How come the Ultra X3 is not in the Tier 1 brands?
According to jonnyguru reviews it got better scores then some of the PCP&C and the silverstone ones.

Real Power Pro/M 750W and lower are good PSU's, similar to the iGreen, but updated a bit, the 850W and above are very high quality, built by Enhance.

Just one question, why is Delta rated Tier 4? I work in a computer shop and sell about 20 Delta ServerPower 650W power supplies a month. I have yet to see one fail, even in the hands of some extremely stupid people.
Plus the PSU is not modular, which is one thing i like.

Ahh.... you are in Hong Kong. Market's a bit different here. We only see good Delta's in Intel and Dell branded rack servers. Everything else we get is "meh" like the Deltas that come in HP's, Gateways and eMachines or are branded as "Antec EarthWatts".

The list has almost been abandoned for over a year with no updates to reflect new power supplies, changes in OEM builds for different brands, or anything else.

To put it in perspective.....the Enermax Liberty series is listed in the same tier as Seasonic/Corsair HX/PCP&C Silencer builds (all essentially the same power supply as Seasonic builds all of them and they're all almost identical internally)...... yet the failure rate of the Liberty line is terrible....much worse than anything from the aforementioned Seasonic builds.

While the Liberty line has good specs, there is more to a power supply's recommendation than just good specs....durability and reliability should also factor into that, something Enermax's Liberty line cannot claim to have much of.

As an example....a recent review (4-13-08) of the Enermax Liberty DXX 500W garnered this praise from Hardware Secrets:

To be completely honest we were somewhat disappointed with Enermax Liberty DXX 500 W, as we expected more from it.

....its efficiency was somewhat low, being below 80% if you pull more than 300 W from it.

This power supply uses a different design on its secondary, which showed to be not so good. Together with the decision of using a single-transistor forward design on the primary instead of the traditional two-transistor forward, the design used by this power supply proved not to be the best for efficiency.

Also almost all protections failed during our tests, showing that they are either disabled or configured with a value that is too high: this power supply didn’t survive our overload tests.

We know that average users won’t probably overload their units, but it is always nice to know that the power supply will turn off if an overloading situation occurs, instead of just burning.

However, when you think that both Corsair VX450W and Antec EarthWatts 500 W are cheaper and better products – both are internally the same power supply and can provide a far higher efficiency and have their protections working just fine – it makes no sense buying Enermax Liberty DXX 500 W today.

ps.....the Liberty DXX burned up in testing........the same testing environment that a Corsair 620HX went through with not a problem what so ever.

Now, I'm not saying all Liberty DXX's are problematic....the 1kw unit seems great, but to lump all Liberties under the Liberty umbrella and categorize them along with many others of known excellent quality just does this list no good for credibility.

Zalman is a Korean company, but the PSU's are not made in Korea.

The lower wattage units are FSP. The higher wattage units, like the 850, are Enhance.

Jonny, did you ever figure out what OEM makes the Silverstone OP650? I got bored the other night so I was reading the review for my power supply on your site, and you said Impervio wasn't it.

I wrote that review over a year ago and didn't know of Impervio back then.

Impervio is in fact that OEM. They use IS-Quasar's robotic facility to assemble their designs.

I have heard though that if IS-Quasar is behind on production that some of the units will be built by Etasis in a pinch.

So is all of that a good thing that it's assembled by robots? No human error is a good thing, no?

I guess your review shows that Impervio is a good OEM, but is the OP650 the only one made by Impervio?
