I'm pulling my main rig apart today gonna use fold6 as my main pc for now, I need to RMA this phenom chip soon because it is driving me nuts with the instability. Sigh

Wait, just thought of something... if I buy a cheap AM2 X2 CPU then I could keep running while my phenom is in RMA... then I got to thinking, hey I could pair that up with a cheap biostar board for after I get my quad back so I don't have a CPU lying around... then I realized I'd need memory so I priced out some DDR2...

$134 from newegg for an X2 4400+ brisbane, Biostar NF61S-M2 TE board, and 1GB kingston DDR2-800 memory. Oh mighty tempting....

I really doubt I will be able to make it, but I've got all four of my quads going strong. These new work units just don't produce as many points as the 2653s we've all come to love.

I was getting around 8-9k ppd with 2 quads and a laptop, then I upped it to one more quad about the same time as all the 3065s came out and ppd went to 10k. Now I've got one more and with all the 2665s I'm still barely above 10k...

well, I'm getting a robust mix of projects, for sure.
    Last few days:

    folding rig:
    -SMP1-
    2665 [R0:C211:G6] good
    2665 [R0:C139:G5] good
    3062 [R4:C79:G38] EuE 9%
    2653 [R19:C0:G67] good
    2653 [R33:C25:G65] underway
    -SMP2-
    2653 [R37:C21:G62] good
    2653 [R37:C21:G63] good
    2653 [R20:C50:G66] good
    3064 [R2:C61:G31] NaN 47%
    2665 [R0:C665:G4] underway

    main rig:
    2653 [R4:C45:G63] good
    2653 [R30:C16:G65] good
    2653 [R6:C18:G67] good
    2665 [R0:C356:G4] good
    3062 [R5:C81:G37] underway

Not real happy about the bad completions, but those seem to be expected EuEs... ?

The bad news: Team [XS] is down a few on our active list (down to 85)

The good news: our average PPD is MAAASSSHIV! 1,800!!

Keep it up team - we are doing some serious good work here!

Well... quad core is coming out now. X2 is going in HOPEFULLY though this will ensure that yes my CPU is borked and I can get a new, fully functional quad CPU back, perhaps even a B3 revision, man that would be nice...

So whoever is ready to steamroll me, well, your job just got easier

Well so far I think I've proven my DFI board is fine and all my troubles have been that CPU. I dropped the 4400+ brisbane in the board and it booted right up, so I rebooted, set the HTT to 261MHz so CPU = 3GHz (adjusted mem accordingly) and it booted right up, priming right now. Previously I couldn't get it to boot right up with the phenom, it would take some coaxing, and playing with any CPU setting at all would make it hate my guts.

So I guess I contact AMD soon, in the meantime we'll see what this brisbane is capable of

Sparky, you may want to contact the board manufacturer and see if there's another bios available (upon request). I had issues with my Q9450 locking up with an official bios release that was fine while running dual core cpus folding. Since my update with a unreleased bios, no issues. Just a thought since they're always working on these things, plus any info you could give may help them in development.

That's a thought Sir Loin, but the thing is others have used this board model with this CPU model with the same bios and no issues, so I doubt that the bios is the problem

I'm keeping the brisbane at 3GHz, I think I could get it higher if I really wanted to spend the time working my way up there, but 3GHz was easy, now I'm just dropping volts down as low as they will go and still keep 3GHz stable. I'm hoping that once I get my phenom back its stock quad heatpipe heatsink can keep the CPU cool enough at 3GHz, that would be sweet.
*edit* blah, prime failed at 4 minutes, guess I need to bump the volts up slightly, it didn't like this drop I did.

Don't forget to put it a little bit higher before you start folding. I've seen systems hang on folding that were stable for prime but never the other way around.

Brisbane 4400+ @ 3GHz 1.425V as set in bios, everything seems happy at this setting. Going to find the vcore measure point when I get around to it so I know how accurate the bios setting vs actual voltage is. Definitely slower crunching SMP units than my phenom at 2.3GHz though. Hopefully AMD has a quick turnaround.

But if they don't send you back a 50 I doubt you'll be able to get 3GHz, that's going to demand an insane amount of power.

Must be something with your machines. I'm running a 2653 and it's giving me 1880ppd. Win XP, dual SMP on Q6600 @ 3.3GHz. The other two cores are doing a 3064.

Threw some spare parts I had lying around together and now fold7 is up and running

No box for it yet though so it is just an open air system right now.

Have you checked the logfile? My guess is you are getting units that are borking early (EUEs), and the client will try them 3x before dumping the WU and core for something new. Sucks, I know. However, you may want to make certain all is good with your board with that OC, because I've had boards going south make WUs end early too. Cover your bases.

I ran msconfig and cleaned up a bunch of crap. When I had nothing going on memory usage was at 1gb. I got it down to 300mb or so by shutting stuff down. Shut down both clients a few days ago I went to start them back up today and now I have no internet. Effin Comcast and their crappy lines. I have no digital cable either.

I think it would be cool if we added a Windows Vista guide into the giant client installation thread. I had to run around all over the place to figure it out.

I like the idea. Most of it is similar to setting it up in XP, but there are a few things I figured out that needed adjusted. SMP can't be in program files (IIRC), UAC needs turned off... that's two differences off the top of my head.
