    Arrow 9800GTX Review thread

First review up here (too bad for the E6300@3.2Ghz) :

    Rage 3D http://www.rage3d.com/previews/video.../index.php?p=1

    And pretty good conclusion :

    Evolution, Not Revolution

Those looking for a card that destroys the 8800 GTX need not apply. The 9800 GTX should not be looked as a successor to the 8800 GTX cards, but as a more economical replacement. Those with 8800 GTX systems won't likely be tempted to rush out to buy this card, but those in the market for a current DX 10 card should find the 9800 GTX a more sensible purchase than its aging cousin...

Don't you think it's an improvement the low prices?

For the past year I was wishing for a product like this:

Lower power consumption -> temps and sound
    Little performance improvements
    CHEAPER!

Just think of a 9800GTX as you would like
Power consumption greater than 8800gtx, more expensive BUT 50% more performance. No, I wouldn't buy it!

My budget for graphics limits me to those close to 250 euros

If the 9800GTX came out 9 months ago I'd agree with you.

What gets me is, why didn't NVidia maintain the 384bit memory interface, or increase it to 512? It's pretty clear that the G92 cards are bottlenecked by the 256 bit interface in high resolution and AA/AF configurations. Otherwise they'd actually have a pretty nice update to the G80's.

That's what I've been saying the last few weeks Karateo, the card reviews just confirm it's a solid OC'ed GTS 512 with better ram and PCB, that has a little more headroom for OC'ing...
But for round 300 euro's it's a steal if you don't want to mess with OC's ... and card runsindeed cooler and is less powerhungry... it's got some stiff competition from the ATI 3870X2 card... and if this card was launched 9 months ago it would have cost you 500-600 dollars...

Those that already own 8800 GT, GTS or GTX no need to step up regarding performance, new buyers should take a look at it for sure... but we will have more come in here to nag as that's the only way how I can describe some peeps reactions...

Newegg has the 9800GTX up for sale with all priced at $329 USD. Not bad considering it's the very first day on Newegg. I think the 9800GTX at the $299 mark while the 8800GTS is at $249 is a perfect price difference between the two.

Thats Rage3d review needs to go. That site is an unholy bunch of idiots. Their moderating team are worse than EOCF. Actually, I see now ChrisRay did it... It can stay...!!

Great thread though aside from that!

PCGH.de reviewed the just released Geforce 9800 GTX as the official NDA from Nvidia falls. We made a lot of benchmarks from synthetic one like 3DMark 06 to games like Crysis, Call of Duty 4 and UT3. We check 3way SLI as well.

As a summary, the 9800 GTX is a nice card. If you go higher in resolution and FSAA (like 1.680x1.050 and 8x FSAA upwards), the 9800 GTX has problems with the lower memory bandwith in comparison to 8800 GTX/Ultra.

The direct link to the benchmarks:

The artice itself (German) starts here:

Reviews that only shows average FPS are a bit misleading imo... in the sense that consumers may be lead to believe that the card with higher numbers will provide smoother gameplay, but in reality, it could output bad min fps, making games choppy.

Interesting, in the press material it was stated that the card was compatible with HybridPower but NOT Hybrid SLI but alot of sites are reporting that it is compatible WITH Hybrid SLI. :S

I'm looking forward to seeing tests to see if this is actually true.

nvidia decided to make the "gtx" moniker now represent affordability, while the gx2 suffix now represents the flagship.
Well, i think iv said this a few times, but this card is terrible, but compared to the absolute crap of all the other cards on the market( im looking at you, 3870x2), it actually is relatively decent for rehashed old tech.
