    Quick results

    EDIT:

This is about as high as I can get this chip. stable Poor clocker.. slightly less vCore will lock up after 10-15 min of Prime95, a huge amount of vcore more and it still can't do 3550. At least my coworker isn't as picky as me.. this will go into his setup

The X3350 I received today is an absolute piece of garbage...

    Info -
    Newegg
    FPO/BATCH # - L806A744
    Pack Date - 4/3/08
    VID - 1.125

This thing cant beat a G0.... I have tried everything. I am on Asus Rampage Formula BIOS 0308.

No matter what Vcore, PLL, VTT, GTL or anything I set. It will not boot at 8x450, it wont even go into BIOS @ 8x460.

I feel like throwing this thing in the garbage and buying a new one rather than go through the hassle of returning it. Really pissed atm with this thing...

Not only is there all of the above, the damn thing runs about 15C hotter than my G0. Maybe coretemp is reading it wrong, but on water this damn thing is running at 40-45C with a room temp of 20C.

Anyone got any ideas? I been at this for hours trying to even get into goddamn windows.

Core Temp reports the wrong temperature for all 45nm processors... apparently.

And... this one only works so well in some specific boards. ASUS P5E-VM HDMI and ASUS Striker II Extreme seem to be the two good ones at the moment.

Im thinking it might be bad 45nm support in BIOS? I dunno I will play with it some more, but I think this ones getting thrown out.

I don't think it's the BIOS... as I can hit over 4GHz bootable with all BIOSes... on this board... even the ones that don't support this CPU.

In that case this really is a crappy chip..... Not gonna bother with the RMA on it, just gonna let it go cheap on here probably.

When I first setup my system I settled on 3.2GHz 1.28v as it was the easiest clock speed. After 2weeks of tweaking I have my cpu running prime stable @ 3.52GHz 4:5 1.32v. Very very happy, I'm pretty sure I could go to 3.6GHz but I don't think my RAM would cope as I'm running 4x 1Gb. I could possibly run 1:1, will have to do some tests to see if it is worth the hassle.

It's happened with two chips on two different boards with the same model. I think it's really a board problem.

    any P35-dq6 and crucial ballistix PC6400 2 x 2GB users?

i am currently stucked at 3.4ghz... 425 FSB.

    FSB overvoltage : 1.3V
    MCH voltage: 1.275V
    Ram voltage: 2V
    Vcore: 1.2v in bios (in cpu-z 1.168V)

wondering what i need to do in order to reach 450 mark.
i tried higher voltages but within safety zone , but still cannot do it.

or could be my mobo simply cannot make it?

What do you mean? You chip ran 3.8ghz fine on 2 boards and not fine on others? I dont see how its a board limitation when I can clock my Q6600 perfectly fine, it goes all the way up to 490FSB on water.

I really think its one of 2 things, maybe both?

    1) BIOS doesnt completely run a 45nm chip to its fullest
    2) The chip just wont do anymore

Maybe some other Maximus/Rampage users could give some input on their findings, anything I have seen has been pretty inconclusive.

I mean... two different chips, on two different ASUS P5E-VM HDMI boards. Both hit 4GHz or over. I don't think that's luck.

Edit: Here are the two validations:

I won't want 445FSB or higher. No matter what I do. It just dont want to boot.

Maybe Intel limits these chips to help Extreme series. The latest L08 G0 quads are crap compared to the early batches.

That's a possible explanation. I was in the same place as ChaosMinionX and unable to reach 8x450 with a Q9450 (X3350 brother). I have a P5K-E/Wifi-AP unopened as well and I might try a experiment to see if that board will clock higher. My Q6600 is able to reach 3.8 GHz with ease...

This might also be why Intel is creating a C1 stepping to fix a issue with some boards about stability at higher FSB. C1 is also crap

What VIDs did your two CPUs have? Maybe I'll try out a P5E-VM HDMI.. or maybe I should just open up my QX

Same here. My P5E (w/ Rampage 308 Bios) wont even POST at 8 x 450.

I think the problem is my ASUckS X38 series board. My E3110 overclock like hell but not X3350...

I tried with maximus, p5e, and rampage bioses. But still no go

I'm at work and haven't had much time to play around w/ my RF but I'm able to get 3.68 GHz stable. Won't even POST at 475 fsb bus though no matter what volts I crank up. Q9450 and 2x2GB GSkill 1066 RAM. My NB ran super hot at stock even w/ my cheapo case fans, but I put two 120mm Zalmans and it doesn't get much higher than 40 C.

My NB is watercooled and I even pumped 1.7v without changing anything... Maybe I need to play with the GTL to get something...

At worst, I could buy a P5E-VM HDMI, slap the Q9450 then build a HTPC box, returning my golden Q6600 back in my main PC.

I made a new topic about the FSB probs with the new C1 stepping.

VIDs were at 1.125v on both of them?

And anyway, there's another board that I think will do good with the chip: ASUS Striker II Extreme. It's not like I'm the only one to have ever reached these clocks... and... a P5K-Deluxe modded to death is currently holding the world record at 519 FSB.

This also resulted in an incomplete boot, however I will note that it showed the vista progress bar for a bit! Progress ? Id say so, so I further explored this anomoly.

This resulted into a full boot into windows, and I am here typing this to you all now.

So who wants to explain whats up with that? It really looks like its a board problem now, this chip seems to be fine for higher FSB when its found what it really needs.

    Any info would be appreciated

I noticed on my LT X38-T2R BIOS 1/11 if I play with the settings, sometimes it will not boot into Vista. If I load from CMOS Reloaded my working settings, it still does not get into Windows. I have to yank the AC and do a complete cold boot.

    EDIT:
    8x451 will post with
    vcore 1.35
    nb 1.604
    ctt 1.325
    gtl 173/137/128

    won't boot windows. hm.

These chips are very frustrating to say the least....
