Why would you tape it up when you could just disconnect the wire?

    One BIG question - WHEN?

Why don't you set up the EK website for taking pre-orders, Eddy? We could pre-pay and wait some time, as we do for example on amazon for the pre-order of some goods.

Usually the LED on motherboards are soldered on, so, unless u break it off, there's no way to "disconnect the wire"

In this case you will have a positive cash flow before actual shipments ... plus you will keep the re-seller's fee in EK's pocket.
They are taking pre-orders, and the blocks is on the EK website

Only problems with charging for pre-orders, are some people don't like to be charged money before the product ships. I certainly don't (normally) like it, unless it is a company, or person I know well.

I wouldn't hesitate to pay for a pre-order from EK though!

Will the Evga version be sold separately? Any target price point on that? Looks like a nice backplate on it too, like the one from the Akimbo air cooler. I like the all copper design.

I like the all copper version too - nickel is just another layer in adddition to thermal pasta between the real heat transfer body and the chip, IMO.

The picture of Evga's prototype block is aluminum but he stated that the final version will be copper, that picture is just a prototype and is not nickel plated copper.

Either copper or nickel plated copper is fine with me, both look and perform great.

Am I the only one who thinks that $780 for a video card and waterblock (for which you likely have to volt mod the card to see some real benefit) is a bit ridiculous?

Thats why you pick up an EVga and trade it for a "free" 9900GTX within 4 month (when it is/if) out and enjoying the (single?) GPU-power that is on the same level and then pick up another 9900GTX for a nice boost when the wallet is filled up again.

We were talking about EK waterblocks, the nickel version is 10 Euro more expensive ... and it looks very nice and shiny, but ... we like copper .
If both are fine for you, why pay more?

Well, its always like that, you have the same price and charge the manufacturers a resellers fee, therefore it is more profitable for them to sell to the end users ... at least in the beginning of announce.

Regarding $780 price - it is not THAT bad for many people, for example I paid only $62 for step-up from 8800GTX to 9800GX2, now it is not too bad to pay $239 for the waterblock looking at 85C load temperature ... because the first payment for 8800GTX is already in the past.

I am not sure that we definitely need to volt mod the card, it has enormous overclocking possibilities ... some people run it at 812MHz instead of the stock 600MHz without any volt mod. We will see.

It is more ridiculous to pay $300-$400 for 2 gb of DDR3, overclock it to max and have worse read-write-copy-latency results than for "updated" overclocked DDR2, for which you paid <$100 having 4 gb ... IMO

Isn't it a bit ridiculous to pay $650 for 2 1 gb sticks of DDR3-2000, which at least work and finally outperform the overclocked DDR2?

I don't think it's ridiculous. it gets hot here in NM and when the GTX came out I paid the full $650 +plus the 109 for the EK full cover, which is $759 excluding shipping.
