I could not boot into windows at all, no safe mode and no system restore. However, by googling the solution I found this:

    1. boot from a Windows CD and go for the repair option.
    2. Copy gdi32.dll from c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\gdi32.dll to c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll.

It worked like a charm, but I was so close to having to reformat. Why does this happen to only some people, anyone know?
Do you have an OEM version of XP (from another computer, internet, etc)?

Those who have access to demonoid there is an xp sp3 build there that is the real deal and the download speed is super fast. Look for the entry with '-WZT' at the end.

Just to save you guys some trouble if anyone with a VLK (corp edition) of XP plans to slipstream SP3 onto a CD. Don't do it on a vista machine, use an XP based machine!! It will make your VLK keys not work. Took me 2 days of headaches to figure out why it wouldn't take my valid key.

Yes, it is an OEM which my GF got years back with her MDG PC. However, I slipstreamed SP2 with it and burned it on another CD. How would OEM make a difference?

Does anyone thinks microsoft will release XP SP3 CD's to vendors? that would be nice if they do that, it would include tons of updates, hot fixes, etc since SP2 has rolled out.. I know Egg has XP SP2 CD's .. but was wondering if there is any chance of XP SP3 CD's rolling out?

why not create a XP SP3 cd yourself?

you need nothing but the original XP cd and the desired service pack. it's called slipstreaming and while searching for slipstream on google you'll find more than enough tutorials on how to do it.
nlite for example is a programm that is able to include service packs in the windows installation cd.

He can take his current version, if it's normal surely. nLite will suggest to remove all previous hotfixes and updates, make a clean install.

so your user name is Igor?
hehe random, maybe i just used it for given pack.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Web (RTW) Delayed

    In http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...2170&SiteID=17

In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web.

To help protect customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to the web.

We are also testing a fix, and will make it available once that process is complete. Once they have installed the fix, Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers should be able to run both service packs.

Until then, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack. Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers running Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1 should contact Microsoft Customer Support Services for additional information.

Dammit, i just slipstreamed SP3 into the XP disc!, that new nlite is awesome...makes everything just easy and clickable. From slipstreaming to embedded burning software to ISO creation...it's all a breeze!

Be warned, if you slipstream sp3 into your install, windows update will not correctly recognize it yet and give you the optional .net framework 3.0 download, at least for me. You will have to manually download it.

It just came through on automatic updates for me, though I haven't told it to download yet. Probably won't since I have to tear my system down soon so I can RMA my CPU.

Slipstreaming is the best way to patch I believe, I've always had issues with service packs not correctly installing in an "update".
