it gets very cold in our house very fast if I so choose.
But in good old Canada we dont get crazy hot like in Florida all tho it is a muggy 29c here today with alot of humidity.

I don't think I have seen much 12000 read speed in Everest(if at all). In fact most recently the highest I have seen stable is the mid 10,000. I think Zucker at 530 or so FSB had 11000 in write and copy but read was less. I have a 780i board can get 12000 linked/sync on DDR2 4-3-3 with mid 400FSB, but no where close on Maximus, only about 11000 with same RAM. PL is the key, and either real high FSB and RAM speed, or PL and moderate FSB speed and super super tight timings 4-3-3, 3-3-3.

I see your one of those ppl that actually read the posts
lol that was a quad core running @ 3.8GHz plus the NB and a 8800 on 1 swiftech 220 rad, with ambiant air 25c. The chip lives but it was sold shortly after that. Hard to beat the bandwidth of a wolfdale.

once and a while temps like that are ok , I will totally agree with that.
But for 24/7 my personal opinion is its way to high.

    Hey everyone,

I need a little advice. System is in sig...

I haven't flashed to a Rampage bios, yet. I didn't have the time to start stabilizing the rig, upto now
Which bios for the Rampage seems to yield the best results for a Q6600 G0? I'm not really that much into the highest FSB, The northbridge is too hot for that.
I might want to do something about that later.
With the current bios, Maximus 907, there's a long time that passes before the boot sequence gets past the IDE detection. Is there a Rampage bios specifically that might fix this?

    Cheers and tx

You will find that Rampage bios will allow faster boot time and overall better performance than Maximus.
I have tested 308, 401 and 403 with a Q6600, you will get slightly better bandwidth with 308 but honestly without a benchmark you wont see or feel any difference, 403 bios is very stable I would flash to that

HDPC: The only suggestion I can think of from the given template is that you can increase the CPU PLL Voltage to 1.56 ~ 1.60 to see if that helps.
If that doesn't help, increase the NB Voltage from 1.55 to 1.59.
400*9 should be faily easy to acheive becouse it's neither a high CPU clock speed OC nor high FSB OC. You shouldn't need more volts than what I suggested and the other ones you've already set.
    Everything else looks fairly relaxed.

I agrees with Grnfinger. 0308 is just slightly faster than 0403 under Everest benchmarks but at the cost of instability and compatibility for some people. I have been getting many DET RAM hang error and can't get rams to OC near 1200mhz prior to 0403 RF bioses. After I flashed to RF0403, there is no more werid DET RAM hang error for me and 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers in A2/B2 slots are able to OC up to 1240mhz with only 2.14 Vdimm in bios.

OK, who's doing watercooling on their Maximus?

I'm thinking I'd like to go a bit higher with my OC, maybe 3.5Ghz or so, and have never had a water cooling solution in this case.

Case is a Lian Li PC75, I can take pictures if people forget what this old girl looks like

I'm thinking I might be able to fit a Mustang heater core above the PSU with some fans on the bottom of it, and then put two 80mm's in the back (already spots there for them) to direct the hot air out.

I only plan on WC'ing the CPU, I don't game a lot, so OC'ing my video card, well, no real point.

Windows: Windows 7 Pro x64 for the odd game.

Hehe. I was looking back through posts to see if anyone had actually had 12000 read in Everest memory and I saw your pic so I had to give you a hard time.

I water cool a SE and regular version. For 3.5 you could probably get by cheaper with a high end air cooler, but if you want water cooling go for it. Heater cores tend to be fairly thick and have more air flow head loss typically needing a bit higher flow fans which increase noise. At the same time their surface area kind of balances it out. Finding conversion pieces for heater core inlet/outlet tubing is kind of troublesome as well. Show us a pic if you want or ask in the water cooling section.

    Case currently looks like this:

It currently has four internal 80mm fans, 2 at the rear and two at the front, all running full-bore. They are actually the ones that originally came with the case!

Looks like you have room up top for the rad. I'd seriously consider adding a fan over the NB/Power heatsink if you go water as well.

haven't been here in quite some time... just wondering if anybody has hit the 4.0 (Q6600) mark with stability? i'll post up the same old 3.915 that i've had for awhile but never seems to make it to the main page lol.

also, what's up with the rampage bios mod? can anybody point me in the right direction to the upgrades it provides? thanks!!

Well, the board came with that little blower fan that's supposed to mount near the back in the case of water cooling.........
