I think the only boards which BIOS's can be swapped are the DS3P and the DS4.

Simply because, other than the cooling, they're the exact same board.

Hi. im new the the forum. i searched this thread for "flex memory", intel flex, 3x1 gb in dual and a couple other differenent phrases. didnt really find an answer. I just wanted to know if Intel Flex memory works for this board. I also searched the general mem section with no luck.

i currently have 2x1 sticks of g skill 1066 ram. i want to add another 1 gb stick, but don't want to lose the 2gb in dual. if i add a 3rd stick on the 2nd channel will flex memory work, 2gb in dual, 1 in single channel??

oh, my second question is about 1:1 mem ration stuff. I hear that ram runs better when matched up with the fsb speed. on the q6600, right now im running the ram at 1066, but wouldn't mind running it at 533 to get a 1:1 fsb:dram ratio if there isnt a big performance hit. i also like the idea of setting vdimm to 1.8 to save on power and heat.

noticed that the bios doesn't have a memory divider, only a multiplier. is this the same thing??

has any one found this to be better???

I don't know about the DS3L, but 3x1gb certainly works in Flex in my P35-DS3P. I've been running 3x1gb for a good few months.

Yeah the memory multiplier is the same as the divider. It's called a multiplier because you can only run the memory at 1:1 or faster.

And I've found that running memory faster than 1:1 with my Q6600 gives slightly better results than 1:1. Tho whether it's worth the extra voltage is debatable, tho there's not much point in buying PC8500 if you only intend to run it at PC530 speeds.

thank you Cob for the quick answers. ill look for another stick of mem and stay at 800 with tighter timings for now. the mem wizard on cpuid's pc wizard says mem float/int efficiency is at 75%plus at 800 and only about 53% at 1066. id rather keep the tight timings and lower wattage and higher eff. thanks again.

has anyone figured out a working pencil vdroop mod for the ds3r??? I'm trying to set 1.38v in bios, but in windows the idle voltage is 1.32v and full load voltage droops to 1.26v.... HORRIBLE!!!

There's one pencil mod for this mobo but it's not very good.

I set 1.425v at the bios and get 1.390 idle and 1.360 at full load

after the pencil mod it's 1.390 idle and 1.375 full load

is the northbridge & southbridge chip temp reported on untilities like speedfan and hw monitor (the one from cpuid website). i think i see them but im not sure. its around 35-38c. is that ok for those chips. i was gonna try to add tuniq tx2 to the northbridge chip, buts those darn pushpins wouldnt pop out for me. basically, if i only do mild OCing..(q6600 to 333x9) will i need to change the TIM compound?

also, which setup would be less stressful on the cpu. 333x9 or 400x7 or 8? which one is gonna require more voltage in general.

Been having an issue with the DS3R board. When coming out of standby i lose my usb wireless and need to take it out and put it back in. The other issue is my usb ports turn off. Keyboard, mouse, and wireless all turn off. Put them back in and nothing. need to do a reboot to get them to work again.

So a couple of things. I am not sure if it is widely know since I haven't read about it before but you do have bios setting profiles that you can save on the P35-DS3R. Hit F11 to bring up the list and enter the new title then hit enter to save. F12 will bring it back up to load a profile. Anyway, like I said, I hadn't read about it before.

On a different note, my system has become P95 unstable no matter how much voltage I send to it. I am still investigating it and the one thing I have not checked is my ram, so that could be causing it. Anyone have any thoughts? My temps don't go over 65c, so I don't think it is a temp issue. Anyway, still investigating it.

    Ok,
I believe it is the ram. Took the ram out of the equation by setting it to defaults and running P95 without ram testing and it ran for 6 hours before I stopped it. I restarted it with ram testing, still at default settings, and it locked up immediately. I need to run memtest to be sure, but I am pretty sure its the ram. Guess Mushkin isn't as great as I thought, oh well.

Hey all! I have a really strange issue.. With my P35-DS3P rev2 and my E8200 I can go up to 8x575 (4600) good for benching. The thing is that I do it with default MCH/FSB voltages. I can't get anything above 4600 stable at least for super pi though..... no matter the fsb/mch voltages... and if I rise the voltages even a bit I can't even run super pi on 4600mhz either... something is not right.... Haven't encountered a problem like this before, any ideas? I'm going to try this F10 bios now, let's hope it will fix this "issue" so I can continue overclocking this beastie
P.S. My northbridge is watercooled so we can eliminate the heat as a cause..

Have the same issue on my DS4, when FSB volt is anything else than Normal, i get errors in orthos blend from ~460fsb and up, when normal is selected 535fsb is fine.

I have measured with a multimeter on the board, and the Normal volt is 1,1volt

According to this thread this mod does work. It is different than the one that VR-Zone did. I am going to try it tomorrow and I will try to post my results then.

Hmm.. I'm seeing a similar trend. But I can add +0.75v MCH and +0.5v FSB without losing stability, any more and I get errors in P95/SPi 32M.

Which BIOS are you using BTW and which is best one you've used? Any better than F8?

BTW don't run Orthos anymore, it has major bugs which give you such errors even if stable.

My ds3p rolles the pci-e back to 1x a lot of the time. Buggy bios I'm told, does it on f9 and f10.
