I dont think Nvidia and Greenpeace will become friends. Ever
If they would, that would be very hypocritic.

I still have the 640MB GTS and I'll probably keep it until the 55nm refresh of the GTX 260. I've been playing lots of games I've missed over the last 3-4 years.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

Maybe 9900GTX will be the G92 55nm refresh we've been hearing about!

Who cares about that though, cos we got the real next gen right in the 260/280GTX right here!!!!

Very nice, but as I feared needs quite alot of energy. 65nm is a safe bet, they can do an optical shrink to 55nm, when they are ready.

It's interesting though, this is really similar to the 7900 Series vs X1900 Series, ATI was a bit faster but at the cost of larger die size, Nvidia was slower but had greater yields due to lower die size. This time, ATI is slower, but not just by a bit, but they have a smaller die size advantage, and they keep the feature set advantage. Nvidia has way better performance on a single die, bur also more costly.

If ATI can do their Crossfire on a stick right, and charge a good price, they should be sitting in a good position. The extreme high end will belong to NV though with 3-Way SLI on GTX 280.

If the more-than-two cards setup doesn't suck in drivers, which is what's happening right now.

    corrected

ATI has usually been going to the latest process node for their high end, look at the 2900xt, 3870x2, and 4870x2 (which is using a "premium" 55nm process)

    AliG,
R600 was left stranded on 80nm even when the rest of the family was on 65nm.

Yes, and the power consumption was a nightmare.

i think nvidia wont switch to 55 nm (they usually dont use half nodes) at all and the nextnext gen card (lol) will use 45 nm, due in q4 2009

45nm? Where is it going to be built? I thought TSMC would go 40nm

Unless you're telling me Intel will fab GPUs for nVidia
    Are we there yet?

    not really true:

    R300 series:
    RV350 130nm
    R300 150nm

    R400 series:
    RV380 130nm RV370 110nm RV410 110nm
    R42x 130nm R48x 130nm R43x 110nm

    R500 series:
RV5xx began with 90nm but switched shortly after to 80nm
    R5xx stayed 90nm

    R600 series:
    RV610/620 65nm
    R600 80nm

    later:
    RV620/670 55nm

even ati had, most of the time, the highend n-1 process node schema.
Since ATI doesnt produce any singelcore highend solution they can go with the lowest process with every core the have, RV still mean Radeon Value.

    Yes?
How does the fact that TSMC has also 40nm planned change the fact that they do 45nm which you claimed didn't exist?
