I think it's a good chip, but very sensitive to temperature. LCB9E 0742CPMW. Quite new, that's why I got it. Afaik 185s generally are bad clockers, there are a few gems but most of them did ~2900 in the opty era.

this has got me hoping, though.

Trust me, there are better ones than mine out there

But you always buy B9's, they're the worst coldbuggers around! I tried a 4000+ toledo this weekend, needed +30 for 280mhz FSB or something like that!

BB's are a bit better, hehe

Btw, my chip hateD (I sold it I remember) voltage, so I think it's a decent OC with that little volts. 1.85v should've given me about 3850 I guess, but this chip didn't like it...

i always buy B9s, huh? this is my third opty, come on. It's just that I was fairly impressed by my 180 doing so well, regardless of the coldbug. did 290htt at ~5°C iirc. hence me focussing on that 185.

let's see how it turns out, then discuss

Your 180 is nice. I have one in Germany, actually. Thought it was lost, but my friend found it somewhere in his apartment. But I don't really need it lol

air suicide, ~1.57v, 30°C idle or something. 1.6v will probably give me a 3300 validation, but i won't go that far on air.

Got this H2o kit a week ago.
It's given my opty a second life
It did 3Gz stock volts, but going higher was too hot.
CPU still has headroom, but HTT is being a bit of a
Wont go above 350 and I know this board went over 400 a few years back.Using Tony's bios maybe thats the problem

It may be coldbug issues, actually I had an Opty 170 a few months ago that had the same stepping. Coldbug @ high 20's C and 355mhz FSB(!)

Thank you for the kind words, I am glad it made you post (for the first time in 2 years!)

I shall open up my secret then
There are 2 kinds of 1210 (not counting the "HE") opterons out there:
one with "CS" on the box, which is an F2 stepping and does not overclock that much, the second has "CZ" on the box (and online part number which makes it easy to find) the latter is the F3 core revision ,
the same core as a well known expensive (for me) 6400+ BE, you get the idea
I could not find a "F3" in Canada, ever since they came out, no problem with an F2 thou,so imagine my joy when I spotted one accidentally, and they only had 2 in stock.
I've finally added some "prime time" at a safe CPU Mhz and RAM, (greedy me keep running the new GPU2 client around the clock) .
    ************************************************** ****88
    quick "suicide":

38°C idle temps? I can guess why Orthos failed.

Opty is not that bad, but the cooler on it might not be enough
Water is you best bet, even the best air coolers can't cool it fast enough
