so basically DFI could get away with selling X38 boards as X48 (ddr2 version)? + a $50 markup?

It's too early to call on that one. The Lanparty LT X38 is probably one of the best boards you can get at the moment.

All sold out? It's not even available yet. I just checked the site and they are accepting pre-orders only and it will be available 3/17. No worries. Wait a few months. 300 bucks is WAY too much for a motherboard anyway.

I used The Stilt's mod to flash the Rampage Formula onto my P5E and I have all the functionality of a X48 chip, which pretty much is the manually selectable Performance Level. X38 seems to have all the abilities of the X48 (not surprising, they are the same chip), the higher binning will have to be seen once retail hits.

If the layout's are the same (pwm, caps, slots, etc) they are probably cross-flashable. The X48-T2R is the one to have now and I'm sure DFI will push the bios options as they always do. Hopefully for X38 users, they could get some of dat

I wasn't even aware DFI was producing an X48-T2R until I saw this thread...needless to say my wish list has changed.

Cool, I'm going to order an LT and if I get my own Thermalright cooling for it, it'll be pretty much identical then?

If that is the case then I'm a little peeved. Every picture I've seen of the LT has shown Thermalright cooling on it.

Look at the link from MBPro. It shows a picture of the board and it most definitely has TR cooling on it. There was another one and I will look for it.

Compare that picture to the LT X38. Same cooling. The NB heatsink shown in the picture of the LT X48 is not part of the Thermalright cooling system on the UT X48 board. The Thermalright heatpipe cooling system is on the UT board only.

The cooler shown being installed on the NB in the picture is optional and does not come with the UT X48

I'll be passing on this board. Even though the cost is still high it's time to move on to DDR3.
