That Bios was not a good release and should never have ended up on the Official List I would suggest you update to 1/30/2008 using the Zip Package

Do you have the 790FX-M2R or M2RS?

Attention: Updated Process For...... The Olympic Sport Of Bios Flashing

So Far the 4/15/08 Beta seems positive and keeping fingers crossed that it does well and is stable.

    What I did was this.........

(#1) Download the 4/15/2008 Beta "Zip Package"
    (#2) Format Blank Floppy Disk
(#3) Download DR Dos and send to Floppy Disk
(#4) Extract 4/15/2008 Zip Package to Floppy Disk ....NOTE: when 4/15/2008 Zip Package is Extracting to Floppy disk it will ask you if you wish to replace the AUTOEXEC.BAT File ......Click NO!
(#5) Make sure you do a proper clear cmos with the system Unplugged of course!
(#6) Only leave your USB Mouse plugged in and USB Keyboard /// ...Preferably its Best to Use a PS2 KEYBOARD over the USB Keyboard!
(#7) Boot up and Press "F1" to continue with Defaults Loaded
    (#8) Boot into Pure DOS and when you get to A:\ Prompt ..Type this from A:\AWDFLASH.EXE R7LD415.BIN /CKS /SN /PY /CC /CD /CP /LD /QI /WB /CH /E ...(Hit Enter!)
(#9) Let the Flash Complete and the /E Switch that we included into the Switching Parameters will Return you to A:\ Prompt
    (#10) at that Point when on A:\ Prompt Re-Type...A:\AWDFLASH.EXE R7LD415.BIN /CKS /SN /PY /CC /CD /CP /LD /QI /WB /CH /E

(#11) After the Second Flash is Complete and you return to A:\ and the Floppy light goes out please power down manually and do Proper 10-15 Minute Clear cmos

"EDIT" Proper Spacing of Flash Command Parameters is "CRITICAL"! This means the Dude from DFICLUB!

NOTE: The Reason to Flash two times using this method is because it will make sure that the old code that was stored on the Flash Chip is properly Over written without doubt or question and in return it yields a Much Cleaner Bios Flash for the Extra Effort!

    BTW.....ROCK ON!!!

Well it appears that my DFI 790FX-M2R board wasn't the problem.

Newegg RMA'ed it... but since they had none in stock they just refunded the money and sent me an e-mail. I found a local store that had the Gigabyte MA790FX-DS5 in stock for a reasonable price so I picked it up. It has the same boot problem... with 2 different sets of ram. (And the ram works in another machine so we know it's not ram.)

SO it looks like using Sandra blew the CPU up. But it was probably just a coincidence that it blew up while I happened to be running a test in Sandra.

The 9850 will go off for RMA. Luckily I ordered an AM2 CPU to have on hand "just in case". I should get it tomorrow. I'll wait on sending the Phenom off until I see this MB and memory working with the temporary CPU. (I guess it could still be the memory... even though it works in another machine.)

DANG IT. I liked the DFI 790FX-M2R better than this Gigabyte. (I like the LED POST display, and it has a better sound card.)

    Oh well.

Its not too late Keith Besides GIGABYTE does not have Removable Bios Chips and with that said if anything goes amiss you will have to send the whole Board in and wait 2-3 weeks vs getting a chip from me or what ever.

Besides we like you and would like you to stay and have some fun with us!

Update:...Well all my previous settings work and with no adverse side affect so the 4/15/08 Beta so far indicates positive signs

Can anyone with a Hitachi Drive please verify this Finding with Hitachi Drive Fitness Test in DOS? Now I don't expect any of you to own SpinRite6 as it costs $100.00 for the HDD testing Program vs the "FREE" H.D.F.T

    Hitachi Fitness

Ok, I ran the program on SB600 controller.
Using my 80gb Deskstar it would not see the drive if the controller was in Raid mode.I seemed to remember that when I tried to use the Hitachi F tool to change drive settings,I had to change the controller to legacy instead of Raid mode.So I did that same thing using the Fitness program and it worked.
Lemme know if u want me to test on SIL controller.

Also I just bought those OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB PC8500 and they wont boot at 1066, just like the patriot memory I bought.
Is it the IMC on these X2 cores, the reason it wont boot at that speed?
    Or can it be motherboard?

Well I fon't use onboard Raid so neither the SB600 or Silicon Image controller were set on Raid When testing! Funny thing is that WD Raptors are able to test on the SB600 Controller so I don't get it Yes please also test on Silicon Image controller as well

What you need to do is have 1/30/08 Bios or later and also Leave everything at auto and on Dram Config Page /Set to manual and leave the other settings all at AUTO then on Main Genie Bios Page set dram frequency to manual and set 1066 Divider

Also thw 1066 Divider will not work unless you have a Phenom CPU
