    Asus P5K Premium SATA problems

I just got a Asus P5K premium Black Pearl edition, but I cant get it to work together with my raptor x hard drive. I know that the hard drive is fine, because it works with every other motherboard I have. When I start up the computer I get this message: " Detect drives, no any drives found". After this (before entering the bios) I get "No IDE Master H.D.D. Detected!"

When I try to boot from HD I get "error loading operative system". I first tried booting from a cd installing the OS on the harddrive, but I got the same messages every time. Then I tried installing the OS on the raptor x drive using another computer, and then boot from it on the P5K, but that didnt work either. I have flashed to the latest bios, I have tried every setting in the bios under the "Sata configuration" - section, but it wont boot no mather what I do it seems.

I can find the raptor drive in the list of sata devices in the bios, and I can boot from a IDE harddrive. When I use a IDE drive to boot from, I can find the raptor disc from the start menu in windows, and it works perfectly.

Have anybody had any similar problems? What do I have to do to fix it?

Some revisions of that board have problems with raptor drivers (and others), I had one that would pretty much only work with Seagate drives, I had to RMA the board for another issue and the one Asus sent me works fine with my Raptor as long as I set it to "IDE Mode" in the bios, I never tried to run it in AHCI mode because raptors are SATA and not SATA II, double check and make sure you have the SATA mode set to IDE and give it a shot, if that dosent work you can always try to get Asus to RMA the board for you, it is a great board once you get the drive problems worked out.

Thanks, I deilvered the board back to the shop where i bought it and told them about their problems. I got the board back with a message saying that it was nothing wrong, and this costed me 65 dollars.

Simply because I live in Norway (which is not exactly the center of the world), I don't want to deliver it back to Asus for an RMA. I have heard that it will take weeks from here...

I have tried it in IDE mode, that is the default setting. I was thinking about a updata for the sata drivers, but that didnt help me much. I have had a problem with the vista installation on all my pcs: It skips copying files and moves right to extracting files. In order to make it work I have to install XP first an then install vista from xp. The problem is that I can't install the SATA drivers from a CD from the xp installation menu (pressing F6 in the beginning of the process).

I really have no idea what to do. I am also waitong for a striker extreme board to come back from RMA, but I would prefer to use the P5K premium because it is a FAAAAR better overclocker (q6600 b3 and OCZ Reaper 8500)

Uh, you paid a shop 65 dollars to tell you there's nothing wrong with it? Did you bring the raptor and ask them to use that? Man, no way I would have paid some douchebag to basically lie to me.

Jepp, the prices in Norway is insane :-S I have let them test the raptor aswell, but they just deliveredt htat back as well. When I delivered the P%K, I specifically told the to test it with a raptor disc, and they even wrote that on the note to the technician. However, i dont think they did that....

Beginnng to get sick of this motherboard. I really hope that somebody can help me getting this computer working.

What BIOS? Have you tried flashing it?

I would call that shop back and ask for the manager, and make sure they know you are mad. Explain the situation and ask for a refund of at the very least your 65 dollars.

I know the people there very well (have bought a lot from them), so I'll have to talk to them later this week if things doesnt work out.

First I tried the bios that came with the board. Then I flashed to 0504. That didnt help, so I tried 0612. That didn't help either, so I'm kind of hoping for a new bios. But the last one was released only a couple of weeks ago, so my expectations are low:-(

Hopeless that there is are so many problems with this board...

I soon discovered that I had tried the RAID mode earlier. When I use that setting, the computer wont get past the bios post screen without me pressing the delete-key, and if I press the delete-key I get stuck at "entering setup". So obviously that didnt work to well for me. I had to use the cmos jumper to be able to enter the bios again

I think I'm going to sell the board too, if no one comes up with a good answer during the day.

Why do you insist finding an answer?
The SATA problems are well documented on early revisions, and you can't solve them. They concern all new WD and SAMSUNG SATA2 drives. Seagate and Hitashi are ok

Look at your serial number on the outside of box, if it is 77xxxx... format or before, you're stuck.
Only 78xxx and later are ok

I dont insist finding an answer, am I'm just desperately hoping :-P

But I got my striker extreme back from RMA, so that has to work for now. The P5K is going back to the shop.

You're wrong. My board starts with a 76xxx serial, and has no SATA issues. I've run Seagates and Western Digital SATA 3.0 drives in multiple RAID configs, no problems.

    So, you're lucky
Many 77xxx boards are broken, but some were described ok. Most 66xx reported on ASUS forum are broken

Maybe I expressed it wrong (sorry for my english). I meant: you can't hope for a solution but RMA the board and ask the shop to give you back the money they stole (it is really a well known defect even if ASUS never officially recognised it, but on the other side, they accept RMA for that reason )

I must be lucky too then cos mines a 76xx with mixed blue and red capacitors. Many users with earler revisions of the MB reported problems with RAID/AHCI but not all of them - There are still many others running okay with RAID - me being one of them
That said the MB that is the subject of this thread need to be RMA'd without a doubt - that issue isnt going to go away - so dont delay - back to asus it goes Dont take any crap from the vendor - I would also ask for the money back for previous test as they failed to advise you correctly. Asus will refund as it is a well known problem - except by the norwegian vendor it seems.!

I have a 78XX board and I am running into the same problems as well. Has anyone found RMAing the board to be of any help?

Actually my P5K premium has serial 76M0ACV0xxx & works fine with 4 x WD32000AAKS (B3) hdd's. I've only tried in RAID0 & not single drive. Getting pretty good speeds too. See below for results.
