I'll settle this debate... I have a P5E-VM HDMI comingIf this one overclock better with the Q9450, I'll keep it there and reuse my golden Q6600 back on my MF board for some 3.8 GHz love.
just got myself x3350..
currently at 3.5ghz (440x8)
@bios:
1.175vcore
1.56 pll
1.3 vfsb
1.45 vnb
1.7 vdimm
other specs:
asus p5e3 premium
hyperX ddr3 1375 @ 1409mhz 7-7-7-24
gecube 3870
pc power n cooling
vista 32bit
Intel Core i7 870,
MSI P55 GD65,
4x 2048mb DDR3 1600 Corsair Dominator,
Sapphire 5870,
Corsair HX850W,
2x 640GB WD sata II,
1x 1TB WD Sata III,
But I think someone should figure out why the P5E-VM is working better. Is it something to do with that overcharging setting? Or is it just the G35 is running 45nm better?
The over-charging setting also appears in the BIOS of other ASUS boards (at least some of them), I believe. You can't even tweak the timings in the northbridge on the P5E-VM HDMI, and G35 has to handle the IGP so I don't know if it's the chipset? Could well be the chipset, though... since... uhhh... I don't see any other reason. But then that means the chipset can handle the IGP, high quad FSB, and high RAM timings all at once?
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 3.20GHz (1.07v vCore!)
RAM: 2GB Kingston HyperX 800MHz
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 4870 @ 780/1000 (default)
We did a comparative test Runaway with Everest the same settings... P5K Dlx was giving better bandwith numbers and lower latencies... (which prolly reflect in zero extra performance for day to day basis)
It's easier to get better clocks on a chipset with looser settings, recall 965 and 975 Chipsets... clock for clock 975 was superior, though high FSB was more easily achieved on the 965...
Just my 5 cents...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree

should the numbers be better if they were higher or lower?
X3350 3.9ghz @1.3875vcore in bios. Haven't tested for full stability yet. Thought about 4ghz, but not willing to go above 1.4vcore in bios. I will post screens when I get home later tonight. Its on a true Asus Rampage (X48) with bios 0219. Just did a quick prime run and it seems to be stable though.

Can you post your settings? Maybe it's worth picking up another P5K Premium again...

I'm not on the Premium. Bought a new board. Pretty much everything is on Auto since I have no clue what they mean or do.

Second Rampage board to get so far. Maybe it's not entirely hopeless.
As for what kind of voltages I need, stock on everything but northbridge volt, which is around 1.4-1.5 range for either 450 or 475. 1.6 for 500. vCore is in sig.
Edit: Oh yeah, RAM sticks are at 450MHz.

Which leads me to believe its all in the bios. The Rampage fully supports the chip out of the box, where as older boards simply have poor bios support.

Here is my q9450 results. I haven't dialed in any of the voltages yet and I haven't tried going higher. I dumped a GA-EX38-DS4 for a IP-35 Pro. Wow, I didn't realize how much Gigabyte sucks these days.

I have HDT-S1283 but I'm not sure I have it mounted too well as the heatpipes don't seem to warm up.
9800GTX arrived.
And... holy crud! Is it just me... or is the Antec Basiq 380W power supply (comes with the NSK3480) powerful enough to power that card, a quad-core processor at 3.8GHz, 4GB of RAM, and a bunch of fans?

Well, my bad. It was an Antec Earthwatt 380W PSU. :p And yeah, it can handle up to 3.8GHz and with the 9800GTX slightly overclocked. Anything above that would prove to be quite troublesome (a.k.a. unstable) so in the end, it works out pretty well, I guess. I'm out of my budget for a better PSU (since my college is asking back like half the total value of my PC for whatever reason) so this will do for now.

This is how far I am willing to push. If anyone wants to push this chip any farther, drop me a PM. THis is on a true Asus Rampage. Not sure why flashed RF doesn't oc as well, perhaps it just wasn't designed to be that way? Who knows. Rampage feels even more solid than my P5K Premium and the Rampage is on the shipping bios.
