I have my northbridge watercooled, seems like common sense when the MCW30 northbridge block is only 25$ or so. Helped lower temps on my chip to around 30c with a terribly sloppy mounting job (put it on with hoses connected :X).

Newbie question here guys, apologies & feel free to laugh & point at the idiot:
I've just bought the LT version of this board this morning & have only just put it together. I had a small problem in that my OCZ RAM cooler was in the way of fitting my 8800GTX into PCI-E slot 1, I've now fitted the card into slot 3 which I believe is the other full width slot.
Never having had to do this before does anybody know of any issue's it could cause or am I fine using this as my primary & only graphics slot?
I've got a lot of reading to do on this forum so thanks in advance to all the people who're going to give me advice in the last 34 pages![]()

Cool, thanks for the photo Clunk, I'm assuming that I'll be fine then?
@ Jor3lBR: Briefly reading through the manual it seems that you'd never get an 8800GXT to fit into PCI-E 2. I think we're talking about the same slot anyway; the 4th physical slot down.

Yep, that's how I had it set up for most of the test in the review.
Great review it is too! So many different settings compared to my old Maximus Formula, I didnt know where to start to get to my 24/7 3.6GHz. You did me a big favour there!![]()

yeah thanks i did read threw ur guide , its good info . but the problem is this bios wont allow me to set it the previous stable settings. sometimes the settings could be more that 50 in difference. i tried setting them as close as possible but it just became even more unstable.
other thing is it was stable at 40. 200 etc very low settings. i increased fsb and used similiar settings. then it was unstable. now i started again and got to the same fsb and every setting was identical. but fine tune delay was stable at oposite settings ie 1246 311 etc. its weird that it can be stable at a low 40 or so then another time be stable at a high 1246? with the same fsb and volts and timings.
anyway im at 475/1140 again on occt but only for 2hours after that i get a 12v error which i heard is related to nb . so ill up my nb to 1.6 and see if that helps. i have my vtt at 1.553 i just couldnt get stability any lower.

High VTT:s could kill your CPU. 1.45v was the maximum amount, recommended by Intel engineers. More on that subject here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?p=2923870

thanks for the guide, makes it easier trying to work this stuff out when theres a guide. but i have to say, that it would be really good if manufacturers released there own guides with motherboards that are promoted as overclocking boards.
i know i would pay an xtra $100 for a detailed guide on how to get this thing stable. if i had to choose between paying an extra $100 or the stress of hearing that duck noise every night after two hours of occt and waiting to see if uping the nb worked. id choose paying the xtra money anyday.

hmm dude try messing with the NB GTL Setting.. like lower it for higher fsb..
and lower the vtt..
working great for me..
now running 1.15vtt for 500fsb.. 8x500..
will post in a minute
Proc: E8500 @ 500x8ghz 1.275v
Ram: Team Xtreem PC2-8500 CL5 4x1gb @ 1000mhz CL4-4-4-8 333/667 tRD 7
Half Way
Stable
The vtt /gtl and nb is rock solid..
will try to lower the vcore.. but afaik tested this proc on maximus and gigabyte p35dq6.. the vcore for 4ghz is 1.272v..

yeah 1/11 and above bios don't have manual exact clock fine delay values to the current/auto values but just set it a bit above or below.
While you haven't found your optimal values, it still illustrates that tuning clock fine delay can effect stability of your memory clocks. Just need to play with it more.
Another tip is swapping the memory modules around in same dimm slots as well and playing with optimal clock fine delay values

Wow, nice guides Clunk, this'll give me some reading to do before I slap it together on Friday.

hmm memset doesnt detect tRTP properly for this board.
everest reads the same as memset
set tRTP = 2 memset reading 4
set tRTP = 3 memset reading 5
set tRTP = 1 memset reading 6
FeLix hmm i tested it a few times..
memset and everest reading is wrong for this board
