The screenshots were posted as a starting point. Depending on components, settings will have to be altered slightly from those shown.
Unless the operating system is configured for variable stepping (VCORE and frequency) PPM (EIST) does nothing so I very seldom disable it. In the two screenshots I posted C1E being enabled is only lowering the frequency when idle. If CPU VID Control is set to anything other then Auto the VCORE will stay where set.
On my 24/7 systems, regardless of overclock, C1E and VDroop Control is enabled and VCORE is set using Special Add. At idle both VCORE and frequency decrease. With VDroop enabled the CPU and power circuitry receive the benefits that VDroop brings. And the excessive voltage normally associated with Droop is never seen because the voltage is not increased until the CPU is loaded.
With the exception of all out benching there is no reason not to use this on a properly configured, stable system.

you can't follow praz's setting to the T
every cpu is different every board is different
n he running promos chips on his you running d9
i got 6 sets of d9 every one reacts differen on the board
bump your voltages get stable set right gtl settings then you can think of lowering voltages

OK, I'll give it another shot here in a little bit. Weird things have been happening here today though. Three times my PC locked up while browsing (twice while looking at the same webpage and once on a new site I don't normally go on). I ran two loops of MemTest 86 and everything was fine, then I ran Prime 95 small FFT's for about 15 minutes with no problems. Not sure if it's at all related to anything, especially since I'm at stock right now
BTW, I figured I'd post a MemSet screen shot with the ram timings. I plan on plugging these same timings in manually since you guys said to set everything and not use Auto.

Thanks for the tips guys. All of the settings from MemSet were settings that the BIOS created when set to Auto, including Performance Level 4.
However, I got C1 errors when I tried to punch those settings in, even with Performance Level set to 6. Now that I think about it, I probably should have tried 7.
Anyway, I got a new toy in today to review, so I didn't spend much time playing with the OC. Maybe if I'm up late tonight I'll give it another shot. I already made notes of your latest suggestions, so I'll be sure to plug those in as well.
OK, I messed with it some more, and it is definitely more stable now that it was before. Best I could do previously was 3.0 GHz for about 25 minutes. I just got done running prime95 @ 3.6 GHz for 30 minutes and stopped it without an error. Granted timings may be a little loose and voltages need to be tweaked, but at least I am getting there. Thanks a ton guys!![]()

Erm... I'd step down a bit if I was you... close to 80C ain't healthy, plus it's not gonna be stable come summer...
So step down, improve your cooling or tweak GTL and VTT so you can lower Vcore![]()
lol after my rant yesterday i went home and *seem* to have 3.8ghz stable or at least for one memtest 86+ pass stable! (which takes about an hour with 8gb)
You da man.
After reading that I shouldn't set the gtl's so high on my 8400, I set them for 86/88@1.453vtt, and gave it a run..
I'm a 3dm bencher, more or less, and I couldn't get the 01 to pass at 500x9. Well after adjusting the gtl's, 84051 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9366055 .
Thanks for the tips everyone.![]()

Oh, I know it's too high. That's why I only bothered to run it for 30 minutes. When I get my new "toy" up and running I'll slap the watercooling on this chip. I'm even thinking of lapping it. Between the watercooling and lapping I think I could possibly see close to a 15C drop compared to results between this heatsink, the EK and my old CPU which both were tested on.
And I do plan on tweaking the volts some, as well as the memory. Whenever I get a chance I'll run back through the BIOS and write down all the new settings and post them up.
Thanks again guys

Bios Problem:
Guys,
i still have a problem with my bios, this is either the X48 bios (3/7) or the X38 bios from march.
My settings are all OCCT/Prime stable and tested, and i already cranked up voltages,VTT,NB and tried everything:
Even if my system is OCCT stable - at reboot or coming from standby the bios sometimes resets to default - or the PC just hangs at boot and doent boot at all.
This seems to happen only with certain multis/straps. (Right now i am at 8x447 and mem at 5:6 (530). Its really annoying since eg. i want to schedule tasks to wake up the computer from standby (backups!)....but there is a good chance it just hangs there.
What can i do? Any new bios out where this is solved? This is VERY annoying..i also wonder why it only happens at certain straps.
Maybe the bios "thinks" its overclocked too high (even if its stable). If we had a fixed bios this would be very, very great.
My NB voltage is already at 1.5, Vcore at 1.45, VTT at 1.42, VMem 2.2

Is this board not compatible with the Razer Barracuda AC-1? I sold mine to a friend who has this board (against my recommendation) but the board just stays stuck in a reboot cycle. I put the card in my spare rig (Biostar matx S939) and it works just fine. Anyone else try this combo?

has anyone had success with flashing to the x48 bios with the china mobo yet? im tempted but done want to kill this thing
upgrading...cooler master cm690 case, corsair hx850, samsung 1tb x 3, optiarc burners x2, gskill 4gb ripjaws, working on the rest again
Yes zsam and others have, some had taiwan others china but they have the same sst bios chip so it really doesn't matter.
I would grab a spare pre-flashed bios chip first just in case:
http://myworld.ebay.com/biosdepot/
Just specify the mobo manufacturer and model and the bios you want and they will do the rest![]()
