Should I Remove Fusion Block and Reseat on Asus Maximus Extreme

HI, Just removed the whole water/heatpipe set up from the Asus Maxumis Extreme MB, Because I want to reseal the north and crosslinx, plus the south and moset chips.

Everything came off great, just slow and steady.

First: The fusion block seems to be mounted nice, seems to be pretty level and not just glopped on plus it seems very solid mount, but I was wondering if I should try to rempove and reseat and re-add heating coumpoud, or just leave well enough with the fusion water block.

Second: Since I love the Artic Silver Ceremic, very much reccomend it. My whole goal was to reseal all the other chips with that Artic Silver Ceremic heat xfer stuff, but I just read about "Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound
    "
should i just stick with my prvove Artic Silver Ceremic or try this new stuff that has had good reviews.

PS, I used to use Artic Silver, then moved up to Artic Silver 5. but for the last year or so I have used the AS Ceramic and i cannot say enough about it and how well it has worked for me.

So to wrap it up, should i try to remove fusionwater block and reseat, gut says no, looks good

also should i change from my prven fav heat xfer stuff and go with the new stuff.

PS, my son is 9 and involved with this project, he says leav the block on, I might mess something up by trying to hard, plus his vote is the ceramic, he was laughing that I always have been touting the AS Ceramic and now I am building my best system yet and I might not use it. Forget it!

    Best Regards
    SystemVipers.

AS5 is good stuff, and I have had no issues with it, I woudl like to use MX-2 one fo these days but I haven't gotten around to getting any...

AS-ceramique is one of the top six or so TIM. I use it.
    Also use Shin-E, MX-2, STG-1.
Bottom line = good TIM is wanted but there's only a degree or two between any of the top few.
There's several good threads on cooling that board here.

    AS5, because the X38 has a heatspreader. I find 9yo's a very reliable source, being 13yo myself.

Hi, thanks for all the good advice,
My son and i have started calling ourselves SystemVipers, just so I can get him more involed in my work and to draw him closer to me, as a father and son team. We have the URL's and have one client so far, Plus we r building out our site with PIc's, FAQ's and a forum for him and his friends.
My main business is small business systems, computer hardware and some programming,
So this new team, (father/son) SystemVipers is pretty cool to me. I can teach him about business, we can build cool new rigs and then play lots of games. Plus just be together!
For now I got him in the hardware and programming area, but in any game, even If I play it before him, he kicks my butt.

(on a personal note) Not to get into religion but he is a gift from god and we r so lucky to be around him. As you can tell I love being a dad. We will also get a 69 firebird or earlier GTO when he gets closer to driving age and put it in the garage

Oh and as a bonus, now we can spend more $$$ on cutting edge components and systems and games because it's our business

So thanks I will just stick with the AS ceramic

And I think i will not try to remove the fusion water block and remount!

I will be posting pictures as soon as my cooling kit comes in. It will start with just the components on a table and me pulling off this water/heatpipe system.

I can't wait for the next gen video cards that will come out early this new year, I will be using one of them , which one nobody nows.....

Steve, I have the same board and let me tell you, the TIM under the NB/SB heatpipe is garbage. it is like cement. I highly recommend that you do remove the sink just to reapply the TIM, I also like Ceramique, it is one of my favorites! If you have goo-gone i recommend this to get the cement they use off of the sink and the NB and SB. Folks have reported a good 10C drop in temps just from putting a proper TIM on. If you use a hair dryer to get the NB and SB nice and warm, it will come off very easy, be careful not to force it off. Good luck! Here is mine with the stock NB/SB removed with the MCW60...

BAM, I am gonna find out what this "goo-gone " is and get some. So it l;ooks like O will try to remove with a hair dryer.

Now the next question is I see your not using the stock fusion block, but a swiftec 30, or something. Should I stick with the fusion block or run a Swiftec block?

I just purchase the super talent 1600 2G for the system, it's the most expensive part for this build, LOL

Also is ther w way to monitor water tempature without buying an insert that has the voltage cables comming out, I am getting a 4 temp readout do-dad for the 5.25 front mount, I was hoping of findind a way to monitor the water, using that?

PS that Ceramique is the BOMB, I figure since i'm there i might was well GO all the way.

Man, I have a 2-year-old that "helps" with my modding. He uses his Oscar the Grouch hammer and Elmo tape measure on my lian li. So fun. You are right about them being a gift and blessing!

    Have fun with your son!

Can I use this product to remove the thermal paste from the heatsinks and the chips?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100010

Do I have to do something to the Mosfets heatsinks??

I see that these heatsinks have the thermal compound and a pad with squared shape. Is it neccesary to remove that pad too?

Is this the famous goo gone? http://www.magicamerican.com/images/...es/GG3_big.gif

Woah STOP! Hair dryers can generate A LOT OF STATIC. Nice way to zap your board.

Be very cafeful you dont go too close to it.

FREEZER for the board. it will pop that HS right off after about 10 minutes. or if you have Circut Freeze you can use that and a quick 5 second spray will remove that all.

I used a hair dryer to remove the Fusion block and nothing bad happened.

I removed all the thermal pastel and re applied it using Arctic Cooling MX-2 but nothing good happened. I mean, I didn't get any temps drop. My system is still registering the same temperatures before and after.

I guess is mandatory to buy watercooling for this board if you want to keep it with normal temperatures.
