If that pic of the heatspreader is real the die must be monstrous.

True but the bigger the die the bigger the heatspreader usually. Besides all rumours point to a massive chip regardless. Anyway i fixed the wording in my OP.

it seems to me that the original pic is larger, but the one who did that screenshot resized the preview window (which resizes the original image to fit the preview window) to conceal details on the die or smth. maybe because of being under nda, who knows.

i'd also say it's legit. if the rumored specs are true this one will be some heavy beast
And we have a winner! Ofcourse that's the reason why they didn't post high res shots. Not everyone knows how to mask a PCB/Chips properly.

I dunno, those definitely look like they were digitally edited to be whited out, my bet is that was done so that people don't know the final spec of the memory being used until nvidia reveals it themselves

i dont understand why manufacturers are pushing for dual core GPUs, all this will bring is a loss of high end performance due to scaling issues.

pictures are kinda small though, can anyone with and 8800gtx/ultra confirm that this isn't simply a g80 gpu?

I'm thinking the reason for this is because they want to dominate the physics market as well now, cause they are so mad at Intel. and dual GPU cards are really the way to go for that. That and I think they are starting to hit performance walls with their single chips now, not performance walls as in cant go any faster/higher, but performance wall in a marketing since, the better the single chip gets the longer it takes to improve the next go around, multi gpu's make this process much easier.

lol, and yet leave all sensitive information on every other chip and label so that it can be traced back and the leak kicked out of nVidia's books for good and sued for breaking NDA?

No chance. Those are thermal pads, you would have known that if you ever removed a heatsink.

Actually my vid card was sitting on my desk without the heatsink when I asked about those white blobs in the photo. I just didn't recognize them as thermal pads (assuming they really are thermal pads). I did appreciate the answer to my query though. I always try to remove those slimy gauze things before they harden up like clay in a kiln. Evil little things.

it is not fake, just compare it with mechanical drawing leak earlier.

Well with Intel's Larrabee is going in that same directions, why shouldn't Nvidia take the multicore path?

Yer gotta go with you on this one.

yer seen loads of the thermal pads, but why not remove, and its a pristine white, which considering the quality of the photo would be hard to do unless you digitally whited out afterwards.

Edit: Then again why white out only some of them, all the chips would be the same, and not like you can make anything out anyway.

Each shader cluster/pipe is basicly a core. We have had that for ages and ages. What people talk about is multiple chips sharing memory and such. With Larabee you have the same setup. Just with IA32 minicores on a single shared die with a raster/rop/tmu frontend. The minicores will only replace shaders.

I can't wait to see what the cooler is going to be for this. I hope it is incredibly efficient at keeping things cool while still maintaining relatively low volume levels. I find my 8800 Ultra quite quiet at 100% fan speed. I hope I can say the same for this new card.
