Yes... 4.2-4.3 is pretty close to the highest 24/7 you'll get on ambient cooling (air/water).

1.6V will kill the chip sooner or later, I wouldn't recommend much over 1.37V.

    Isen't that i little low ?

    I have runed a 65nm (E6600) on 1.55v 24/7 over a year, it can't be that much less for a 45nm chip

I use 2xdual heatercore with 4 Delta 153CFM fans and Swiftech Apogge GT on 1/2tubing

Got it on friday, but haven't had the time to test it yet ...

It is a L740A but the number on the little black sticker ends on 915

1.6v!!!!!! That's going to burn it out in a couple months right??
    The specs say:
    Code:
Max processor input voltage (VID) - 1.360v
I'm testing mine at 1.36 volts 24/7 but it's probably dangerous. As long as it lasts 2 years, It's good enough for me. In 2 years this baby will be slow as molasses.

I'm confused though, because in my BIOS I have it set @ 1.36v but cpu-z sees it as 1.280v. Can I up it some more in the BIOS till cpu-z says 1.36v or should I go with my settings in the BIOS?

There are reports of 1.5V+ degrading 65nm chips. Not all of them do it, for example yours seems fine, but the equivalent on 45nm would be 1.4V+ (the "Vmax" for 45nm is 1.45V as opposed to the 1.55V of 65nm).

I just don't want to burn a valuable chip.

The L740s can be very nice for air/water despite what hipro has shown with subzero cooling.

    Bumping an old thread.

I've got a sealed QX9650 sitting infront of me, L740B.. not sure if I want to crack it open or just sell it off. How well is well on air/water?

I have a L740A that does 4GHz 1.25V on air. However I have heard of several reports of L740B not going too well so YMMV.

i'm about to pull the trigger on a L739A746, any speculations on how it'll perform? the seller had his maximus' bios Vcore set to auto and it defaulted at 1.44V at 400x10. what do you guys think? i'm new to yorkies and don't know what to expect.

    L740B I had could do 3.8GHz at 1.36v

    At 4.0GHz it required 1.44v for 24/7

For 4.4v it needed 1.6v and I didn't go above that because I'm only on water.

that is a bad one, mine that is 40B or A,

On dice I could do 5.5Ghz and on LN2 I could take it to 5.8Ghz
Haven't tested max on water or air, for the extreme cooling I used 1.93v

    Waffer is 915

Propably will be good for about 4500MHz on air in a case for 24/7 and lower VCore....

Don't worry mrlobber, I can bench the ES at 5870MHz for Super-Pi 1M....
ALSO LN2 for this one I will test tomorrow (and I hope it does well)...

This number on the PCB of the CPU is indicating (from my obsevations all these years that I'm "focusing" on it) the "place of the wafer" it was cuted....Propably the LOWEST (closed to 00) the TWO LAST numbers are, the "centered of the wafer" it was cuted...
    For example: LAST TWO numbers.....000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and so on....
    FIRST 15 numbers are the best....for example2: 012, 005, 009, 104, 113, 202, 215, 205, 314, 304, 406, 412, 601, 609, 712, 703, etc....
These 2 LAST numbers should be closest to "00" LIKE: 001, 713, 404, NOT 478, 656 and so on....

At least that's what I have observed by searching all these years....
Ok I am trying to figure this out...

I just recieved my QX9770 and the code is

    3573756
    5A1191

So the "11" is close to "00" and the "91" gah I am lost LOL, numbers look good except for that darn "9" in there.

    L740B159 here : 3.6Ghz at 1.14 and 4ghz at 1.25 prime stable...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    My new one is L744B150

Needs 1.38v for 4.0GHz so far, but not so good temps (I need to remount my waterblock again, maybe lap everything).

    It's funny, my L740B249 needed 1.44v for 4.0GHz.

Well I just bought a QX9650 and my numbers look very very close to your old L740B249. So far I am struggling to get to 4GHz when it was very easy with my Q6600 to reach there @ 1.48v. I hoping for a 4.2GHz @ 1.45 for a 24/7 CPU.

Yeah, despite the cost of these chips, 4GHz at manageable settings is not a guarantee.
