The differences between the LP and DK modes of the board.
1)6 v 4 SATA
2)Fancy cooling
3)Better Power regulation on UT.
4)HT freqency higher on UT?? Thought I read that.???
5)UT has better sound option. The sound on the DK is fair.
6)UT with two lan ports.
7)UT with 1394 port & Sil3142
8)Cost Newegg UT $242 vs $169.99. The DK model at motherboardpro is $149.99.
For me money was the decision. I wish my 9850 was here now but I screwed up cancelling an order and now I have to wait
Funny the 790 cooler runs hot as hell on the DK model, touch it and see. I have heard no thermal paste by someone. I tried to replace with another cooler(4 to be exact) but its way too small an area. I finally removed and reapplied paste(Rice Grain) and added (Foam Tape) a fan from one of the failed coolers and now the temp is 20c less and passes the touch test.

9850(JAAFB AA 0810BPAW), DFI 790FX M2RS(3/05 Bios), G.SKILL 2 x 2GB 1T-5-5-5-15, OCZ 600, MINI NINJA, WD SE16 AAKS 320, HIS3850, bluegears b-Enspirer, Vista 64
Ah you guys scared me for a second. Sounded like there was a major change.
I saw the M2RS on newegg... but decided to spend the extra money for the better sound AND better cooling. Better power regulation? Hadn't realized that... but I'll take it. Don't need the added SATA ports. (I use a RocketRaid 3120 to put 2 raptorx into a hardware Raid-0.)
If I can get away with using the ALC885 instead of the X-Fi I'll be happier because it works in FreeBSD and Linux. (But if it sux... then I'll end up using the X-Fi for gaming.)
Now I just want to find the VoIP daughercard for that soundcard. It would be fun to play with Skype using a regular telephone for awhile.

Its not a surprise that its a EOL product so soonits a awesome board but.....You cannot get the board to truly shine without a dedicated Raid Controller Card and AMD should never have implemented the SB600 controller on their new Platform Release! Outside of the SB600 the board ROCKS and I really love it but I also have a Areca Card too where most do not.

well i asked Oskar today to consider a new LP board as phenom gets better. Can stay analogue power but more phases and SB700.
I think there is a place now for a new monster board

i actually think of a second daily use rig (current one in sig) as i do alot of video encoding + gaming so i consider of going back to AMD for this one (personally i don't like overclocking on intel platforms and phenom seems to be a huge stepup for video encoding), so i have a question about this board:
Sapphie pure crossfirex
does it have the same BIOS as the dfi lanparty and if it doesnt have it, can i flash it with the dfi bios?
EDIT: i know that it'S abit offtopic, but does anybody know where to get a pc case with 2 atx trays? that would be really nice

tony any chance in running the F@H smp client to see what frame rate you get around 3.0ghz+ ?
Tony, i really appreciate your work. Thank you for sharing your impressions.![]()
Anyone got the hardware tool to reflash a dead Gigabyte DQ6and in the UK?
back up bios...what a waste...no boot, no play...back to DFI
Anyone got the hardware to help me, i can ship the board tomorrow?

I have the flasher for standard socketed bios but these new IC's are totally different.

Tony might want to see if you can get your hands on a preview board from Foxconn, their 790FX board will be paired with the SB700 southbridge.
Or if you don't mind one of the Abit, DFI 780G boards comes with the SB700 southbridge.

That has done it for me, a phenom will for sure be my next upgrade. I was debating the easily overclocked Q6600 vs waiting for the B3 for a long time...with these clocks and the above statement....that does it for me =)
I could care less about FPS if the game is all choppy for no reason I can tell....smoothness is what ranks highest on my "best platform for gaming" charts =)
Although, I do fold and was hoping for some decent folding numbers SMP from phenom @ 3ghz....I can only hope =)
Thanks again Tony =)
PS....just wanted to note...guys take a look at the 7 reviews left on newegg's site for 9850's ... seems those with these chips are hitting 3ghz on air EASILY at stock volts and higher with a bit of a challange. One guy apparnetly ran 3.5ghz in 3dmark06!!! .... if this trend keeps going and those posts are legit....DAMN GO AMD!!!!!

I would like to get a hold of a Foxconn 790FX or 780a board for team ATL.

Maybe it could help in your problem, you will need an similar board.
Brother Esau, when are you getting your piece of AMD 9850? I wanna see more of these overclocked to figure out what an avarege chip will do.

I picked up a 9850 for cold testing and to better educate myself on the bus and operational limitations. $400 with GA-MA790FX-DS5
The win at low Mhz is the onboard memory controller and very low latency achieved, a definite advantage for AMD.
My Kryotech has mounting for AM2 as well as adjustable in 1 degree ticks. Should be interesting if I can avoid the cold bug and hit max temp.
