CMSS-3D headphone is no trivial matter, it makes world of difference in games like CS:S where hearing where one footstep came from can be the difference between life and death.
I thought their only PCI-e card was a X-FI Audio, which isn't an X-Fi at all but an old Audigy...

lol - overkill has nothing to do with it - its about getting rid of a crummy bus/way of connecting peripherals & expansion cards etc - every time i look up expansion cards etc for my PC, i have to be wary of the PCI bus max & the fact that *all* slots *share* that one dam bus

things might have changed by now though, but either way I'm not ditching my X-FI. Hopefully someone will make a LGA1336 board with a pci slot.

    cheers! - good read - nice'n'short too

thats so dumb! - now is it the actual 'audio processor' that has trouble or the PCI transport part.. the article suggests its not so much the audio processor.. at least thats how I interpreted as

I bet Creative is too lazy &/or dumb to come up with a solution.. I bet if u gave the problem to a company with a bit more know how - *bam* solved (i wish )

Whoa, hold up. So now, for the luxury of using a (low profile) PCI device, you'd have to add 49 euro, per card, to your $400 motherboard? Is it just me, or does that just seem idiotic.

No, its small packets are very random will do better in Parallel than in Serialized data streams. They need something like Jumbo packets or more data since the Card Does the processing, not the CPU. Software Audio processing cards doesn't have the same problem. Cards like the Asus Xonar and X-Fi Xtreme Audio are merely Audio conduits. They mostly receive smaller amounts of already processed by the CPU data or something that's bypassed. That's the way one sound guy explained it to me and until I see or hear something better, that's what I'm going with.

Paying the $400 is idiotic to some for sure

Its an ES Board, they are developping those Boards to try their new technologies. They dont care about design until the system is running properly with good performance

It works just fine with ICH10 as well. ICH 11 won't pop up till Westmere from what I understand.

As far as I can imagine ICH10 is the last. And yes, it will ship with ICH10 and not 9 as the homemade picture shows.

The future looks for the new type of southbridge only. (Ibexpeak)

MP and DP platforms will continue to need an interconnect hub and PCIe controller off die, as that adds too much unnecessary complexity to integrate them in these type of systems. So the ICH will be sticking around for those market segments for a bit.
