hmmm when i first asked everyone told me not to do the flash if i have a china mobo.. they said it was fine with the taiwan ones though?? has this changed? it wasn't about the bios chip it was due to china ones having issues with nb voltage

The worst that can happen is that you would have a X38 flashed to a X48 with a NB overvolting issue.
I used my X38 with the old bios (with the NB crazy volts) for very long time and that never set me back. You just have to set the NB and then go to BIOS and see the voltage repeating that till you get to the desired.
By no means I am encouraging you to do this, I'm just answering your questions.
My X38 still has the X38 bios and I never tried to flash because it's a 24/7 machine not OC.

so zsamz is there still a issue flashing the china mobo in your opinion? i just grabbed a bios chip from that seller

its same bios just nb overvolting
x48 is just a higher bin in my opinion
i still waitin to see someone go over 555fsb on x38 or x48

Hey Sam, acording to this EXPANDER guy he got 680+ on the P35 and 600+ on the X38:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...5&postcount=42
Would be nice to see some SS results.
anyone else have corruption issues with this board and overclocking? I hit 3.8 with mine prime/occt stable for 2+ hours, and I still get some firefox crashes, and I cant install even brand new games because of copy issues. I'm starting to think its vista again causing issues. Any advice would be nice.

well yeah, i flashed the x48 bios. Just make 100% certain not to use the "wrong" NB voltage settings and always doeblecheck what bios reads. Not worth it imho, X38 bios is safer.
re: settings to tight, board sometimes wont boot:
Well my GTL is set manually - but i have all phases pulled it except one. Is there a recommendation what phases to pull in and what to leave at default?

Well, I may have figured that out. Seems I could not load 3DM06 even @ stock, so I did some more looking. IDK if I installed the hotfix when I installed Vista, but I installed it tonight and 3DM06 loads and runs fine. I knew something was up when I could run 3D games but not 3DM06.
Any advice on where to tweak next?

Thanks for the suggestion. Mind you, at this time I am mostly going for stability and lower voltages...
try droping ure vtt right down to 1.35 for a 3.6Ghz setting on a quad. if u find the lower vtt is causing reboots just add more VID instead of more vtt.
looking at how uve set the GTL's looks a little off 130-120-100. from what i gather they are normally more simular. just sum examples, nothing to do with ure current vtt setting 95-94-94 or 96-95-96
try setting the MCH ODT latency on 2 , well between 1-3
also try enableing all the powersaving cpu settings, like on a stock mobo & then adding ure core cpu volts using the special vid add instead of the cpu vid control. saves pumping stable o/c voltage through the cpu when its doing nothing.

It's my first time using my new QX9650 L739A640 quad core (different to my QX9650 L739A644) on DFI LT X38 and was wondering what max FSB have you guys achieved and what voltages/bios settings it took to get there ?
So far seems 450FSB is the ceiling I have to work on breaking as 445FSB seems fine for QX9650 L739A640. Pretty low compared to my QX9650 L739A644 but on Asus Blitz Formula and Asus Blitz Extreme motherboard which hits 465-470FSB easy). But haven't used QX9650 L739A644 on DFI LT X38 yet.

i can get to about 4.2Ghz on my e6750, stability becomes harder to pin after 4.1Ghz so low 500's fsb range. i wont go into voltages as their not to usefull for ure QX9650 eva2000.
@ t_ski, ignore my comment in the last post on GTL's as it seems by eva's post ure on the right track. i dont have to use them on my dualcore & had read in the thread prevously thats how the need to be set the on a 65nmquad.
i must have miss a bit on GTL's since then![]()

hmm ure vtt is too high.
disable the vdroop.
reduce it to stock and leave the gtl at default.. wont make a difference at 400fsb for c2d
NB around 1.4 or less
and this is mainly ure prob on ure rams
Ranks Write to Write (tWRWR)..............4
Ranks Read to Read (tRDRD)................5
Ranks Write to Read (tWRRD)...............4
try 6 6 5
better if u try this
set ure NB to 1.356
GTL on Auto
Ram Setting all of them on AUTO except
T2 Disaptch = Disabled
and Set 5-5-5-15
Performance Level Auto .. no need to mess with it... as it will choose the lowest. and equal for both channel
and Choose the 266/something strap to get 1000mhz
should be piece of cake at 2.23v

OK, thanks. If I stay home during the day tomorrow I might do some more tweaking. I spent most of the afternoon getting everything installed in the new case I'm testing. LOL my desk is a mess...![]()
Clunk's GTL Ref Charts
Hello,
those values differ greatly from any older values i knew of.
Eg. for 1.40ish VTT i had 99 GTL ref first, and now according to Clunk's charts it's supposed to be 130.
i am on the X38 (flashed back to latest X38 bios) and Q6600. Can anyone explain the value eg. "130".....how does does this relate to 67% of 1.40 VTT?
Q6600 g0 L741 1.4V@35xx-> 8x44x FSB - 5:6 333/800- 2x2gb OCZ XTC Plats@53x mhz - dfi lp X38 TR2, Ultra Xtreme 120 - W7 64Bit - NV GTX275 - Corsair 520 (blew up) -> Toughpower 750W
x38_314bios:
The CPU Vcore -> Auto and "Auto Add" dont work right with this bios and CPU Power management.
In the *old* X111 bios if i set VCore to "Auto" and then "Vcore Special Add 108.74%" my CPU is idle/clocked down at 1.3V....and when its under load and multi 8x it goes up to 1.46Vcore, as desired.
With the new X38_314 bios if i set to "Auto" and "108% special add" the Vcore is always at 1.46, regardless whether CPU low-power (EIST) is on (6x multi) or under load 8x.
Better power-savings with old X38111 bios!
Q6600 g0 L741 1.4V@35xx-> 8x44x FSB - 5:6 333/800- 2x2gb OCZ XTC Plats@53x mhz - dfi lp X38 TR2, Ultra Xtreme 120 - W7 64Bit - NV GTX275 - Corsair 520 (blew up) -> Toughpower 750W
afaik.
example on my e8500 on fsb500
on 8x500fsb
i have two choice
NB : 1.55
1.5vtt at NB GTL 80
Vdimm 2.23
NB : 1.63
or 1.2vtt at NB GTL 70
Vdimm 2.16
both at 4x1gb 1000mhz CL4 TRD 7(on both channels..)
forgot my e6850 setting last time but afaik the NB voltage and VTT wasnt that high for 400fsb
Memtest 5 pass stable.
as for the 1000mhz TRD 6 CL5 beats any strap 333/800...980..CL5 TRD 7
the cost is higher vdimm.
the advantage lower latencies and higher bandwidth.
the auto setting as no advantage in tweaking except for those 3 settings at 5-5-5 .. which will give a huge gain

i am really confused now.
On Anandtech http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3129&p=13
they claim you need 1.6 VTT for 440-475FSB....1.6VTT sounds insane for me. I am at 442 FSB right now and "only" 1.42 VTT.
I use to keep VTT slightly under VCore, and also on Air and in general i try to keep everything at or below 1.45V...NB is at 1.5tho.
I dont think i would ever go as high as 1.6VTT
Q6600 g0 L741 1.4V@35xx-> 8x44x FSB - 5:6 333/800- 2x2gb OCZ XTC Plats@53x mhz - dfi lp X38 TR2, Ultra Xtreme 120 - W7 64Bit - NV GTX275 - Corsair 520 (blew up) -> Toughpower 750W
ive just finished testing at fsb488 x8 with vtt set at 1.39 , did a 9 hour run of dualprime64 last night night, also totally memtest stable & occt 2hour test stable.
for my cpu its vtt needs go a bit like this:
fsb450x8 1.32-1.33
fsb475x8 1.35-1.37
fsb500x8 1.4-1.42
all without gtl's being set.
