I think it's more of an issue that some papers are very temperature sensitive and this one isn't, but I'm just guessing.
Received my film today...awaiting instructions.![]()

I just thought it would be good if had a paper you could apply heat to in case someone want to turn the pc on for heat mark pattern. Heat does change the physical size of objects and charateristics, a cold test might not give as accurate pattern imprint as a warm imprint.

Of course. I was just thinking a little deeper into it. I'm unsure how fast these chips heat up, even at idle. How would you know if it's not gonna overheat instantly, or if it didn't.. how would you know when it's reached a temp high enough, but without going overboard.
I'm not trying to throw your idea out if it seems that way.![]()
guess it's one of those things we'll never know till someone tries it, like with an old chip....................![]()

You have the paper on hand, what about an old rig?![]()
the only two rigs i have that have an ihs are my main one (new quad) and the wifey's opteron(no touchy that, lol). hmmm I might have an old pentium to try it on be interesting to see the pattern cold and one warm. I'll have to give that a try this weekend.

Pressurefilm Instructions
Key points
The test needs to come from a system that has been thermally tested with ICD7 I need to be able to relate the pressure test to a thermal result.
Ideally I would like tests from an equal number of +/- thermal results
Test is run cold - Cpu should be room temp
Take one donor and print and place the smooth sides to sink and IHS with the "frosted sides" facing each other, place on cpu and mount sink.
Note approximate room temp
Wait 10 min disassemble and place print in the sample envelope provided.- Do not seal! I want to scan each one before I send them out for processing.
Note heat sink and cpu on sample envelope. also note the number of your posted forum thermal result . Place samples in return envelope provided and return.
I only need a max of 2 per if you only want to do one thats fine. Extras are for any misfires or your own use if you want to check contact on you own
Thanks for your time and efforts
Andrew

hum good point. the reason I say that is because if it were not from the intel hole on my chip i wouldn't have been able to tell you on the two I posted on here what way they went. most boards hold the chip sideways where some hold the chip up and down. I would think you will get maybe the same imprison but different side. does that make since? for example take my images I scanned in. you see where the ihs hole is in both of them well the hole is in the top right of my chip so the images are sideways compared to my chip, My chip is sideways in this mobo.
I recieved the pressure film tests today. I'll be testing them tonight![]()
Main rig:
CPU: I7 920C0 @ 3.6Ghz (180*20)
Mobo: DFI UT X58 T3eH8
RAM: 12GB OCZ DDR3-1600 Platinum
GPU/LCD: GeForce GTX280 + GeForce 8600GTS (Quad LCDs)
Intel X25-M G2 80GB, 12TB storage
PSU/Case: Corsair AX850, Silverstone TJ07
THERMTRIP# is activated on most of the Intel chips. When my cooling was less than ideal last year on the farm, I had numerous visits from Mr Therm...When the signal is activated, it stops the CPU cold to prevent burning it up. I would be willing to give it a whirl on one of my machines if we think it would be useful.
I should think just marking pin 1 with a marker dot in the right corner would be useful and not spoil the film?
Regards,
Bob
I am trying to get a better handle on mounting hardware so I was looking at Fuggers post with the Koolance backplate (At least Fugger liked ICD7)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=183814
and I was particularly interested in the hole in the center obviously it would allow some Flex in the socket and I am sure it is there for a reason.
Then looking at the recent madshrimp review it looks like it does not help performance much at all.

Is this related to the O ring bowing the waterblock?

Here are my Pressure Film results:
Ambient Temp ~18C
All screws were turn all the way down as my previous testing for the IC Diamond 7.
Donor and Print together, rough side against the rough side of Print and Smooth side face up
Mount and After 10 minutes, Disassemble:
So you want me to sent the right side one back?
Edit: Remove first pic to avoid confusion.

the red imprinted one on the left
Looks like you have great contact all across most of the paper with good pressure to boot.
An example of why you use thermal grease. The polka dot pattern The dark dots are where you are making contact the white or unexposed space in between are where there is little or no contact. gives it that kind of "mottled" look

Andrew, I think you messed the 2 envellopes up. The actual pressure film (the left one on Bail_w's pictures) was in the donor envellope here as well![]()
