    Unrealer: Thanks for the data. You're E4300 needs a calibration of +2 on both cores just like my early B2 E6400 needs and many other E4300 processors need. That should bring your idle temperatures up to 27C which is 4C above your room temperature which is what an air cooled core 2 duo processor runs at when at approximately 1600 MHz and 1.10 volts.

    Just enter this into your INI file:

    Idle0=2
    Idle1=2

    and you will have accurate temperatures from idle to TjMax. Changing TjMax may fix your idle temperatures but it will screw up your load temperatures and they won't be accurate.

    msgclb: Plan B to follow shortly. I'm definitely not asking Vista to use your mail icons! I guess it's doing me a favor of some sort.

    Ok, a bit of a glitch I'm getting.
    (running the last beta in Vista x 64, BTW)

    When minimized to the system tray, the temps displayed bounce around as expected and hovering the mouse gives me the thumbnail but when running in the notification area the temps don't change at all, remaining static till the app is closed.
    Reopening the program will give me a fresh set of numbers but then they stay the same.
    In other words, the notification area doesn't seem to refresh.

    Is this just me?

    clokker: Don't worry, this is not just you! I call this a Vista exclusive feature.

    I'm using XP and don't have access to Vista so all I can do is try a few more things to get those frozen Vista temps working.
    There haven't been any tray issues reported from XP users.

    Here is version 2.54 with a few more Vista compatibility changes.
    http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip

    Can you confirm what version you are using as displayed in the screen title bar so if I ever do get this fixed I'll know when to stop.

    So, i must change something more?

    Just for your info Unrealer. I tested my E6400 - B2 a long time ago in the basement. Room temperature was 12C and uncorrected reported temperature was 9C or 3C less. This is exactly what you get with your E4300. There isn't anyone who would disagree that TjMax=85C for the original B2 series. It's CoreTemp that first decided to go with TjMax=100C for the E4300 and many other programmers blindly followed along. Your thorough testing has finally proven that TjMax=100C is wrong for your E4300.

    Make sure there isn't a semi-colon in front of your idle settings in the INI file. Your last screen shot is not using the +2 idle calibration feature:

    This won't work:
    ;Idle0=2
    ;Idle1=2

    This works:
    Idle0=2
    Idle1=2

    Once I get the Vista compatibility issues sorted out I can move on to creating a second screen within RealTemp where users can make adjustments without having to edit the INI file.

    Right then...beta 2.54 is somewhat of a sidestep.
    I now just get RealTemp icons in the notification area instead of text (yes, I rebooted).

    You've got a PM.

    I am running Vista 64 Ultimate with service pack 1 installed.

    My main app screen updates just fine, before and after it's been minimised.

    If I leave the program minimised to the task bar, the 3 temps I see update too.

    If I hover over the minimised program in the task bar, all 4 temps show, and update correctly.

    Just figured out what you were referring to. My bad!

    These temps do not update in lower right corner:

    Talonman: Now can you try downloading the latest beta version to see if I have fixed this problem yet.
    http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip

    My loaded temp's are reading a tad too low... Can I fix this?
    With RealTemp, almost anything can be fixed. The only question is, why do you want to do this? Do you believe that RealTemp is wrong and those other programs are right? They might be but what proof do you have of their accuracy? I'm not trying to argue but just need users to question all temperature numbers that are being reported to them.

    clokker: Thanks for your testing. I guess this proves that the CreateIcon function does not work in Vista the same way that it works in XP. Time for plan C or D or......

    I will try it now..

    I have no idea who is correct. I just figured that if Everest was wrong, I would have heard about it. Your program may indeed be the best and most accreate CPU temp reader released to date...

    This is my first build. Still learning.

    I tried the new beta and it behaves the same. It does minimize to the taskbar and show the fluctuating temps but the systray remains frozen.

    Thanks for the info.

    I am not sure what the TjMax should be for a Q6600.

    I tested my Q6600 - G0 with a very accurate Fluke IR Thermometer and it said 95C. You can go by that number or 100C which seems to be like an old tale that has been passed along from one generation of processor to another but doesn't really have anything to do with any desktop processors.

    Before it became evident that ALL core processors are not accurate at reporting idle temperatures, TjMax=100C was a nice convenient number to cover up this problem.

    With the help of W1zzard at TechPowerUp, I have come up with another way to create tray temperature icons.
    I'll post a new beta tomorrow so we can begin testing again.

    Place your bets now if you think the Vista mystery has been solved.

    The million dollar question. Is version 2.55 compatible with Vista?

    The font isn't finalized yet so don't scream if you don't like it. I'm just trying to see if creating the temperature icon this new way works or not in Vista.
