It seems like Palit has two versions of 8800GS, of which one has 8 memory chips. That one should be unlockable, too.

Well _IF_ it's true and really works and if it clocks that high (and is not
downgraded to GSO because it couldnt clock higher), then it could turn
into a 9800_GTX_, and for _$120-150_. The Galaxy card also has faster
ram and bios restore - so it's looking almost too good to be true...

The 9600GSO has a 384 and a 768MB model - the 384 doesn't have a
cooling plate, and it is (barely) visible that the first pair is absent;
the 768MB one has plates on both sides.
The (global) page shows no Palit 8800GS.
Gainward otoh and afaik also belongs to palit, but their 88gs also have
the first pair missing it seems.

I'm feeling more and more like it's just isolated cases, and no "this model
is surely flashable to 128sp/512MB" magic model.

I have seen two 384MB versions, one with gold coloured cooler and short memory cooling plate, and one with blue cooler and longer cooling plate which looks as if it covered more chips. I'll have to check that tomorrow.

I'm still guessing that if this exists, then the Galaxy GSO xtreme tuner
might be it. The card and the board on the picture looks exactly like
their 8800GT, with the two pci-power and volt jumper; it also says
3-phase power (like on the 8800GT & GTS, but unlike other GS and GSO
cards with only 2-phase) and 0.8ns ram (like GTS cards).
Maybe this was their late attempt at a non-reference 8800GTS card,
but then nV ordered them to stop and get ready for the 9800 and
9900 line and GT2x0. This is just a very vague guess though...

I believe not all cards are 100% mod-able. Some shader processors might be broken etc....like 9800SE's time.

Did you try disabling some of the pipes/shaders in rivatuner that were
turned off before the flash? Maybe that would help...

Heheh, who knows?
nv already stated that they expect G92 (and G92b) to stay on the market
for another 6-12 months. GT2x0 will come in higher in the rank scale, so
while they might push 9800GT, GTX and GX2 lower, IMO they are just
going to fill the gap left by the 8800GT, GTS and GTX.
If this fully unlocks, or even if it looses a block of shaders, then it's on
par with an 8800GT or GTS (or with the faster ram, a 9800GTX).
At $120, the price loss won't be that bad.

I have clocked all of core/shader/memory speeds down by 50% LOL.... still the same. Upped vgpu as well (this galaxy oc series have a jumper to increase the vgpu by a little). BTW, I'm using an Abit NFM2S...it has 8x pci-e bandwidth. I don't know if that matters or not (not likely)

Rivatuner doesn't support G9x in their nvstrap drivers. I have no idea how to enable that part (the whole nvstrap tab 'disappeared' lol)
