Official DFI LanParty UT X38-T2R(and LT) Discussion/Review/Overclock/Guide Thread

Hi everyone,

Since this is my first post I want to say how much I have enjoyed reading your forums, they have helped me tremendously. Last time I built a computer overclocking was basically just hitting the turbo button on my 486, so catching up with todays technology in the last month or two has been quite the task (a lot easier thanks to you guys).

Anyways, I was hoping you guys could help me out with some questions about overclocking my new build (this will be my first overclock, so I'm a noob and need to be initiated). I'm using the DFI x38-T2R along with a Q6700 G0 cpu and the G.Skill PC8000 2x2gb kit for ram. Right now my temps on smartguardian at idle are about cpu: high 20s - low 30s, system: mid to high 40s, chipset: high 30s-low 40s. I was wondering if these are ok temps. I'm using HR-05 SLI/IFX w/ 80mm Noctua on the NB, SLF-1 on the SB, and Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with S-Flex F fan for cooling (S-Flex F fans for case fans as well (x3) in the rocketfish full tower case). I also have a 60mm delta rigged to blow on the stock PWM cooler. I was hoping that the temps would be cooler but it could be due to me living in arizona and not currently using the A/C. Also, what are the max safe temps for the mobo, cpu, and ram for 24/7 use? I have heard conflicting answers so I'm still unclear even after reading the forums.

Anyways, I'm going to start my first attempt at overclocking (something modest like say 3.4 ghz), so any other tips etc. would be appreciated. I have been reading quite a lot lately but am still a little nervous .

to start you should replace all the goop on the sb n pwm heatsink with mx2
make sure the pwm heatsink is 1000% flat me i lapped mine
set cpu v@ 1.4 vtt@1.4 nb @ 1.35-1.4 vdim 2.05
gtl on auto
your memory needs trfc of 48-52
my temps averaged 35c pwm+nb but most here average 45c
thats a start read up on glt settings if you wanna go higher

just want to ask bios for DFI lp lt x38 that good for running the memory with tight timing....

i have problem, i'm currently using crucial ballistix tracer 2x1gb 8500 and i pulled it to ddr 600 freq with cl 4-4-4-12, but somehow i still can't get it, even i've give it max vdimm 3.040, do my ram stupid also i kinda confused with vdimm on my board, i give 3.040 in bios but under windows it's detect 2.95, is it the vdroop in my board that bad

at that voltage it wont be exact lol
you expectin to run 2.4v+ n not damage your ram
i got so many spares n i dont do that lol

i already test it, and so far no error...

maybe i got wrong on latency...can u give me a help for latency setting that can fix my probs, especially "others settings" on memset

my ballistix need only 2.09v for 1200mhz try trfc 28 for 24/7 its more than enough
@500fsb use 333/800 divider
if you want best memory performace its 500fsb+ latency 48-50 no need to push your ram till it fries
dont leave auto in bios
set more aggressive

should be its the same chip
always good to measure gtl volts its more needed for quads duals are more forgiving
eva2000 did you test max fsb yet for the board?

Very tricky testing QX9650 max FSB on DFI, guessing GTL ref values wasn't good enough, so had to get out the DMM to measure - then will test for max FSB

Measurements read from Clunks' photos read points from DFI provided info.

So far these are the measurements I've done for my DFI LT X38-T2R R.A03 revision board with 3/14 official bios and Made in Taiwan PCB. Of interest is seeing what the default GTL Ref volts are when the GTL Ref options are disabled - they default to approximately, 63%, 63% and 67% respectively.

a local freind who also recieved a china mobo (he also has the taiwan mobo he took out of his other system and when that one is plugged into this system it boots right up..) is having all kinds of issues with it. so we tried my china mobo and it also will not boot. his taiwan one runs fine though wtf??? any ideas or suggestions?? we have swapped them out 4 or 5 times now and the only one that will boot is the taiwan one?? sucks i got this china made crap one also arghhhhhh. i hope it doesnt give me issues now

good for you eva! i've always had my eyes on the that board ever since it came out during the CeBit...but might not be for me since i only use a single-card solution. will DFI release a P45?

got my dk x38 in. Installed vista x64 and decided to follow DFI's instructions with winflash. Started flashing and winflashed crashed!!!!! Reboot with a USB bootable flashed handy and it won't boot anymore. Error C1. Now I must RMA. Thanks dfi.

i woulda never used winflash on vista64
goto ebay "biosdepot" for 10$ get a new chip much faster
then hotflash your old chip you will have a spare

i'm gonna put on my moded ifx n see maybe its the board

i put on the accelero s1 on my 8800gt n got 15c drop on core and memory

yup i like the green side lol wife says i change hardware like underwear lol

playin crysis @ 55fps is nice

yes pressure is good with some moding the zalman700 fit perfectly but not happy with 40c touching the zalman feels way too hot

the xtra ati heatsink from the accelero s1 covering the cpl chips thermaltape+a screw had to cut it ,it was too long

i went to 510 fsb real quick gonna need some tweaking 2.06v for my ballistix

What error code? Wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt like the ram you are using, did you guys try with different chips?

What volts do you use on that NB O_O. That zalman cooler looks nice mounted there tho :p
