Yea thanks for the express. No hardcore..just normal water. By the way I got myself another good wafer. Either one gonna end up in ebay or sale section. By the time I put some screenie next month my rigs has become quite obsolete.

    I guess P5E-VM is it...
Why does the P5E-VM have an advantage over other boards? Is the G35 really that differernt from P35?

My guess would be something to do with how the BIOS is setup.... that or how it is electrically that might make 45nm run better.

I'm gonna have issues with modding the NB cooling, as I have no experience with that whatsoever...
I'm also worried about the 4-pin CPU connector.

I remember that after getting this board I vowed NEVER to get another mATX board... especially not another ASUS one, and especially not another one with the VM suffix.

I believe the G35 is just the m-atx version of a p35. I think the board does well because it was the last developed board based on that chipset. Its essentally a G33 with upgraded onboard video. Since there are no gtl settings available on the board I believe who ever engineered the bios and board included the auto gtl adjust values for 45nm quads which maybe allows it to pass the normal walls we see on other boards.

Quick Question Guys: I got all my Hardware in (ASUS P5K-E/Wifi-AP, Q9450, 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 PC2-8000 1000Mhz) yesterday. I ordered a 40mm fan for the Northbridge and some other case fans that will come in today. So i'll be setting things up today.

First thing: Should I attempt OC from the get go - or run the system on stock for a few?
Secondly, Back on the P5W/E6420 setup, I was advised to set my divider to 1:1 ... do I have to do that to OC the Q9450 as well? If yes - how do I do that?

    Thanks!

Install Windows on stock settings. The last thing you want is a potentially unstable OC borking your OS install. After that, go for it.

Setting a FSB: DRAM 1:1 divider is not necessary. Some boards prefer this, others do not - you'll have to learn what gives you the best results on your own board.

Thanks! Will definately install Vista on Stock. Perhaps even finish all other software/driver installations - once everything is set - I'll go for it!

I guess I'll check out more info on the divider and stuff in the P5K-E/Wifi-AP official thread.

    Thanks again!

You could do what I'm planning on doing... Build a BARTPE bootcd of windows with Prime and other tools on it... Get a good stable OC, then install windows.

    EJT,

What is the batch info on that chip; also is the chip an OEM or retail boxed? I've had 3 OEM 9450's prior to the retail chips I have now that displayed the same heat issues stock/overclocked on air and water. I'm curious to see if your chip might have come from the same batch as my last chips.

    Thanks,

    Frankie

Those temp readings must be from using the coretemp program and not the realtemp one. Subtract around 10'c from that. Core temp has the tjmax @ 105'c when its suppose to be 95'c. Your temps look similar to mine using core temp if you reference link in sig.

Nope, those are using Real Temp 2.60. Seems to run right around 50C with FAH running and the fans on my LC running at their slowest speed. My ambient Room temp is probably about 30C in the case. Also, unless your WC is the compact one I'm guessing your CPU cooler is not the one with the pump on it. I'm guessing that has something to do with my temps, plus I didn't lap my CPU or do any fine tuning to the CPU cooler either.

I'm using the same cooling as you, but I changed my fans to a higher cfm. Your temps are somewhat high but considering your ambient and water can only be as cool as the ambient temp they're fine.

On which motherboard are refering the P5E-VM HDMI? If so I used an open bench for those extreme FSB. The board doesn't require high volts for 450FSB so it's fine without a fine.

Well I've agreed the sale of my Maximus Formula, and will be getting rid as soon as I've got my hands on another IP35 Pro to tide me over til P45.

If the chip clocks to the same levels as my other IP35 Pro, then I'll be chuffed, cos I've just wasted a week of my life trying to get this board to do what its so-called little brother can do easily.

Well, if you can live with 45C NB, then NB cooling is not needed.

But if you don't want to live with that, get Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II for the NB.

Voltage modding the NB is recommended if you want to see over 525MHz screened, but it's not required to hit 500MHz stable. And yes, I really mean 500MHz stable on this chip.

Hmm... guess I'm the only one to dare try that so far.

And I'm still regretting selling a golden P5E-VM HDMI that could do 450MHz all at the lowest voltages possible. (and 500MHz stable at 1.51v NB, while leaving everything else at their lowest values still) If you can find a Q9450 with VID of 1.100v or 1.00v, there's a good chance you can hit 4GHz at around 1.32v to 1.42v. My chip took 1.47v to be stable...

OK, different batch, but for your reference, the 3 dogs I had came from L806AXXX. Again all of these chips displayed the same issues you're experiencing. Some are saying the sensors on the Q9450 are faulty. Take that with a grain of salt. I still don't recommend trying to push these chips even under water with these wacked out temps.

Is there something wrong with 45C NB? My M2NPV-VM NB is at 43C, not OC'd at all with an open case.

Well, looks like I'm getting the HDMI, as it's cheap and awesome...

It will cost more, but I picked up mine from Fry's. If you have one near you and can afford the time & money, I'd grab 2 or 3. I picked up two and will try 'em both to get 500FSB with good volts. If they don't I'll take em back and try another. So far I'e got one that tops out at 498FSB with the northbridge maxed. Holding on to it till I get one better. Yes I know this is a dirty game but heck someone else gets to buy the pretested board for 10-15% less.
