New XSPC Razor 9800GTX block.

I was just checking Jab-tech for their newest products and I noticed the new XSPC Razor 9800gtx waterblock. What's interesting is that is uses the same design as their new cpu block that I think did really well in thermal tests.

This is the first gpu block I've seen without the protruding copper around the gpu but instead of grooves cut out over the gpu. I think this should really cool it really well. I'm really impressed, looks like they really did a good job on it plus it's priced very well. XSPC is getting better everyday.

They have a pdf you can view on Jab-Tech's website which shows more pictures and installation. Looks really nice.

Why is that so? Maybe I'm just seeing things, but it appears that most of the XSPC products have a pretty decent flow.

Yes there are holes in the copper part of the block. View the pdf for more info concerning that.

Did anyone try the Razor for the 8800? They were a good 10% cheaper than their EK rival over here and I can't find any reviews on them.

XSPC = LED lighted Blocks...

i hope they do clean taps for the barbs. 1 of my xspc ddc top inlet had slight angle to it, nothing that a nice o-ring and tightening properly doesn't take care of...

Looks good, I wonder how channels compare to pins for cooling the gpu. It would be very interesting to see both thermal and restriction comparisons. I agree it looks like it would provide less restriction than a pin design.

Also How thick is the block, i.e. is it a single slot solution or will it take up 2. I personally would like to see more single slot solutions, I don't like giving up limited expansion slots to a card cooler. Granted there are not that many cards I need in addition to video and a sound card, but it would be nice to have the option to add an additional raid controller or other I/O cards. Really I think we are due to have the standard ATX MB redesigned given that almost every video card takes up two slots and the SLI/Crossfire approach of multiple GPU's.

The blue acrylic is a UV blue also, it's really pretty highly UV sensetive too.

Even the flash on my camera was activating the UV in the bay reservoir...pretty cool.

Looking at those pictures raises a questions in my mind. What is to stop the fluid from simply flowing from one barb to the other? There is no seal in the middle section between the channels. There even appears to be a small gap between the acrylic and copper in those pictures.

Good observation, but it's really no different than many other full coverage blocks unless they have a seal that wraps around internally as well. Danger Den is the only one I've seen do that, so you'll get some internal leaking on the others as well.

But I wouldn't worry about it, internal leaks usually don't amount to much unless the block is fairly restrictive if sealed up completely. It usually means less pressure drop which means your pump produces more flow which mitigates the issue pretty well. I've done a couple of experiments around sealing different blocks up completely and most don't net any measureable gains.

Isn't that just the variation in the pictures? Light etc.
The picture of the clear seems in lower quality than the blue?
