Are they actually higher binned, or not? Because I know some people who would swear by the Xeon chips being higher binned (and thus OC better), while others swear that they're binned exactly the same as their desktop counterparts.

From what I understand, it's not really "higher" binned, but more "differently" binned. The parameters that are checked are weighted a bit differently and I believe a few of the on die fuses are set slightly differently to change a bit of the pre-fetching behavior and other assorted priorities for how it functions in certain situations.
It's still pretty much a toss up as to which clocks better with the limited data set we have most of the time.
Edit: ooooooo! and way to go team on whomping easy news again!

Nice job guys, how many days does that make now?
On an OT note, Blauhung, regarding the Bloomfield board board that appeared today. How many channels would be used if only two sticks were installed into 2 same color slots? How about all 4 slots? I hope you can answer but totally understand if you can't.
Wes, or anyone else. Have you used Lagoom? Are they good to do business with?
If so, I found the X3350 OEM version without cooler for $334 here....
Credit card is ready......![]()

Thx for the heads up,

I left the optimized files on three 3GHz P4 HTs. Ban me.
Bob,
I have not, but there is a thread were others have ordered and items shipped within a day. Can't remember if it was here or at [H].
I'm still debating on ordering one. Trying to decide if I want to hold out on Skulltrail or get a server 5400 board for the 5420's I plan on ordering here shortly.
I doubt the $150 price difference (between selling a used q6600 and new x3350) is going to give me/us that many more points over a q6600.
EDIT: Awesome day guys!

First off, only guessing....
but I see no reason why only putting 2 sticks in wouldn't have it run just fine in dual channel mode, but then your just wasting all that yummy possible bandwidth.
Fill all 4 and then you have channel 0 with one stick that won't be interleaved with anything all by it's lonesome. This will be a similar situation to using a normal board today with 3 slots populated. As I haven't ever played with this, I don't know how the performance goes, but I expect that this would only hurt you on read or writes done on addresses that are physically located in that un-interleaved space.

And yes, back OT, awesome day. I look forward to when out lead in the dailies is clinched. Soon I think.....![]()
Wes, Thx. I'm ultimately adding these as new machines. I'm not about to shed any Q6600s yet....![]()
I intend to get one just to test out what board to use it on. I've got an IP35 pro cranked up to 460 FSB (6x multi on it's Q6600) as a test to make sure I can handle the 8x multi the X3350 has. I think it will be the first test bed. The part will end up in a new machine.
Regards,
Bob
I'm glad so many of you are adding more quads ! I have to admit, I was drunk when I posted that I'd add another if you guys did. And now I just bought a pair of external (for now) 1TB Hitachi drives from Best Buy on closeout for $213 each. So no budget for another quad now that my fileserver is finally getting hardware ! All talk, no action...![]()
