My new Lian Li v1010B build (new V series) -*pic heavy*

Some of you will think I am crazy, but I switched from my red Temjin tj07 to the new Lian Li v1010. Just wanted a more conventional layout (IMO), something cleaner, a change, and the kitties in my house were jumping on the case, so having it painted drove me nuts. Anyway, it feels good to match this case with my little a05.

The case is regular Lian Li quality, as expected. Originally, I was going to put a pa 120.2 in, but the space is lacking. Either you will have to remove the HD cages in the bottom compartment, run it on top (outside), or stand it up with 1 or no optical bays taken up. So I decided to put an apogee pump/block hybrid in due to my positive experiences with it in the aforementioned a05. Again, I wanted something cleaner and simpler than some of my more intricate water cooling circuits of the past; with work, grad school, and getting serious about my girl, I have less time to test and go nuts, so this was perfect for me.

Sp I put a pa 120.1 in the rear, and there is enough clearance for the big TC rsingle 120mm rad, and it does not jut out over the mobo, even with a big hybrid block like the Apogee Drive installed. However, making sure you cable first is of importance before putting in the block and the rad. Of course, with my choices performance was the expense, but it is not like my system is a slouch. My main rig might become a Mac Pro, but that is another story.

If you go with a single rad in the rear, you can easily house a few items in the 5.25 bays, and get Aqua Computer rad 5.25" bay clips to hold another single 120 up front, to get dual action. I almost did it, but decided to go with a single 120mm rad, but may due so in the future since I have 3 single 120mm rads lying about, and the aforementioned AC clips. The bay covers are perforated, so this setup is very desirable.

    For those considering the case:

Do not lose the mobo retention screws like my dumb ass (2 of 3 lost at first, but found 1, so now I am only 1 out) because there are no extras. I emailed Hank from Lian Li, and told him LL should include more. Additionally, there is a divider between the 5.25" bays and the HD compartment, that ostensibly blocks air flow - I asked Hank to inform his designers about putting some perforations there to help with air flow. Speaking of mobo screws, one of the nice features is the removable mobo tray. The routing is tight behind the mobo, but there is a space to route the 12v cable behind the mobo, if needed. For maximum air flow, blow holes will definitely be needed since this case lacks the perforation of past V series cases, which is what I dig. All in all, it is a sick case, that is a nice blend of price, quality, and aesthetics.

Edit: the built-in fan controller is perfect for med- and high-speed fans. There are 3 settings for L/M/H, which is why I refrained from putting my Scythe controller in - something to consider during your purchase.

Without further ado, here are the pics.

    Taking apart the ole tj07.

Getting ready to cut. Burnt out one Dremel here.

Leo likes the TC pa 120.1

Lion-cut Cali the cat inspects the work area

Much to the chagrin of my girlfriend, I make a mess when building.

Here is the routing behind the mobo. You have to cut some extra space for the cable since the panel guides get in the way.

It is a tight fit (heh), but I ran two cables through here.

The finished blow holes. Not my best job, but pretty precise, and no errors (an exception for me)

    Zee inside

Wanted a little cleaner cable, but after sp1 killed my install, I just wanted my case up finished, and to be up and running after 2 days of work.

    Chip and Diego supervising

A horrible shot of my jerker and main setup

    A better shot

yeah these cases have been expected for a while, especially the V2010. The 1010 is a very nice case too anyway, may be a bit small for WC. Oh I love your cats, not sure I'd be as tolerant when building a rig I got two cats, and I prefer to keep them away from the PC when the case is open One of my cats look exactly like the one smelling your rad on the first pic

You obviously have never had cats that shed all over your house

With that kinda cat, you can literally pull the hair off the cat in the same area for hours and never run out.

    Cool

are you gonna cut out the fan grills and remove the screw on ones up top? it improves airflow greatly.

to find out for yourself how bad it reduces airflow, place your hand 6inches infront of your face and blow on it. then put a fan guard / grill in between every few seconds. you'll notice a big difference

i've removed every one on my case

Thanks guys. I really love this case.

The two Tabbys are my girlfriends (Leo and Diego). The little black dude is mine (Chip). The prima donna ragdoll is Cali who is my rommates. Since it is getting hot in NY (ocassionally), my roomdog asked my veterinary tech GF to give her that cut. It was going to be more, but Cali started getting pissed, so they left it at that. I kind of dig it. Plus it's less hair for my air intakes.

You have no idea about the battle I have with case fans, radiators, and cat hair.

Hong, you should have. It's on sale on [H]. You can come by and pick up my old Omen case on the cheap.

Nice job, but the v1010B is just too small for my tastes.

Post some pics when you finish with it. I'm curios how you will do the wiring... there's very little space behind the mobo tray if you want to route and close the panel in the end. I learned that the hard way. 2hrs to route wires only to find out the damn panel wouldn't close
