I'm on the site now reading up.

Since I b0rked a flash the first time round, I have a spare BIOS chip so I'm good to go when modding BIOS without fear.

    Hey, do the bios!

But I think you can't change strap faster than it is.

I would still love to run my memories 1:1 and use lower strap to get best performance.

If I recall right, Memset 3.4 crashes when performance level is set lower.

Yup. That's my reason for wanting to do it too.

OK I managed to unhide and enable the NBStrap option in the BIOS, but sadly it doesn't allow independent MCH straps.

e.g. I set 1:1 memory and the 800 strap, but it boots as if I had selected a 1:1.66 memory divider. MemSet confirms the memory as 333Mhz and the "Performance Level" (actually tRD) as 3.

Still, I learned a little about how to unhide and enable BIOS options.

So you got it to flash right? So if memory runs 333 Mhz and your FSB is 333 Mhz

then it is 1:1 and lowest strap enabled !!

Try something like 450Mhz 1:1 and see what the performance level is when you set strap to 1066 ??

    Rebelshavensforum is down...

Something like 8x486 1:1 with 1333 strap (1.25) would be nice

    Yes it flashed.

Yes I had the option there.

BUT the FSB was 200 and the mem was 1:1. So it doesn't work. The Strap is 'hardwired' to the memory divider.

So this board needs super memory that can take 1200 Mhz or even 1400 Mhz
    to get its full performance
    sad and bad engineering

I'm not sure there are many P35 boards that allow tRD to be changed in the BIOS. I know some of the DFI boards do, but they are more expensive. (At least more than the IP35-E that I have).

Using the cheapest memory I can get in the UK (just about) - some OCZ 6400 - I am able to run the 1:1.5 divider to get a tRD of 5 @ 340 Mhz FSB, which is already pretty good. Of course if you have a CPU with a low multiplier, you're a bit more screwed...

I've found BIOS 16 beta 1 to be the most stable, and best for overclocking. It took my E8400 over 4.5GHz, and also doesn't have the annoying double-boot that is found in the BIOS 16 final version.

Would someone care to share their 24/7 bios settings? I have this board and an 8400 on the way. I might fiddle a little and see what the 8400 is capable of but my primary concern is to get this new build set up as fast as possible with maximum stability. It's been a while a while since my last build so I have little idea what most of the settings available on these intel chipsets do. Thanks.

    Hi

As I ask in this thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?t=182197), is this MB capable of +500 fsb normally? (not hand-picked o very few ones). Im going to purchase a mobo and use with a good e6300 so I want good FSB. The memory Id use is normal one too (ddr800-ddr1000). Is this board better than a Gigabyte DS3R?

    Regards!

The lowest you can run memory on this board is 1:1
So you need mem that can do atleast 1000 , preferably 1200 Mhz, but then your TRD will suffer a bit if you can't put mems to 1.2 or 1.25

I guess that this board would do 500 Mhz, not much over it, and your CPU must not have that FSB wall, I still don't understand what that means.

But I have been having troubles getting my CPU to run @ 6x500 Mhz or 7x500 Mhz, 501 Mhz seems impossible, any advice on this?

PS. Does ICH voltage help with higher FSB ?!

Thats what people here at xs call a wall.

Sorry to change the subject, but I was going to get this board to go with an e2160, 8800gs and 2gb Corsair memory. From looking at this thread, it seems like that would be a good setup. Any suggestions? Any issues with this board I should know about?

All in all it seems like a killer budget board.

Also, does this board support RAID? Some newegg review says it doesn't, but I don't see how this could be true.

No RAID on the IP35-E, but there is ICH9R RAID on the IP35.

I've read of a few people achieving 500FSB on this board with E8400 CPUs ... not sure where people are reading it's not up to the task.

But yes, some are certainly better than others. Mine's having trouble breaking 420 FSB on my E6750 ...

can anybody confirm is that measuring point correct and the resistor value really controls VPLL?

And how can you have 2.4 VPLL ? doesn't that burn the chip??

Default voltage from that reading point is 1.53V and after penciling the highest I got was 1.84V, didn't help much, 1.7V now.

Still can't get to 500 FSB with my Q6600. Got 452 MHz FSB before mod, after mod 460 MHz FSB, so I don't know if that even has any effect as the stability is so low.
