Lu(ky - So your gonna get a replacement instead of a refund and new motherboard? Its a tough call because there is a good chance alot of these minor issues we're all having will get sorted sooner or later? On a different note I just installed my QX9770 and it booted right up with no issues at all! Granted I'm just running it stock but at least I didn't have any issues with the board recognizing it. It took me a while to get it installed becuase the QX9770 has no IHS if you can believe that (must be very careful installing waterblock so neither of the cores crack)!

Leeghoofd - If I understand correctly your not able to install Vista because you get errors during the install (errors about copying files)? But this same board worked fine with pre-installed OS before? I'm sorry that I didn't understand fully

Yeah I wanted some more punishment. It was very strange I was able to run on 0511 a 1800 FSB on my Q6600 3D stable, but not prime95 stable. I went to my QX9650 and the last setting I was stable at 4.05GHz with prime95, 3DMARK03,05 & 06, memory, but not in games like Crysis, BattleField 2 I get blue screens. So weird that it passes everything but not in real time games? So I will be pushing and pushing where I left off when I get my new board, and I decided to go back to 0511 from 0603 because of OCing was better on the QX9650.

Can someone explain to me why a QX9770 cpu at a stock FSB of 1600 works fine but not with any other cpu like the QX9650 at a 1600 FSB?

Would like to know if anyone else out there with a QX9770 on this board. If so what are your idle temps are on this Mobo? No matter what I do mine stays around 50c idle and under a load "prime95" I see a high of 66c. I use a D-tek Fusion with nozzle kit. Wondering is mobo being horizonal might be the cause of my temps? If so any sujustions as to which CPU water block might be better lieing flat?

    PS: I am running @ 4.05 GHz 1.37vcore 1800FSB

No idea, I have just moved from a QX9650 to a QX9770 and had exactly the same experience. Weird!

I am running a D-Tek Fuzion V2 with Quad Core plate. I have virtually the same settings as you (10 x 400, 1.4V in bios), and getting up to 63c under Prime95. As the V2 is supposed to be slightly cooler than your V1, I don't think you have a problem!

This is exactly what I posted earlier, very interesting? When I used my E8400 FSB1600Mhz was no good but with the QX9770 (with native FSB1600Mhz support) works just fine with both unlinked and linked/synced!

When I set a 475FSB I cannot set the memory any higher even unlinked. If I put in 2000MHz it just defaults to 1900MHz. I can get the board to boot at 500FSB, but it freezes starting windows, whatever memory speed I set, linked or unlinked.

Your not the only one Tyke, I have the same issue with QX9770 (but never tried with E8400)? What I did find out however, if I set FSB to 2000Mhz (unlinked or linked) the memory stays at 1900Mhz but once you increase the FSB to 2027Mhz or higher the memory will finally go up to same speed, very odd? Do you have any idea at all what might be causing the problem, this will make testing RAM at 2000Mhz very difficult to say the least! I tried different multipliers, unlinked, linked/synced, linked/auto, etc... but no luck at all! I wonder if there is any chance its a BIOS issues (I'm still using 0511), what BIOS are you running? I'm still working my way up from FSB1600Mhz x 9.0x (stability testing) so it will be a while before I'm seriously testing at speeds this high but I'd still very much like to know what is going on?

The new BIOS 0512 from Asus obviously fixes the temp problem Just updated it an the temp went down with MORE than 10c on my Q6600, both idle and load. Weird....

Yes, you're right. At 2028FSB the memory can be set to 2000MHz, but everything freezes at the post screen, so I can't test!

Yeah I know just what you mean! I feel hopeful that I'll at least be able to get into Windows and run a CPU-Z validation at FSB2000Mhz but only once I get GTL's sorted. At the moment I'm testing at FSB1800Mhz and still have not had to resort to GTL tuning to get stable (although I haven't tried running Prime for any longer than about an hour, will try running overnight).

At the moment Tyke have you started messing around the GTL settings and if so what settings are you using and what are you main BIOS settings (VCORE, FSB, Multi, RAM clockspeed, and Linked/Unlinked)? I'm fairly confident about tuning the GTL's once I need to as I've been trying to research as much as possible about it! O-yeah, I meant to ask earlier, what BIOS are you currenlty using?

At the moment Tyke have you started messing around the GTL settings and if so what settings are you using and what are you main BIOS settings (VCORE, FSB, Multi, RAM clockspeed, and Linked/Unlinked)? I'm fairly confident about tuning the GTL's once I need to as I've been trying to research as much as possible about it! O-yeah, I meant to ask earlier, what BIOS are you currenlty using?
Currently I am running FSB 475 linked on a 8.5 multiplier and synced to memory at 1900MHz, which is stable. VCore is 1.4125 with Loadline Calibration disabled, VLL at 1.7, VTT at 1.28, NB 1.54, SB 1.6. I have played about with GTL values with no great success. If you look in different places you will see people recommending anything from 0.589 to 0.70 as the right ratio for Quad Cores, so it is is bit hit and miss. Interestingly on both my QX9650 and now the QX9770 it was the same core that failed during Prime. When I have been making adjustments I have only been adjusting the lane with the failing core, GTL0, maybe I should adjust both!

I am disappointed that I can't get into Windows with 500FSB, also any of the values below 500 do not even boot until I drop down to 475FSB.

I am currently using bios 0603, but I have also tried 0512.
    Regards
    Tyke

Well i think i´ve made some progress...
After several hours of testing, i found some quite simple settings, that until now(fingers crossed), are working quite well for me!
I was previously running my QX9650 at 1400QDR and 1800Mhz memory as i was unable to go further without BSOD, freezes, or messages in boot saying files are missing or corrupt...

    Here are my settings now:

1800QDR running LINKED and SINKED (450FSB)
Multiplier 8.5 = 3825Mhz (I think i will be able to raise the multiplier more but i haven´t tested)
    Memory timings 7-7-7-18 1T
    P1 ENABLED
    P2 ENABLED
VCORE - 1,33125V (set in BIOS)
    Load Line Calibration - DISABLED
VDIMM - 1,86v (set in BIOS)
    NB - 1,40v
    SB - 1,55v
    GTL ref 0 -29
    GTL ref 1 -32
    GTL ref 2 -32
    GTL ref 3 -29

    All spread spectrums DISABLED
All the other settings where left AUTO
    BIOS 0603

With this settings i was able to run PRIME95 stable for 2 hours then i manualy interrupt, run SUPER PI 1M and 32M several times without errors and 3 loops of 3DMARK06..
During MAX LOAD in PRIME95 my cores reached a maximum of 49ºC mesured with REALTEMP (I´m on aircooling with TUNIQ TOWER)
I shut down and restarted several times and everything was just fine, no freezes no BSOD!
I will post some screenshots later...

NOTE - My memory (Cellshock BLUE 1866MHZ) or mobo are very sensitive to memory voltage settings!!! Going below 1.86 to 1.80 result in errors during post saying files are missing or corrupt(no matter how many times i restart!!). Raising the voltage from 1,86v to 1,90v results in BSOD during post!! (no matter how many times i restart!!)

M@G!C - Thank you very much for taking the time to post those settings, much appreciated! I just realized your running the new CellShocks, I assume your happy with them? I must say I'm very curious as to why your having such sensitivity to the VDIMM settings, doesn't make much sense to me? Last but not least your QX9650 seems to be fine running half-multipliers, I haven't tried that myself yet because I thought it wouldn't work great for some reason, I'm glad to see its alright to run them!

Tyke - I have the exact same results when running Prime, its always Core0, but not sure why? At the moment I'm running all GTL's at Auto (but I'm only testing at FSB1800Mhz so not really needed yet. I stronly think that FSB2000Mhz will be possible (especially on the QX770), it will just be a case of finding correct GTL's and voltage levels for everything (at least I'm hoping that will be the case)! Last but not least I take it that BIOS 0603 has been the best for you so far? Although I tried it for a few hours I quickly went back to 0511 but I'm seriously considering trying it out again and give it some more time.

Hope everyones significant others are having good Mothers Days!

You dont have to thank Roger_D25
I´m very happy with my Cellshocks and i´m pretty shure that they can run stable at higher speeds but i´m looking for a setting for 24/7 usage so i´m more than happy running them at 1800Mhz and 7-7-7-18 1T timmings.

I know it doesn´t make sense ,but in fact ,it was what happened to me! I was running 1400QDR and memory at 1800Mhz 1,86v everything was stable. Then just to check i dropped de VDIMM to 1,80v tried to boot several times with no sucess, always saying files are missing or corrupt.(i´ve tried to boot for about 10 times and always same message). Then i raised the VDIMM to 1,90v and when i tried to load windows it gave me BSOD the several times i´ve tried. Then again on 1,86v VDIMM and everything stable again.
Yeah.. i now its odd ...

I finally got core 1 sorted, then core 4 failed.
GTL settings seem to be the answer here. Currently Priming with VTT on Auto, and -41 on GTL, been OK for an hour! Must admit, haven't played around with the different bios files. Currently running 9 x 450MHz. Also I'm not sure this board likes OCZ memory, I can't get anything higher than 1800MHz with my 2000MHz rated memory, even if I just use two sticks. I'm disappointed that I can't even get this board to post properly at 2000FSB, strange that in the reviews they seem to be able to do this no problem - prolly a hand-picked board!! Gonna have a play around today and see what happens.
    Regards

Fully correct , except it was WinxP, I had the bench OS on the raptor from the 780i test... I hooked up my old Striker (680i) and it booted fine, OC'ed it, ran OCCT for hours, gamed on it, no hangups, BSOD's whatever... Only thing that was annoying for my girlie was the english version of XP was on the drive.. so I told her I was going to put the Dutch version on it... Install stated nicely but gave some errors during the copying of files...( file unable to read etc...) dropping to a lower clock resolved that... (I tried swapping DVD drive, other WinXP cd)...

the decompression of files can really be harsh on a not 100% stable machine, though OCCT and co didn't crash at all...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
