    youre welcome

unfortunately just 7 x 120MB/s ssd @ 840MB/s just about maxes out on the iop341

    8x = 960MB/s

so for 8x ssd you'll need better than iop341 controller

The 1280ML has an additional 3 more connectors. You can see the spots on that board where the other connectors are left off.

1231ML has space for 12 drives (3x Multi connectors), while the 1280ML has space for 24 drives (6x Multi connectors).

It seems to be a labeling problem with Areca.
    aahhh, I see now hehe

Yup you are right I believe. I will be capping out this card. It was tested yesterday and came pretty darn close to those numbers.

They ran into that here also
    http://www.nextlevelhardware.com/storage/battleship/

I am not sure at this time what other card can be used to go past that cap. I must do more research. I know the RamSans use a fiber setup, hmmm...

Perhaps this, but I doubt it will work with the SSD's, or at least the ones I have.

let me rephrase this: so for 8x ssd you'll need better than iop341 800MHz controller

    either a dual-iop341 800MHz (iop342) or ~1.2GHz iop342

    or iop341 1.2GHz

highpoint 3520 retail box shows 1.2GHz yet they state 800MHz.. dont know which iop341 it carries.. ive emailed hpt but no response yet..

areca is supposed to release 1.2ghz controllers but when? theyre slower than a donkey

sure adaptec will have 1.2GHz part/s aswell

    others too

bunch of peeps waiting on the 1.2GHz

This is projected stats as tested. I was told this will copy a full DVD ISO in something like 5 seconds.

    ^ 8x ?

    depends on the source/destination

    heres areca d: (4x raptor 100% GB) to areca c: (4x raptor 100% GB) @ 300MB/s read 300MB/s write

so in order to copy a dvd in 5 sec you need a second areca+8x ssd

that would take 9 sec for the dvd above vs 20

    HAHA sorry Nap

The new Raid has been tested, not by me, not yet anyway It is currently being shipped to me and I should have it on Thursday.

I wanted to make sure everything was in order with this raid before it was sent to me, I did have a problem with the first raid card and 2 SSD's, and that ended up with it being sent back. After it was recieved I upped the SSD count and had them fully test that whole setup before it was shipped back to me. That is the pic I posted of the results.

Turned out that the problem was with the raid card and not the SSD's. I did have the 2 SSD's running on my EVGA 790i Ultra's raid and it worked great, very fast ! In fact it ran so well that I decided to up the SSD count to full 8x for the Extreme effect

    Nice hardware!

The new Areca's are shipping now (ARC-1680ix-8,12,16,24) with the 1200Mhz IOP348. Should break the throughput cap from the 1280ml that Dominick experienced

    http://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_controllers/

Anyone want to buy and test it out?

    Nice find there !
Checking on that now to see if that would be a improvement.

    Update:
The 1680 has been tested and it actually has same write speed but lower read speed. It is actually geared more for SAS.

How can the 1231 be OC'd as it is the current speed champ as far as I have been told.
<looks for a phase cooler setup for the 1231 and OC tools>

Are you sure it wasn't the old 1680ml tested, not the new 1680ix?

Nice .gif Buckeye, but even nicer hardware

    That's like $10K right there

Is this for "fun"? or a work related endeavour?

I am a newb in this ARC Raid setup stuff, it’s my first time

Ok so setting up the Raid 0 in the ARC-1231ML. It see all SSD’s with status of RTR (Ready To Rock !), except for the last drive which is labeled Hot Spare ?
So in building the Raid 0 it only shows 7 SSD’s.

Is there any way to get rid of the Hot Spare so that I can see all 8 SSD’s in Raid 0 ?
I see that there is a Delete Hot Spare option, should I do that ?

I do go ahead and install a system on the 7 drives, that went well and it is up and running. Very, Very fast ! After the Raid card initializes you see the vista loading bar and it goes just over 1 full time across the bar, then vista logo and bam desktop.

All in all its about 8 seconds

No further testing or installing chipset drivers etc., until I can see if I can get all 8 SSD's in Raid 0.

    Hey Nap

I did try the delete Hot Spare and get the Buzzer going off that doesnt seem to want to stop.

    Reset everything and try again

It seems that a SATA plug on one of the Multi's labeled P1 is the problem.

If I unplug that one and move it around to different SSD's the Hot Spare issue follows that cable labeled P1.

Tried only using 1 Multi and 4 SSD's:
1 Multi and 4 SSD's plugged in and all is fine.
2nd Multi and 4 SSD's and Hot Spare issue.
