Unfortunately, disabling Static Read and Dynamic write Control doesn't change the situation. Prime95 still shows errors.
Why don't you check first if you underclock the the memory it also crashes. It might be very well possible that your CPU cannot reach the 450FSB you are trying to accomplish. Possible you need to raise CPU related settings in order to reach 450FSB; just underclocking the CPU alone will not be enough if the voltages necessary to get to 450FSB aren't set.

OK, like a few others around here, I've pretty much had it with this mobo. No matter what I do, I experience random freezes and lockups... I'm a flight simulator enthusiast and frequently FSX will just freeze and stop responding. I have to shut it down via the task manager. It can happen after 5 seconds or 5 minutes - ie completely random.

But get this: system just BSODS and freezes even when doing nothing... well just browsing the web or some other simple task in windows it will just stop responding and then few secs later and BAM! another BSOD and reboot...

I get this at FSB450 AND at stock settings too (FSB267) go figure... both Vista as well as XP SP2. I have almost given up the fight, have to admit defeat and move on, or I would waste more time trying to tweak this beast... might as well go

So much for the promise of DDR3 and everything else this mobo offers... I'm wishing back to the days of P965 and P35... never had any stability issues like this on these. Now I regret splurging away on the 1000 euro EK chipset waterblocks... oh well, polar bear out /rant

I forget, whats more important, FSB, RAM or CPU clock speed? I may tinker with mine.

Polar Bear, you're going to have a hard time finding a board that runs stable at 450FSB operation -- especially with a quad! -- using only default settings. You're either going to have to get in there and do some tweaking or scale back your expectations.

450FSB is NOT using default settings. However, board seems to be generally unstable at stock/default settings too ie FSB267 for my Q6600.

Believe me, I have spent my fair share of time/effort tweaking this beast. Not ready to give up just yet though.

nicely spotted simri i have updated to this bios 1004 and all ok , i can't see any visible difference really but when i tried to load my save oclock profile in bios from previous bios it wouldn't boot up , but whem i manually put in the same settings all went ok so maybe they have changed some internal timings on northbridge maybe to make it more high fsb friendly

I've spent a great deal of time pushing my maximus to over 2100 mhz on the ram, and pushing a 600 FSB.
after about 10 minutes with this 1004 bios I can already say a few things.

its less stable then 0905 for high ram overclocks, but the options are better.
it wants to default to PL8 nearly everytime, so overclocks tend to be easier to fail on 1004 then 0905.

theres a new TRFC range down to 110, which wasnt there in 0905.
I never botherd with 1001, cause I kept hearing it was bad, so I just stuck with what I knew was good.

overall, I cant really say 1004 feels like a better bios yet.
its slightly more touchy then I was expecting, so you gotta tweak the bios alittle more, as the defaults for this bios seem to be alittle tighter then before.

It's safe to use 1004 even when it says Latest Beta Bios?

Allright dunno whats up with my board then. Tried exactly your settings and failed everest stress test after about 5 minutes. Same story as before. I'm at a loss here...

Also, tried to EZ flash the bios from 1001 to 1004 today and strange thing happened: with usb key and just few seconds after i enter ez flash, system freezes and text changes colour to brown ?!! WTF! i must have a seriously flawed board...

I had the same thing, the system froze and the text color changed to brown when I used 1001 and tried to enter EZ flash. I had to reset the board to default settings, then I downgraded to 0904 and everything worked much better.

Copy BIOS file/files to USB Flash (FAT/FAT32) and rename XXXXXXXX.ROM to MEXXXX.rom
Restart and just push Alt & F2

AFUDOS always says "File Not Found"

What I'm trying to do is to boot my PC with a Windows 98 SE CD and then try to execute AFUDOS from a flash memory.

I use my Memtest-Disk just copied afudos.exe on disk.
    My Bios-files are on a USB-Stick ...
After Dos-start my USB-Stick is labled as "C:"
so first select the correct drive and afterwards for example:
    "afudos /iME0905.rom"
