I am unable to flash back to formula maximus. when I try it says error reading rom file. I have tryed using all the maximus Rom files but they do say the same thing to me.

I type in afudos /imf0907.rom /n /pbnc and also try afudos /imf0907.rom /pbnc /n and neither work. I am using the engineer version afudos 2.29es, it was linked to me by a forum member. So on the the jump drive I have 2 files, the rom and afudos anything else I should have? and yes it is a bootable jump drive.

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Hi, who is 'they', it is fair enough if the engineers state that crucial memory isn't compatible but it is confusing when crucial still advertise it as being ram that is a "guaranteed-compatible memory upgrade". Someone somewhere is telling porkies and getting us all confused but I am sure that Grnfinger is passing on the facts as he knows it...

I thought I read back when the x38 was released that pushing NBv past 1.60v resulted in lots of fried NB's. I've not gone past 1.61 NBv as I was worried about toasting it. I've recently set my Q6600 back to 400x9 as 450x8 would result in the Vista idle reboot. And it had primed for over 28 hours and OCCT for over 24 hours. Really fusterating. I think tonight I'll try giving the NB some more juice. I had my G.Skill's PC28000 2gb sticks running at 1080 and it was just flying. Back to 1066 and 400 FSB is just disappointing after running it for a week at 450fsb. How long has any of you pushed 1.65 NBv for?

Dude, you need to put a fan over the nb sink, or water cool it. x38 isnt very stable over 45-47C once overclock, and asus sink sucks no matter what their website/press releases say about the pin-fin.

i messed with my comp a little yesterday trying to see what it would do on air. i got it to boot up at 3.8x and load into windows. i have been playing some games with it on 3.6 and it would crash every once in a while when my room would get hot.. my room is facing the sun most the day. i tested with occt2.0 at 3.6 and my cpu statrted getting up there. so i shut it down at 65 c. i took the stock fan off the heat sink and glued a case fan on top of a empty case fan housing to give it a little room and glued it to the stock heat sink. then plugged the fan into case 3 fan plug and ran it at 100%. i ignored the cpu fan function. it droped the temp at idle a few degrees and quite a few under load. the stock fan would only run up to about 1700rpm and this one is running at 2700 rpm. so here is somthing that changed everything for me. i don't know what was causing this but since this board was new, i would get a double boot when i turned the computer on or restarted it after leaving bios. it would spin the fan shut off then power up. now it starts and restarts like a normal computer should every time and the only other thing i did was lock the sb volt at 1.5 instead of it being on auto. it runs at the same numbers as auto did but now i have no more double start?

on my MF board, i have a q6600 and a q9450, but the NB runs at 2.20-2.30 that it show in BIOS and shows in any windows app like everest, coretemp, etc. this is showing whether bios is set to all auto, some auto, or manual set; nothing makes a difference the NB keeps showing 2.20-2.30 but i dont know if thats a reporting bug or actual voltage crisis. this is with any bios from 0903 to 1004 and 1006, and with either cpu and either geil or corsair pc8500 memory..

should i just rma the board, or is there something do fix this, or can someone show me where to use a multimeter to check manually the voltage, since 2.2 on NB if true means my days would be numbered.

By the look of it you're spelling the filenames (or at least the bios names) with lower case when they are infact all upper case it most bios (especially the ones in this thread.

I figured it out, it was the rom file name that was the problem. once I altered it I got it all working.

I have also found a newer engineering verison of afudos if anyone wants it, it worked for me to go back to formula maximus

Lower or uppercase should make no difference.

It does with AFUDOS. I had the same problem at one point and uppercase fixed it.

the way I see it... if at all my ram dies on me now and its clearly stated somewhere by Crucial that the ram is not supported... that just leaves the option of getting my money back or getting better ram from them. which if they dont agree to do i will go to court... its called misrepresentation of information or false advertisement.

anyhow, i dont think crucial would want a problem in their hands, if indeed there was a massive problem, there would also be a recall of the products. just my opinion mates.

It's the customer reviews for the Ballistix at Newegg. As you can see from the review, these memory sticks have been garbage for a few months now, but Crucial has not recalled them.

    A. What the heck is Crucial thinking?!?
    B. Why the heck is newegg still selling sticks with such a high RMA rate??

I bet 95% of these people having problems wouldn't if they knew how to overclock before pushing them so hard and also would COOL their RAM.

Though I admit the new single sided modules dont clock as well as the older double sided. But they still do clock to about 900ish

I had with my E8500@Max Formula 470 MaxFSB!
Now @Rampage i have 520maxFSB but i need NB 1,712 load, FSBTV 1,648 load PLL 1,7xx Load for stable. Thats crazy, or not?

    Sorry for my bad english
I am one for 500FSB daily. This mobo does 500FSB with ease on as little as 1.488v NB. It is the CPU thatr will holfd it back, and the quads hold it back more so then duals. The E7x50/E8x50's do it with ease, even on air.

What exactly are they, Crucial or Intel stating as an issue of the RAM to deam it not compatable with X38/X48. I though it was as compatable w/ P35. I baught this PC2-8500 Tracers new for my ASUS P5K Deluxe over a year ago now and moved it to 2 MAXIMUS' and left in one as daily OC'd for over 6+ months. I get the det_ram randomly on the 2nd MF SE but is fine if I jsut reset, even during resume from S4/STHDD (Hibernate).

What top notch RAM is getting the scores of the origional Ballistix but with less vdimm? Any OCZ Titanium PC2-8500/PC29200's users on this mobo to 1200MHz daily? My Titanium PC2-6400 at 2x2g can do 1050 on 2.2v daily on air so just curious.

1.41 (actual) is excelent for this mobo and good to 415FSB on average, less if on divider and or more then 2 RAM slots used.

C'mon guys and gals, you gotta' take a lot of what retail end users review with a 25% noob factor and another 25% BS factor. Nothing to do with NewEgg (I like 'em and use 'em myself), just peepz in general, quick to reply with little knowledge or testing. Granted a few are showing up as not so OC'able liek before. I'd take better judgement from what you read on our forums here then retail review.

OK seems I have created some controversy.
Perhaps I was a bit hasty with my post, But for the hell of it I called Crucial and they only offer PC5300 for Maximus support, did anyone else who actually owns this ram bother to call??
Anyways the information comes from BlazinPC and I take it as correct, for I see no reason for the respected poster to lie or mislead ppl.

Now you can make your own mind up on if they support or do not, personally I do not care anymore.

I secon that. Or the OCZ PC2-8500 Platinum 2x2g kit? Or atleast getting better then our old Tracers of matched spd and timings? I can speak for my Titanium of PC2-6400 OC'd to 1000 daily on 2.2v and they are solid and require less cooling effort then many others. The heatsink is simpole yet effective. However, I too would love to hear more about those PC2-8500 FLEX XLC series in 2x2g kitsa for overclocking on x38. I'm speaking of 1150~1200MHz and above, since this is the norm for most of us on this mobo these days.

Is anybody seeing steady stability in overclocking 2x2 g kits in same profile as previous 2x1 g kits of any good quality RAM?

well i was running crucial lanfest before they died in my maximus flashed to a rampage. those are on rma now, should get them back soon. in the meantime i used some d9 based adata's, which worked ok but not great.

i bought a set of transcend axeram 1200mhz sticks and cant be happier with these. running them at 1253mhz and its like a whole new machine.
