Had a wind storm here last night and the neighbors tree blew over across the main power lines for my block. My new linux box wont restart and is giving me a memory fail code. Got to love those ballistix I'll have a little less uotput for the next couple of days. I have some ram to replace it with, just no time to do it until this weekend. So Sparky, you get to relax for a couple days

We had some really nasty wind yesterday as well. Power dropped several times so I just shut stuff down for a while until it seemed like the utility was stable. Glad we didn't have any casualties!

On your side note... I'll be buying it for the xbox since I prefer the controller by a lot. Also the online achievements give it a plus. But the tought that the console can break down any moment you are playing does give it a big minus.
After 18months we'll be replaying it on the pc anyway

    Here's where I'm at.
I sold my dual core , dual socket Opty 940 system.
    I currently have a x2 2GHz folding and a x2 3.3Ghz folding for 2100ppd together avg.
I found in a box my original 2.2Ghz 939 x2 that I haven't used in years and bought a motherboard from a member here on the forums that I expect this week. I'll install it in my Dad's rig to replace his Celeron office computer where he runs his auctions. I'll run that at 2.5ish for about 1000ppd average.

So the basic systems that all have regular jobs and are supposed to be on will be doing +3K ppd average.

Future, I definitely want to get some quads going. I think it's time I bought my first Intel rig in ... well at least 5 years and put see what the Ugly one can wring out of one of these babies. Like many I'm waiting for the GPU client to run on my 3870 as well. Overall , this should be a riot and cause some rise in points. I thought I'd buy one system every two months until I used up my available eco friendly power generating capacity.

After buying and clocking this 5000 BE as far as I can push it, I have to say, it's actually slower than my old +3GHz Opty rigs from two years ago, So, no more AMD stuff for a while. I mean performance per dollar is very good but it's just not enough performance overall. Maybe when we see clocks on the Phenoms's way up but it's no fun to run benchmarks and realize socket 939's you built two years ago are faster than the new stuff at equal clocks (939x2 vs Brisbane 940x2). Was a good learning experience though and got me back into building rigs so it was a "fun for the money project".

Now onwards to Intel, I like climbing the stats....

I've heard the brisbane has quite a higher L2 latency than 90nm winsor/toledo/etc. Not entirely sure why but that might be part of it.

I'll have you to let you know how my phenom clocks and performs when I get it

Not to mention that it has 1/2 the L2.
I can't decide what to put in my daughters computer. I can put in a 5000black or a 6400black. I just need to figure out if I want to spend $100 or $160.

Wow, I just saw that I'm in the top 20 producers.
And I'm at 149th place already! And only folding for a couple weeks.
As happy as I am I should have more resistance.

The Q6600 is definitely the best value/production set-up right now. Even the bad one's will clock around 3.2, and most will do 3.4-3.6. I have one at 3.6 running 2 smp clients at a time using the affinity changer. If I get 2653's, it produces 4500ppd. The last two days all I get are 3060's Those take forever and don't reward you with much more in points.

I've been an amd guy since the K6's, but I have only one amd rig left now, and that one will probably be replaced with a Q9450 as soon as they are available.

I hear you guys loud and clear, I'm just not seeing the beneift to the AMD stuff right now. I mean it's fun to play with, but so is your willy and it only lasts so long before you need something else to do.

I'm going to skip the Intel dual cores, I'm not feeling the love there. The quads have me very interested and dual quads have me even more interested. I mean I have a nice 3870 that is checking out to be a massive OC'er but is definitely CPU bound.

The X2 3800+ has the same L2 and is faster clock for clock as well.

If money wasn't as much of a concern I'd go the 6400 just because it is 90nm and faster/more cache.

Its great to see all this production ramping up, even when DAK isn't folding! We are producing as much as when he was folding at full capacity... we really have a chance to climb high on the charts if we keep it up. We have a lot of new folders joining the team, and its great to see... makes me want to compete more.

I would like to add to my production but I think I will probably pass over the Q9450's and wait until late this year or early next year to get a Nehalem quad.

Yeah I hear ya, but you're producing plenty anyhow. I'm going to have a lot of fun ramping up as time goes on. This team is doing some serious folding right now!

Just curious, how much does a Q6600 do @ stock? I'm trying to compare some numbers. Heh of course who here has one at stock, what am I thinking

There is a site that has all sorts of CPUs and their performance on different WUs listed, but I forget what it is. Does anyone remember?

sparky, most of my folders are stock, but also mostly not the consumer branded chips. What is the speed on q6600?

what I really want to know is, what is the expectable PPD from a Xeon 5450....

I have one compute node running a pair of 2.66GHz quads, so one Q6600 ought to be 10% less PPD than that. Not sure of a good way to get the PPD though. I can post a log if you know of a way to analyze it.
