the stuck temp is not abit's fault...that lies strictly with Intel with poor quality DTS sensors....i had the exact same problem on my 1st QX9650...core one was stuck at either 51C or 54C...it would register above that when i prime 95 the cores with a high overclock...at stock speed, it didn't budge!

17 b02 is the latest beta AFAIK. I found it to be the best by far for the Q9450.

I could live with one core temp not being reported, however this is the main temp of the chip, hmm, I wonder where I stand for an exchange as techincally the chip is flawed....

Hmm I'm going to have to try the 17 beta, the official 16 bios is decent but my uguru is broken still as it doesn't give me the proper vcore choices to set. Also my board and chip is great at 445ish, but getting to 450 has been tough and it's still not 100% stable. If its still raining tonight after work i'll definitely flash it, but if its not raining, I have to do yard work.

Well 17 probably won't fix that. But it should give you more FSB.

Any BIOS after 14 can and usually will report an odd CPU temp. Ignore it and go by the core temps.

Nice overclock Cob. You recommend 14 for the q6700 as well? I just upgraded to the 16, but should I roll back?

Well in theory 14 should be just as good with a Q6700 as a Q6600. Certainly give it a go.

I found 16 b04 to be better than the final 16 too, tho still not as good as 14.

Also curious on what your WC loop is like. Im dumping my current rad for an MCR320 w/ Panaflows and hopefully getting a Dtek Fuzion V2 if they ever come back in stock. Im having a hard time booting in at 4ghz. When I get my tracers in ill try to hit a higher fsb with a 9x versus lower fsb with a 10x. I dont know, but I really need to hit 4ghz haha.

It's pretty basic tbh. A D-Tek Fuzion, Alphacool Nexxxos Extreme II and a little XSPC pump/res combo, all on 11/8mm Tygon. I'd like to get a PA120.2, but the roof of my case is cut for the Alphacool and I don't want to have to drill more holes in it.

But my temps have always been fine with that set-up anyway. It ran a B3 Q6600 at 3.55ghz for 9 months, the majority of which was Folding time.

Hi Cob, this image is from my Q9450...compared to your coretemp some of the fields are blank or completely incorrect....was this something you noticed when you were on BIOS 16?

Any ideas as to why this would be different? cheers.

I haven't really been using Core Temp with the Q9450, and I doubt I was using 16 for long enough to have a reason to open it.

In fact I don't think I was able to boot into Windows with 16 using the settings I wanted to use (475x8), so it was quickly reflashed.

Have you tried that last non-beta version of Core Temp?

FORGET the exchange with Intel!...i tried it already!...by all means, you can try; they might have changed their policy.

your best bet is to return it to the vendor if you are within that time frame.

I re-downloaded the latest non-beta coretemp and tested it and this time all but one of the fields was ok (?), so that resolves that, thanks.

I think I might try the lastest beta BIOS if it seems to support higher o/c FSB with this chip, I've not had much success around 450MHz.

Hows the SLI vs Xfire on this board? Because of the slower PCI X slot?

I'm not really sure what you mean by SLI vs Xfire since you can't run SLI on any intel chipsets right now. Personally I think P35 boards are single video card only, the 4x 2nd slot doesn't really allow full performance. You'd be much better off going with an x38/48 board if you want xfire. Or an nvidia board for SLI.

In my case I've found 14 to be more stable for 24/7 with my q6600 @ 3600. I was getting the occasional random reboot when using 16 although I can't say if it was the bios or not.

Anyone used the E7200 yet? I believe I'll be gettng this board, that CPU and 2gig of PC6400 Ballistix and just wandering if it'll be as good as I hope.

Ace, if you read this, would nylon screws and bolts work for the pipe mod? Thanks

I apologize if these questios have already been answered, have been working 12 hr days and can't keep up with this great thread.

i think a few used them...just be advised you can't torque those down to tight otherwise they will strip; at least the ones i tried in the past.

i found 16.B04 would do the random reboots in Vista64...that was the only true QX9650 ready bios...so...i switched up to either 16.b10 or 16.b09...everything has been stable since then.

I used nylon screws and nuts for my heatpipe mod, and you are absolutely right I have to be careful not to overtighten them.
