well my super talent project x 2000mhz 9-9-9-28 ram arrived this morning, ram voltage is set to 1.50 in bios about 1.55 real and ive been priming for about 4 & 1/2 hours now with no lockups, seems my striker II really hates running stable with ocz ram wonder if this can be fixed with a bios update in the future? in any case im going to stop at 12 hours of priming and then finally find out what this Q9450 and this chipset are capable of.

Two weeks ago(I haven't touched it from that time) I was web surfing for the 3ed day in a row at -30c. Then the machine just shut down.

When I go to turn it one it comes on for 1 sec then turns off. I have reset the bios on it, removed the memory. Noting has helped. I need to remove everything and try another cooler on it.

I just don't want to think about that board being fried when I voided the warranty on day one. The QX9650 I have I know I could RMA if that turns out to be the problem.

I could almost cry when thinking about this.

Now I have a odd problem with this board. It always wants to install a mouse that isn't plugged into the board. I think it's trying to install the PS/2 port. I have to uninstall it for the error message to go away every time it starts up. It drives me nuts. Has anyone else seen this issue in windows XO?

i ran some quick tests but no stress testing yet so i dont know if any of these are stable but i took some screenshots of the read/write speeds with P1 & P2 Enabled/Disabled at 3.6ghz 1800QDR/RAM and 3.7GHZ 1850QDR/RAM.

    P1 & P2 Disabled 3.6ghz 1800QDR/RAM

    P1 & P2 Enabled 3.6ghz 1800QDR/RAM

    P1 & P2 Disabled 3.7ghz 1850QDR/RAM

    P1 & P2 Enabled 3.7ghz 1850QDR/RAM

so far i havent been able to get 3.8ghz to load windows properly it always bsod's with nv4_disp error i tried upping the nb voltage but it did the same again. just got to do some more tweaking i suppose. ive been able to get my chip to post at 4ghz but it always freezes.

Its so sad to read through this thread (just read the whole thing)! And of course my Striker II Extreme just got delivered a couple days ago (argg....)! At the moment I'm running BIOS version 0511 (BIOS that came flashed on board) and at stock settings (clockspeeds that is) everything works great!

But as soon as increase the FSB (to anything over 1333Mhz) and restart nothing happens except the following message on my LCD Poster "CODEINIT". And of course that is not listed in my users manual so I have no idea what it means?

Oddly I can increase the RAM speed without much trouble but can't touch the FSB unfortunately. I'm hesitant to change my BIOS as results seem to be very mixed with all other BIOS versions (0508, 0601, 0512, 0602, and 0603)? I do understand this motherbaord is quite new and the BIOS is not matured yet but its still frustrating.

In anycase I'm goiing to keep at it and hope for the best. If by some miricle somebody knows what "CODEINIT" means please share! Also good luck to everyone else having problems trying to get this board stable at any combination of settings!

Roger, I would say that you should upgrade to BIOS 0603 and try it out.

tekjunkie, I really like your testing, please keep us updated with your eXPeriences!

I suppose its worth a shot right. By the way have people been able to backflash from newer BIOS to older BIOS (just incase 0603 is dissapointing)?

Well i will post here what is happening with me. Fisrt i have to tell that i´m not an EXPERT overclocker.
I have a S2E ,and with all the BIOS i´ve tried till now (402,508 and 601), i wasn´t able to do much in overclocking. Just cant go higher than 1333 Mhz in FSB on my QX9650 without BSOD, frezes etc. My 1866MHZ Cellshock memory could only run at 2T, if i try 1T it just frezes or give a BSOD. I was able to boot windows with memory at 1800 Mhz but strange artifacts where apearing on screen, no freezes no BSOD just artifacts on screen.
Today i´ve flashed the new 0603 BIOS and the results where a litle better...
I now can boot my QX9650 at 1400FSB at 10.5 multiplier running at 3675Mhz.
My Cellshock memory is now running at 1800Mhz 8-8-8-16 at 1T with no frezes, BSOD or artifacts on screen.
My settings are: Vcore 1.25v Vdimm 1.84v the rest in everything on AUTO.

Very interesting M@G!C, you had the same exact problem as me (not being able to change the FSB to anything other than 1333Mhz)? I truly wonder what the heck is causing that because others with same BIOS can use other FSB settings? I'm going to stop whinning and just flash the darn motherboard, lol to 0603 and see what happens!

By the way (both nuclearjock and M@G!C) what methods did you guys use to flash motherboards? Since I'm currenlty on 0511 I'm hoping I can get away with using Asus EZ Flash or Auto Update? Thanks for the help

Roger D5, i´ve used AWDFlash to flash the BIOS since EZflash doesn´t work.
You will have to put the 0603 BIOS on a floppy and then use the AWDflash utlity that comes with your motherboard CD.
I know that what i have achieved is not much, but at least, i´m running my memory at 1800Mhz at 1T as it was supossed to be.
I think that overcloking de CPU FSB is possible, but there is an insane amount of tweaking to be done... ( including GTL´s) and is just not for me.
I will wait for more mature BIOS from ASUS, but if by then, i will not be able to overclock my QX9650 FSB, then bye bye S2E and welcome X48 based motherboard.

P.S - I really apreciate STABILITY on a system, that´s the more important to me, and with S2E it seems an impossible thing to get....

Well my Asus Striker II Extreme finally gave up on me today... I only had 3 days left on this board through the Egg or I would have had to send it for a RMA through Asus . The girl asked me if I would like a REFUND or a RETURN. I said how about a FULL REFUND no restocking fee. She said no problem send it back to us and we will give you a full credit.. Not to bag on this S2E but I am no that impressed coming from a eVGA 680i other then the DDR3 and the boards layout is great. I hope things improve for you all I will be moving over to a x38/x48 board to try out. See attached pictures of my problem I got about 2 hours ago when I turned on my board. And yes I changed out 3 GPU's, 2 CPU's, 2 PSU, and original 2 x Raptors 150 raid -0- with one Raptor in Windows same thing... I plugged in my old setup and it is not my monitor.. So it is the mobo for sure.. Good Luck all if things turn around here I will be back for sure...

According to pmp's changelog, 0511 is exactly the samething as 0603 (uses same NVMM) just fixes an extra bug, what happened to you? Was 0603 worse enough to change back? or was it just the same?

Omg, dont tell me Im going to be alone if I get problems with my SIIE
Well Im glad you got a refund because newegg policies dont accept refunds on that item. What about you give Rampage Formula a try?
BTW, Im really sorry that you giving up this board. Hopefully I will see how good and bad this board is and I will do my best to have it as estable as I can.

Before I forget, same question as M@G!C, what board you are planning to get?

ASUS P5E3 PREMIUM (x48) & MAXIMUS EXTREME (x38) or the FOXCONN BLACKOPS Intel X48 if I can find it.

And Slim142 I would upgrade to a e8400 CPU I think you will have less problems with your OCing. I will be staying on this Forum..

I have been following this thread for weeks waiting to have my account activated so I could post...so frustrating.

I'm having serious issues with this OCZ 1600EB 2x2GB RAM with both sticks installed. If I overclock at all I get hard disk corruption after 3 or 4 boots and I have to re-load the OS from a complete back-up. It makes it impossible to test any settings to get overclocking.

Just getting this ram to load windows without BSOD required me to install the Vista 64/SP1 with only one stick ram installed.

I say OCZ and ASUS 790i are BAD combo anyway you slice it. I'm on 0603 right now.

Well I actually got some good news, I was finally able to increase FSB speed beyond 1333Mhz (finally)! I'm not exactly sure what the problem was but I started using odd numbers with the FSB instead of even numbers. For example I was initially trying FSB speeds like 1400Mhz, 1500Mhz, and 1600Mhz with no luck what-so-ever. For some reason I decided to try a FSB speed of 1605Mhz and bingo, everything is working perfectly! I can use unlocked or locked & synced and they both work fine now! I haven't had time to do any stability testing but I'm going to fire up Orthos (Blend or Large-FFT's) overnight (fingers crossed)! At the moment I'm only using my E8400 but once I get this chip stable at a few decent settings I'll install my QX9770 and really start to push it!

Up until a just a few hours ago I was very disappointed and was seriously considering the sale of this board (at a huge loss I'm sure cause nobody wants this board with all the bad results going around). Like a few others here I was sure I wanted to pick up a newer DDR3 X48 motherboard but given this small victory I just had I'm going to stick with it a bit longer, now I'm actually hopeful! Heck I'm even optimistic, sooner or later this stuff will get worked out (either through some BIOS updates or a hardware revision). Then again maybe not but if that is the case there will be many pi**ed off customers, lol! After reading this last page of posts it doesn't look like many people will be posting here anymore, lol!

I wish my luck was like yours. I can't clock it over 1333 at all.

    I run a

    Q6600
    Corsair XMS3 CM3X1024-1333C9DHX 2Gig
    9800 GTX SLI

Firsly I get almost instant lockups in SLI. Sometimes I get lucky and it runs for 10 minutes (in game). I get random lockups in non SLI in game

Right now it's sort of stable in non SLI mode.

I run the ram at 1.8V and the PCI at 110 mhz. Everything else is stock , except CPU level up, that runs and I run it at 3.0ghz. I tried playing with the VTT and GTRlrefs but that just made things worse.

I'm hope it's a Vid Driver and BIOS issue, cause crashing 10+ times a day kinda sucks ass.

Yeah I would also suggestion BIOS version 0511 as I tried 0603 earlier and was not impressed (granted I could have given it more time but I went back to 0511). Also I would suggest manually adjusting the BIOS settings instead of using the "CPU Level Up" options (although that setting may work I would start by just manually going in and selecting the settings you want to use). Plus doing it that way will allow you to try more options and maybe get more stable than you are. I hate to say it but I would also stick with a single GPU for now, just until your able to get things up and running without problems, unfortunately your not the only one having SLI issues! I apologize if you have already tried manually going through BIOS without any luck and that is why your using the "CPU Level Up" option instead. Also make sure to try different combinations of settings even if they result in the same overall clockspeeds (like locked, unlocked, different dividers, etc..). At least that is how I fianlly got things up and running somewhat.

I should also add that I just gamed for about an hour (first time playing a game since getting this motherboard) and I had zero problems. No freezing or glitching (Yet anyway)! Being able to game without issues is another plus in favor of this board for me (going from wanting to sell to being pretty impressed is awesome)! To be honest however I'm just waiting for things to start going downhill again anytime, I have a feeling that even though I'm running pretty stable now (able to game, browse internet, run some 2d benchies, etc..) as soon as I fire up Orthose (Prime) its going to fail right off (that would suck)! I will update thread later tonight before I hit the sack about stability. Good luck guys, just keep at it!

I am now using 0603. The stablity is getting better from 0511 to 0603. Sometimes with 0511, I don't even get a POST with some specific BIOS settings, which used to boot into windows. It sometimes happens with 0603 but very rare, where it gets stuck on "PCI Init". Also, I was loosing my LAN connection in windows in 0511 and 0512. 0601 fixed it. 0601 was where it started getting better. But 0603 gave back the memory performance like 0511without P1 and P2, which 0512 and 0601 were missing.
