It looks like you get almost the same memory bandwidth expect gaining maybe a tad on copy. I don't know about the stability though. Will have to test more.

Since P1 is the one that gives the Bandwidth, I will now try to prime with P1 Enabled and P2 on Auto. Will post back

Hey guys. Just got my 790i running with some cellshock 1866 ram. Everything was wroking fine except the ram running at a very slow speed.

I tried updating my bios to PO4 and received an error message. When I rebooted, my error checker is now stuck at FF. It doesn't cycle and the board won't boot? Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I am pulling my hair out over this Distorted Audio With this board.. I am starting to think its because I am running RAID 0..

Maybe using a 3rd party raid card is better? anyone having this issue?

I've been again and again through the threads about 790i Ultra SLI in this forum, reading again and again those stories about data corruption, which I absolutely believe. Also it seems that some settings working for some don't work for others on similar hardware configs, which obviously means that at least the Asus Striker II does not have a regular production in terms of quality, results, performance, a real nightmare

Now the other thing and the reason why I post now is that I've been already thinking about these EPP 2.0 sli certified RAM modules, supposed to be the only ones fully compatible with the Striker II Extreme, and unfortunately unavailable until...well a few minutes ago according to the link provided by "QuadSLI". So I'm asking the question again: could the use of non-EPP2.O ram modules be actually responsible for data corruption issues, bsod etc...with the SIIE ? I'm not saying that it's the case, just looking for opinions.

I'm planning to build a new rig in a few weeks from now, based on SIIE, but after what I've read, I'm almost ready to either give up SLI for single NVidia, or even CrossFire (depending on what ATI will do in may-june) and run a 100% Intel mainboard.

off topic: I also read that Intel will probably stop giving NVidia any license by the end of this year, when the Nehalem and the new chipsets/sockets come out. Finally!!! as that will most likely force NVidia to give away SLI for Intel chipset mobos.

sounds like the bios is corrupted, did you try to reset it?
i guess whatever fsb/mem combo you tried wasnt stable, at least with the settings you used... :/

i dont think sli certifaction makes any difference whatsoever... sli memory = 2 things, tested by nvidia and EPP2.0 profile.
afaik nvidia certifies the memory on their own boards, not on asus gigabyte or other mfg boards. and EPP doesnt really make a difference compared to configuring the memory manually. for EPP 1.0 there was a drive strength setting etc, but for EPP 2.0 there is no additional setting that really changes anything, at least afaik...

EPP 2.O detection and profiles are part of the Asus SIIE bios, with NVidia chipset; so certified and usable on this Asus mobo. OK that's only about profiles, I was just wondering; could have no impact on all those fsb and ram issues experienced by users not running EPP 2.O ram. That was just a question.

What is EPP2.0 then, i think is the same like EPP2.0 on DDR3 (stored profiles)

PS. Striker II Ex BIOS 601 was deleted from Asus site (whats wrong is with this version?)

I've had this problem since the 680i with my x-fi (same with 790i now). You using an add-in card or the on-board? For x-fi cards, the issue has generally been around use of SLI. I've pretty much given up on creative, and now nvidia for the most part... just need to good x48 board to come along...

i find on 790i boards there indeed holes
eg 1600 mhz on cpu fsb is a hole on 0601 because I could not even get past the windows boot screen, however an 1800 FSB in sync mode alowed me to get past that and see a BSOd.

    Very odd results.

check the EPP 2.0 whitepapers, i didnt see any reference to drive strength in it...
there are long and short profiles, short are like a normal spd profile with vdimm and 1 or 2 chipset timings. long profiles have extra chipset/memory timings. for EPP 1.0 it included drive strength, for 2.0 there wasnt anything about drive strength at least iirc.

ok, let me try to answer your question as good as i can, but you should ask ocz since its their memory and only they know what profile exactly they use and how it affects the chipset.

but beeing optimistic, at best what the profile can do is configure the memory propperly at 2000mhz memory speed with the right combination of chipset and memory timings and voltages.

i dont see how trying different memory and fsb combinations which results in fsb holes would change if the memory has an epp profile...
so no, im 99% sure it wont affect the fsb holes at all.

hmmmm i had this problem too iirc... on an asrock kt266a board i used for a folding machine

i dont think i ever found a fix for it... it only happened when i oced the cpu/fsb to really high speeds... hmmm did you try changing the pciE speed?
did you try different slots for the soundcard?

thanks for your post. I actually thought the same. It's just that since NVidia and Asus are keeping so desperately quiet (yeah, "we're agressively lookin' into it" ), I was wondering what hadn't been tried yet. But yes, it's definitely the chipset that's responsible for all the trouble.

For people interested on this EPP 2.0 and love OCZ memory I would go for this one
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10008353

    EPP 2.0
Runs @ 2000Mhz at 9-9-9-24.... but runs at 9-8-8-24 when paired with an 790i

Only disavantage is 2Gbs I believe but they must be some nice chips since they do all of this with only 2.0v

Unfortunately I already have my G.Skill... but once is time to upgrade to 2x2Gb, I will go OCZ to try them out

    deja vu

I've been away for about 6 months and come back to read more nforce horror stories in this thread (just read the last few pages). This 790 is really reminding me of my horrible 680i experiences when it was first launched. This is so disappointing because because like most of the rest of you, I want SLI. Damn you nvidia. Let intel make the chipsets and you just concentrate on GPUs.

If you guys had it to do over, would you go with 680 780 or 790? Or are you feeling like me and thinking about going intel and crossfire.....

Glad to see you all again. Well off to read some more. Its time for a new system. I sold all of my sig stuff and put it into a reef tank. Time to start over!

I hope Intel doesnt give NVIDIA its license for QuickPath that way NVIDIA will have nothing to offer but its SLI license.

NVIDIA gets basically all their profits from gfx, not from motherboards...
