Question 2x2GB kit on older P965 chipsets with no TRFC adjustment?

Anyone using powerchips 2x2GB kits like gskill, mushkin redline, ocz, etc etc on an older P965 chipset?

As far as I know, these chipsets are limited to a TRFC of 42 in bios and cannot be raised. As most people know, the key to OCing 4GB kit is loosening the TRFC setting to 52 or higher.

I have an Asus Commando and was wondering how far these 4GB kits can be pushed while maintaining 100% stability.

    Thanks

    Based on what I hear...About 900 - 950, maybe less.

Been having some trouble with that board even making it to 1000.

Hi.I gota Commando and i just now testing my ocz 2x2GB on this board and i can say that i cant hit 950mhz with this board and memorys. And with my P35-DS3 mainboard i can run this memory a bit over 1000mhz.And with commando u can only see 2GB in win xp 32bit and that sucks:P With P35-Ds3 i can se 3.5GB.

What about spdtool and flashing a higher tRFC ? haven't used 965 board in a while now but been testing several 2x2GB DDR2 kits on P35/X38 boards with Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1.

I think there's a bug with all P965 based Asus boards in that they don't read the SPD properly even after setting memory timings to AUTO. It always defaults to 5-6-6 timings and 42 TRFC still.

I'm running 4x1GB of OCZ PC8500 SLI right now and ya, the max I can get is around 950Mhz

Surprisingly, the more voltage I put through them the worse it is, I'm only using 1.8v (minimum bios will allow).

I guess none of these new ProMos or Powerchip sticks like low TRFC regardless of density. I tried changing TRFC in memset but it had no effect. Does anyone know if TRFC changes work in memset?

the trfc changes should work on commando AFAIK.. but problem might be the P965 not liking 2x2GB much.

I tested one kit on Asus P5B Deluxe (the newest bios)

Does 1000 MHz DDR up to ~ 1030 MHz DDR. Completely stable. But we have to force TRFC 52. As old Asus boards don't allow to leave TRFC on "auto" mode when we are adjusting other timings, so I had to leave all latency settings on "auto" (of course you have to posses memory, which SPD has encrypted TRFC=52). Then, without any problem, boot from bios, 1000 - 1030 MHz stable (I was lucky and Asus automatic settings were 5-5-5-15-52-14-11-5-3

    Tested on Exceleram PC6400 2x2 GB (CL5).

On my P5B-D, if i set RAM to run SPD, i get tRFC of 51, which allows for nice high clocks w/ 2 GB dimms.

Manually set, yeah, 42 is the highest, & you can't get anywhere.

    With my G.Skill 2x2 GB 5-5-5- PQ, it wouldn't even post @ DDR2-850 w/ tRFC @ 42, but it could do DDR2-1000+ w/ SPD (tRFC 51).

    With my Mushkin 2x2 GB 996580, it did DDR2-975 5-5-5 w/ tRFC @ 42, then no more.
With SPD, it did well over DDR2-1000.
