Walk in there not really expecting any great deals after reading some of the stories in the thread, but I was really interested in the case. IMO even @ 119.00 still pretty nice for a full tower Lian Li. I ask the "Computer Specialist" guy where the cases are and he points me to ilse and say "we have 3 different models" but I don't see the Rocketfish (is a pretty lame name, but what the hell). I did however see a 47.95 price holder on the shelf. So I asked him did they carry a case called Rocketfish, and he asys "yeah, but there not on display". Now I smell some blood in the water and reply "that's because they’re on close out, right". He's says yes and proceeds to look up the price on the internet. Sure enough it has the 119.00 price, but I'm like "what a bummer it should be the closeout price". He says "let me check the in store clearance price" and sure enough it's @ 47.99, and they have three in stock in the back. "I'll take two" I say, and proceed to follow him around with my cart so I could load them up. When I see him taking the 2 down, and there's another one left, "I'll take that one too".

3 cases for 150.00, just incredible. Cases are really nice and I needed some cases for my folding farm. I was going to rig the boards up on wood or some such thing to get them on line, but was hesitant because I didn't like the idea. They're so deep it will be easy to drill the top for a 120.3 type rad with plenty room to spare. They'll be perfect. I may even swap out one for my everyday rig and really trick one out they're so nice.

This has to be the best deal I've come accross since I've been in this hobby. Thanks to the OP for the post. Might be the first time I read a post on XS and it saved me a few 100.00 instead of costing me

I'm very commited to the WCG team here on XS, so all three cases already have a home, and are spoken for.

    Thanks again,

    andyc
hehehe... welcome to threes club lol...

first case - office file/video/payroll server
second case - home office computer for my work away from the office (this case is overboard for this build rofl but what the hell @ $43.12 its a good deal)
third case - not sure yet but I am leaning towards either selling it on ebay or putting a phase change in it

well i'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. maybe some fatmat and a thick coat of paint will keep the rattle down :/

weight does not make a case good. This case pees all over any Antec.

Having owned & used both cases, I have to heartily disagree.

This case is larger, roomier, sturdier, lighter, and more scratch resistant.

P180 is very prone to scratches, its wayy too much plastic for my taste.

I agree. Although My Antec is a bit more hearty, I think this case takes the crown. Much roomier, no plastic and better layout. I think with a few selective mods (which I am in the proces of) the Antec can not even compare.

My side panel seems to rattle because it doesn't line up right, I don't think. Harddrive vibration doesn't seem to be dampened too well, but for $50, I'm not going to complain. I'll find some rubber or something to dampen it.

Well, I guess I should mention that I have yet to power my system up in the case. idk if it will rattle or what, but I aree that adding a few dampers here and there wouldnt; be much of a problem.

I wasnt basing the construction quality on the weight alone. i dont know, maybe i just got a bad case. the panels on the rocketfish are wearing at the seams, which looks like crap IMO

i understand the p180 has tons of plastic, but that's what makes it a great case. plastic is a better damping material than metal. also, the interior of the p180 seems very rigid. not to mention the precuts to hide the psu cables really come in handy. there isnt any room to do the same in the rocketfish. i guess i like the ideas and thought that went behind the 180, whereas the rocketfish was slapped together(not implying the construction was comprimised).

all that aside, yes it is a great case for 50 bucks. though I personally wouldnt pay much more than that

ps: would one know if i can have it exchanged at any bestbuy? the one my friend bought it at doesnt have any more cases

Hard drive suspension works well in this case (no pun intended). I have my Samsung 500gigger suspended in the bottom 5.25" bay, can only hear it when it seeks.

Oh, and be sure to remove all fan grilles. And rubber-mount your low-speed fans. And buy Dynamat/roofer's tape equivalents with which to coat the inside of the door and other surfaces of the case. And a Seasonic-built PSU (HX520, VX450, HX620, etc.) for even more silence. *deep breath

Not the quietest case in the world, but with some work, it's manageable.

Haha, I actually have done all listed above and it is quite silent.

First thing I did was strip the grills and drill out the mounting holes to mount the fans with the included hard drive grommets (quite useful since I won't be mounting more than a few hard drives).

I also have a VX450, previously a 520HX, and they both are amongst the most silent PSU's I've owned. Very cool running as well.

I'm thinking I'm going to need to silence my optical drive though somehow.

If you are looking at getting a Windowed door for this case. Look at the part number W-75B. This door fits perfect. I got my info from Lian Li themselves. I just installed the door on my Rocketfish, and it looks great. Performance-PCS has the door, but watch out for high shipping prices. Here is a pic to show you guys.

Boy that info was old. As am I. Currently my kids have taken over my desktops. They are both sporting matching GTX1080's. Last Christmas I got everyone Oculuses and thus GTX1080's. My eldest is some sort of CSGO champion gold label something or other. Me I work and shoot real guns. Build Comps as needed.

Often the most challenging and unavoidable noise producers in a case, especially in a giant aluminum one like the Rocketfish. I'm thinking the best way is to surround the drive with high density stuff; vinyl floor tiles, carpet squares, anything to help absorb noise output.

Oh, and Nero DriveTool can reduce DVD/CD read speeds, less noise.

Nice find. Although it'd cost more than I paid for the case, so I'll probably just not bother.

I wish that window didn't go down so far... I don't want it to show the power supply or harddrive racks. Trying to hide those...

    Here is a thought...

Tape off the part that you do want to show and then paint the rest (bottom part) black from the inside.

You'll end up with just what you're looking for and with it painted from the inside, your not likely to get any scratches on the paint.

You could find all sorts of alternative solutions that would accomplish the same thing.

At the top of the case, with the vertical grate in the back above the IO ports... what's the story on size there? I've got the case sitting on my desk here at school with the side panel off, and judging by eye, a 120mm fan won't fit there. 2x 92mm maybe? Could help get stale air out the top.

EDIT: 2x80mm would fit there nice with a little cutting. If you look at the top of the case, there are some rail type things that hang down that would need to be trimmed in the back, but 2x80mm would definately fit.

but I figure, when the hell else am I gonna come across a case this quality, this price, with $5.99 shipping to alaska?

$5.99 shipping to Juneau? WTF? How much did you pay and from whom? I just picked one up @ BB in Anchorage for $71.99. They wouldn't budge on the price and BB sure charges more than that to ship a case to me.
