    XSPC res top qc issues

I bought 3 of these and wow I've never seen such terrible workmanship in my life. None of the 3 are the same size and one is cut so badly the bottom of the res contacts the top of my mpc355. I shut it down but it already killed the pump. Anyone else have issues with xspc? They've lost me as a customer for sure.

I guess it quality control problem. Had some problem though when mounting the top because it has a spiral shape inside.End up mounting the top 2 times because it touch the side of the impeller.

Mine wasn't hitting the side but was hitting the top of the impeller.

I didn't have any impeller impact issues with the XSPC tops, but I did on a couple of others at high flow conditions. All of the tops except the stock top and OClabs top do not have pegs to align the top for you, so to do it right you shoul manually looked down the inlet hole before installing the barb and lined up the top with the impeller inlet hole.

If it's truely installed centered and impacting, RMA it...that's the best way to give any QC department feedback. My only trouble was with the threading on the res top cap, but that wasn't apparent in the dual bay respump, so I assumed it was more of a fluke.

I would just double check with the inlet barb off, that just before snugging the bolts all the way down that you align the top to the impeller. This probably helps ensure the best performance too.

The machining quality on my xspc top is horrid as well. The threads were so bad that I had to retap it myself just to get plain old D-tek G1/4 barbs to thread in.

I think they may be done en-mass on a manual machine, I saw stuff similar to this coming out of the shop next door before they upgraded to CNC machines. It simply takes too long to be perfect when you are machining manually, and need to get a load of parts done.

    Well just an update.

XSPC agreed to send me 2 replacements. I sent them a copy of the invoice and was very clear about which product I had an issue with. 2 weeks goes by as they don't have any in stock and I get a package delivered.

First off they put my address down wrong on 2 different packages. I double checked that I had typed my address in correctly and I had. So I had to call DHL and get them to correct it. They had to go and pick up the boxes where they had delivered them and bring them to me.

Second I open up the boxes and they sent the wrong product. They sent me 2 tops but not the restops I ordered.

I sent another email to them and cc'ed it John over at jabtech where I bought them from. John has been great through this whole process and sent me 2 replacement tops because the issue was just dragging out too far.

    The end result.

I still haven't received an email back from the folks at XSPC.
John was great and I thank him for all that he did for me.
My system is now leak testing as I type this and it seems all is good.
I must say customer service at XSPC is a joke and I will never buy another product from them again.

XSPC didn't email back? I asked them a question today and I had an answer within the hour.

I just ordered an xspc top. It should be here tomorrow. I really hope I don't have any issues with them Is it just the res tops that people are having problems with or is it the regular pump tops too?

For me it was the restops but the reg. top looks to be the same without the res. I hope yours are good. I'm just happy to have 3 working ones now.

I had a problem with my XSPC top (not res top) that I ordered a few months ago. One of the threads for the barb wasn't tapped in enough so that the barb simply wouldn't screw in all the way. Fortunately I had just bought a G1/4" tap, so I just tapped it out myself and all is well.

    ....

1 lesson i learned about TOPS.

You never want to tap it yourself. Theres a reason why its like that.

As for the long barbs, simple solution would be getting shorter ones like FB Fatboy's or Koolance barbs, or even EK spacers with barbs.

Tapping should of been the last option.

I bought an XSPC top(non res) and it fit perfectly. Looked fantastic, no problems at all.

From Jab-Tech in 2 days cheapest shipping, love it.

I bought one each of the XSPC Res Tops and Edge Acrylic 'block based soley on Martin's testing and I'm fairly pleased, having two criticisms.

One, the Res Top has the outlet barb threading at about a 30 degree up angle as opposed to parallel to the pump base. This rather sucks if you want (like me) to do a direct mount to your radiator using a male to male fitting and a G 3/8" to G 1/4" adapter. Guess I have to fab up something....

Second, the Edge 'block doesn't come with any mounting instructions, nor are there any on their 'site. But it's a beautiful block. Too bad it's not made of silver.

If you notice my post above his, I had the same problem with my xspc top. It didn't have to do with the depth of the thread, the tap originally used was so incredibly worn that it was actually tapping undersized threads.

No machine shop that I know of would ever consider using a tap that worn, it would be tossed immediately. The fit of the threads was so tight that I had to use a socket to remove the barbs, a crescent wrench couldn't even get a good enough grip. That is just sad; threads for o-ring sealed fittings should be an easy fit.

1 of 2 xspc ddc top, not the res top, i have had slight angle to the inlet threading, well at least we use o-ring barbs to seal them so not really a problem, you just see 1 side of the o-ring more squished than the other side...

and while putting on different high flow barbs on them, i had to use a wrench... definitely some QC issues...

3 problems with the same pump? Maybe it's the pump that's off? Just a different perspective. Who knows maybe there's some fraudulant parts floating around?

Geez, I wanted to order the res top since Martins testing said it's a real winner, but this makes me kind of anxious now...

I'm kind of in the same boat now. There simply seems like there's too many problems going on with the production of these things to take the chance right now.

In my case it wasn't the pump. The first bad one killed a pump but I had a spare to test with and the impeller wouldn't spin with that one either. Both pumps are identical mcp355s. I put a Petra's top on it and it worked great so the pump wasn't the issue.

The second bad one just made a buzzing sound no matter how I positioned it.

The 2 replacemente are going strong and hopefully everyone who already has one on order gets a good one.

As for the fraudulant parts, I doubt it. One of my pumps came from Jab-tech and one of the others from Microcenter so unless both companies got fakes that rules the pump out. If I understand correctly Jab-tech gets stuff directly from XSPC so that would rule that out too.

The email XSPC sent me gave me the impression that my replacements were shipped from the factory. If thats the case the factory is in China. The contact address listed on the XSPC website is in the UK. Knowing that info I would conclude they have them made 3rd party for the cheapest price possible where no one checks for or cares about quality. I might be wrong but that seems most likley.

Stuff is made in China because it only costs like $3 USD for labour. It doesn't mean the quality is goes down the drain [although it often happens].

I'm hoping when this 'item' is finally shipped to me that it isn't screwed but I don't think I would have checked if it weren't for this thread.
