Actually, I canceled the Q6700 order... and I will be getting a real Q9450 this weekend. Same setup, guys. This time, I'll officially see if it's chip-related... or if it's board-related. If I can get over 475 FSB with... this chip and this board (brand new) then I think it's time we switch boards.![]()

currently trying to stabilize this now but it has run a few benchmarks already, no stress tests yet. i'll post voltages when i get it fine tuned.
there may be a fsb hole 490-500 on this board...
Awwweeesome! What kind of voltages do you need for that?

Holy crap, nice results. I should be getting my hands on a q9450 soon, ordered mine back in november :P Never thought I'd be using this e2160 for that long, but it never let me down, allmost saddens me to let this lil fellow go ....
I'm curious how my x38 will hold up with such a beast of a cpu.

The IHS seems a bit different to what i have seen before, a slightly revised design.
Anyways just checking in before shutting down and pulling the rig apart....se y'all in a couple of days!

500 FSB is going to be the max for this chip. It doesn't respond well to FSB speeds too far away from it's native 1333. You will see that 3.8 is going to be the limit. ....on air at least. I couldn't get mine absolutely stabile at 3.8 but chips will vary. 3.6 was the best.

Actually, 4.0GHz (500MHz) is possible on air... assuming the board is "electronically" solid. If you can cool your NB with 1.75v of voltage running through it, you're good at 4.0GHz for a year at least.

I'd be curious to know how much vcore is being used for the 4.0GHz too.
I'd guess 1.36-1.38v... or at most 1.40v.![]()

I just setup my new system with a lot of help from RunawayPrisoner. Reached my 3DMark 06 goal of 16000.
Just got my 9450 today.
Will be putting it underwater later this afternoon.
I do have one question, I've just changed from a q6600, ambient (17°and stock cooling would idle at 30°, load at 65°. This q9450 at the same ambient will idle at ~40° in RealTemp and load at ~65°. This doesn't seem right. I've mounted it a few times to make sure it was a decent mount. Does anyone else have any idle + load stock temps?

Go to your browser, type in http://www.microcenter.com, and if you see a Q9450, just add it to your cart.
And by the way, I'll be putting my next rig underwater (literally?) and... I'll mod the NB for real this time to see if 4GHz 24/7 is a myth... or reality!
Nezzari: everything seems okay... aside from some temps. I'm guessing that the 9800GTX adds a lot of heat into the case? If so... please remove that dust filter in the rear fan. It'll help drastically. If that doesn't even help, switch the rear fan to exhaust, and switch the two front fans to intake.

CPU installed, i got 3.4GHz with default Vcore...but can someone check it's correct![]()
Gigabyte X38-DQ6 rev 1.0 with F9a beta bios, the default Vcore is set at 1.23750V....is that correct?
Look at my temps and what not, i haven't tested for stability as yet but i did a fresh install of Vista running at this speed.

What do you mean by "check if it's correct"? Taking EIST into account, the speed you've got showing in CPU-Z is correct for a 3.4GHz speed; not sure if this was your question though.
Default voltages will vary slightly, but that's about right.Gigabyte X38-DQ6 rev 1.0 with F9a beta bios, the default Vcore is set at 1.23750V....is that correct?
Never do that. Always install your OS at default clocks unless you're 100% certain that your OC is stable - and even then I'd still recommend dropping the clock back down. Borking an OS install is comparatively easy, and can be one of the most frustrating and difficult to isolate problems with any rig. Far better off to let it take an extra five minutes now then muck about with reinstalls later.Look at my temps and what not, i haven't tested for stability as yet but i did a fresh install of Vista running at this speed.
Also, your Core Three is looking odd in terms of temps. How's your mount?

Not sure about the core 3 temps, it might take awhile for the AS5 to spread out and the paste to do it's thing.

Do some stress tests with OCCT or Prime95 and see if that clock is stable at 1.12v. An OC should still be fairly stable if you can install Windows with it.
I mean... heck, I installed both Windows XP and Vista at 3.80GHz. :p
