    if you'd botherd to research b4 making comments you would know that CRUCIAL SAID IT.

    Engineers at Crucial have invalidated the compatibility listing for X38/48 boards. As of 3/7/2008 Crucial no longer lists X38/48 as a compatible chipset for their DDR2 800 and DDR2 1066 sticks of Ballistix Tracers.

    thanks for the clarification mate. but as i said earlier, i am running my crucial as per my sig and i have no problems regardless of what crucial says and it has been running well for the past 6mths more or less.

    btw mate, could you give me the link on crucial's page where the invalidation is stated? thank you

    i've killed 4 sticks crucial lanfest so far thier on rma atm.

    my real question is-

    i need a cpu for my backup rig since my e2180 isnt cutting it for what i want. so i figured i'd take the q6600 out of my main rig.(specs in my sig)

    what would be a good upgrade from a q6600 in these maximus/rampage boards. are the yorkfields clocking well in these? or should i just get a wolfdale for the backup rig and keep the q6600.

    i got my maximus se to rampage 308 bios and everything is working good at 3.6.. it was a little tricky getting the first settings and finding ones that worked. my temps are very good for air and the voltages are not very high.. the only downside which is a super bummer is no matter what i tried the thing would not hold raid aray.. i have been trying everything for months.. i gave up and installed a single hard drive on ide and it stays running.. no problems yet. i may try to get a raid card and install it to see if i can get my raptors to actually work. i took the stock heat sink off so i don't think i can return the board or if they even have any left to replace it with. so i am going to eventually get a different board if the card doesn't work for raid on it.. i used the rampage guide on the first page and everything went flawless. i found some settings using the search on this thread since things are combined and came up with some good starting points.. thanks..

    Grnfinger I'm interested to know how you came accross this information.
    I'm also a member of 'ocforums' and your name and comments are linked on my thread (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.p...07#post5589307). I'd like to know if there is proof to your statements, as I've been having issues with my sticks and do not plan to RMA them again.

    The information originally comes from http://www.blazingpc.com/forum/showt...830/index.html

    After searching the Crucial site myself I was unable to confirm this.
    So seeing as I might have posted false information I called Crucial myself.
    The only ram compatible with Maximus Formula is PC5300
    This problem with ram dying prematurely has been ongoing since the board came out.

    This board has killed 4 sets (8GB) of Ballistix PC8500 since January, and that was running at stock voltages! Although I've been a big Ballistix fangirl for many years, I've finally resorted to trying other sticks in my MF/RF rigs.

    Kingston HyperX PC8500 does 485 reliably and 505 with occasional BSODs, but I'm still searching for something else that will give me consistent performance and reliability.
    * Asus Maximus Rampage SE, Intel E8400 (4.2 GHz), Freezone Elite TEC, 4 GB Kingston HyperX DDR2-1066, EVGA 9800 GX2 1GB, (6) Western Digital RaptorX150's (RAID0/5)
    * Asus Maximus Formula, Intel Q6600 (3.6 GHz), 4 GB Adata DDR2-800, PNY 9600 GT 512MB, (4) 147 GB Seagate Cheetah SCSI HDD's on Adaptec 2100S
    * Asus P5B Deluxe wifi, Intel Q6600 (3.6 GHz), 4 GB Transcend DDR2-800, MSI 7900GS OC, (4) Samsung Spinpoint M 250 Gb HDD's (RAID0)
    * Asus P5K, Intel E6420 (3.2 GHz), 2 GB Generic DDR2-800, XFX 8600GT 256 MB, 250 GB Hitachi Deathstar
    * Abit NF7-S v2, AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ (2.6 GHz), 4GB PC3200 DDR, Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB, (2) 40 GB Maxtor DiamondMax HDD's (RAID0)

    * Asus EeePC 4G Pink, 1 GB DDR2, 4GB Flash Drive

    Thanks for clarifying.After reading so many negative posts on the Ballistixs and this board, I'm sorry I ever bought them. Once I get the returns, I'm going to sell them off. Can you recommend a set (i'd like to keep 8GB) that would definetly work and OC with this mobo?
